Are E-Wings a thing?

By Netace, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've run across a bunch of lists that want to run just a couple of fat ships lately. Ghost with Rendar, Double K-Wing missileers, and so one. Are E-wings respectable for this appraoach? For example:

Corran Horn 35 (50)
- Fire-Control System 2
- Push the Limit 3
- R2 Astromech 2
- Engine Upgrade 4
- Proton torpedoes 4

Ethan A'Baht 32 (49)
- R2-D2 4
- Shield Upgrade 4
- Predator 3
- Proton Torpedoes 4
- Fire-Control System 2

Awesome, Acceptable, or Awful?

Corran Horn has been the only really represented E-Wing for a long time. Corran and Dash was a very popular list.

I fly Corran and Ethan as a squad - but only to handicap myself when playing against children.

Still a favorite of mine! With the newer cards, I've rather enjoyed combining Corran with BB-8, PTL, Sensor Jammer and Stealth Device to make him INCREDIBLY hard to hit with a great action economy.

Corran is good but eating a boat sucks, you simply can't get enough ships into standard to get good use from his ability.

And generics have been a joke since they came out

Coran, Biggs and Wes a good and potent anti-Dengaroo list.

Ethan sees play in epic from time to time, I have never seen the generics played to any effect.

Oh he's good in epic it's just 100 where he is wasted.

I've never seen a generic E-Wing on the table :(

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Corran requires at least FCS, R2D2, and Adaptability (though you can also use VI or PTL, but those take more points). The reason that R2D2 is required is that you're putting so many points into a ship - he's got to be able to hold his own, and he does that via regen.

These days, I wonder if Hull Upgrade might actually make Corran viable again. With so many 2 hull high agility ships out there, and the BMST and Wampa being a common sight, the 2 hull is a liability. A 3rd hull would make BMST no longer a threat, and Wampa a threat that you can handle.

I wonder how Corran would run as just a 37 point ship w/ FCS...

I know someone that runs just Corran and Etahn and can still do quite well in a tournament setting (it is Etahn, people, not Ethan as much as you may want it to be). Personally, I don't think just the two of them are enough for me and I'll either pair Corran with a large ship or Etahn with a swarm. Etahn was my focal point for an escalation tournament in which I placed second though.

You're right I need to go out and buy alot of gas and dynamite!

This feels like the beginnings of a good list, but it could probably do with tweaking... And maybe a 3rd ship.

First change I would make is to switch r2d2 onto corran - protect your points investment, plus with ptl he'll be doing mostly greens anyway.

Second Change I would make is to cut the torpedoes and the shield upgrade.

Then you can either get a bandit sq z-95 as a blocker & upgrade etahn to have an r7 astromech, or you can shave a couple more points and get a prototype pilot a-wing to use as a blocker.

Two ship lists can work, but etahn just isn't good enough to use as the second ship, corran is fine.

if E-Wing generics had an EPT... and a 1 PS boost (minimum) then maybe they will be viable.

WAMMMMMPAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

This is why we sooooooooooooo need Rebel Veterans.

You know I feel the same. I think the "meta" is not as rigid, nor ships and builds common wisdom are "garbage" as bad as we think. I say tweak and play test something like this.

For Ethan, RP-59.

So here's my thought:

http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/564155/e-wing-twins

Ethan
  • R5-P9 (3)
  • Proton Torpedoes (4)
  • Expert Handling (2)
  • Fire-Control System (2)
  • Engine Upgrade (4)

Corran

  • R2-D2 (4)
  • Proton Torpedoes (4)
  • Fire-Control System (2)
  • Expert Handling (2)
  • Engine Upgrade (4)

Expert Handling is soooooooooooooooooooooooo under appreciated. I use on my Defenders and it's the bomb. 98 points, gives you 2pt initiative bid.

EU and EH are amazing together. Try it.

I appreciate the extra consideration you have given this spitball idea. Gonna pull this out next time I get a shot.
