Droideka idea input

By Quantum7, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

In The Clone Wars, as in The Phantom Menace, the shields would stop blaster bolts and lightsabers equally. I assume slugthrowers also since fast-moving objects get deflected. I presume a slow-moving Jedi could stealth up behind a droideka and slowly pass through the shield before activating his lightsaber and stabbing the droid, but that seems pretty freaking gutsy.

I dunno... in the Clone Wars show, Ray Shields are nasty stuff. I'm thinking the episode "the box", where one unique alien could pass through a ray shield without harm.

Others could pass through, sure, but it sure wasnt harmless.

Good point. Maybe it doesn't even hurt you right away but you find out later you have some terminal disease from it.

(Great way for the GM to spend 2 Despairs on your Stealth roll when you're doing this...)

Well, FFG gave them just a soak of 8 and a personal shield generator which gives them defense 2 and can be activated as a maneuver. While their shield is active they can not move.

Not that I would agree with those values, it is kind of silly to one-shot them despite their active shield, but the whole armor/shield/soak/denfensive&reflective mechanics is well … open for review.

From a narrative perspective this is not a big issue, a one-shot represents still several shots which can overcome the shields and represents one good hit before the shields recharge, but their high soak value which is independent from the shield feels odd in that case.

I am really not sure why brawn gives you most of soak instead of armor. As well those difficulity upgrades are reserverd for talents instead of armor, I don't really like it, even when I somewhat get it as this makes the talents for more important than basic armor, while high level armor still can totally change the game.

The bulkier you are, the more armor you can carry.

If you drop your gun, make a Difficulty 3 Coordination check to pick it back up. Upgrade once for every point of encumbrance above 4. If you roll a Despair you fall over, make another Coordination check to get back up (with the same Difficulty and upgrade conditions).

Or I just -Formidable- athletcs to throw the -planet- away long enough to right myself.

If i remember Phantom Menace, the Droideka shields were only in front of them, so if you sneak behind they are helpless to stop the lightsabers.

They look like bubbles to me:

In the clone wars, the shields were designed to stop faster moving objects, Saw garerra's sister stuck her arm through the shield to drop an ion grenade to disable one. Season 5, onderon story arc.

That's what I was originally referencing in my first post. That, and when they were trying to learn how to properly roll grenades into the shield.

The speed difference in speed between those that bounced off and those that didnt was tiny, and the speed at which most saber blades are swung would be too fast, assuming they don't cut through shields (and given that Obiwan and quigon didn't I would assume not)

So, found a better option than Improved Parry. SoR p108, Stun Cloak- melee or brawling attckers take 7 strain damage.
