What about a single-epic-point factionless ship?

By StarWarsDad1138, in X-Wing

An idea I had when reading about speculation in regard to scum fixes.

A factionless epic ship costing 1 epic point. Something nice and generic, probably a container ship or transport of some kind, possibly with a retrofit upgrade allowing either a hardpoint (and likely costing a slot or two for it) or a turret.

It would have to be right between the ghost and rebel transport in size.

Im thinking it would have to be almost strictly a control piece. Possibly even with a special rule that it can't run over ships.

Thoughts?

What ships might fit the bill?

What types of rules might be necessary?

Actions?

Upgrades?

Alternatively, if it wasn't factionless, what ships might fit the bill?

We kinda have two... kinda.

Lol. Yes. Kind of.

Lol. Yes. Kind of.

Particularly that crazy new REN-BAT coming in...

Other upgrade options include:

-Docking clamps for 2 ships (with a point ceiling of some sort)

-ability to ram

Alternatively, it could be a large ship, and certain upgrades like the ones above MAKE it cost 1 epic point. Just thinking.

Don't the Imperials have some sort of Customs vessel that would fit?

What I think would've been awesome is making palp only one crew slot, but cost an epic point. Oh well

I do think adding large based ships that were 1 epic point would be the right way to do it.

Probably about the right size, but more heavily armed than I was thinking.

Honestly, the Gozanti is about what you want size-wise (Remember that the other huge ships are scaled down significantly to keep them practical to use- The Gr-75 is actually about one and a half times the Gozanti's size). Finding a ship in between its size and the Ghost/Upsilon is probably going to require scraping the bottom of the barrel, frankly. If FFG were to introduce such a ship, I think they'd be better off going the route they did with the Raider, and create a new ship for the game.

True enough, i am just theorycrafting after all. So throw out finding the 'right' canon ship then. What would a 1-epic-point ship look like? Play like?

I suppose its my OCD talking (or something), but it just feels like there should be something to fill that point when you bring a Gozanti or GR-75 to an epic match.

I think i have suggested this here before, if not, well somewhere i have suggested this.... The IPV-1 System patrol craft... could come with a turret or hardpoint or different titles for the different factions

I imagine a new ship that looks something like this:

(No, I'm not trying to remind us of the Phantom Menace)

3 pilots:

Rebel explorer (rebels), imperial navigator (imperial), Freelance smuggler (scum)

Ps1, 3 energy, 0 evade, 7 hull, 4 shields, 35 points, 1 epic point

Ability: When you collide with a ship, it is not destroyed. Do not roll dice for colliding with a ship. Instead, when you do collide with a ship, lose 2 energy.

Actions: reinforce, recover

Upgrades: Crew, team, cargo, cargo

Offense retrofit (modification, 10 points)

Space cruiser only

You loose one cargo upgrade icon. You gain the hard point upgrade icon. Increase your epic points by 1

Enhanced thrusters (modification, 10 points)

Space cruiser only

Energy: spend 1 energy to move 1 left bank or 1 right bank

*The Black Mask(+1 energy, unique, Title, 5 points)

Space cruiser only

At the start of the activation phase, you may spend one energy to ignore your pilot ability for the round.

Adventurer (crew, 2 points)

After you move, if there is an enemy ship in your primary firing arc within range 2-3, you may force it to perform a one forward boost.

Imperial officer (crew, 3 points)

Imperial only

After an enemy ship performs a maneuver, if that ship is within range one, you may assign that ship one ion token.

*Rebel leader (unique, crew, 2 points)

Large or huge ship only. Rebel only

You gain the coordinate action.

Hutt cartel member (crew, 2 points)

Limited

When another friendly ship at range 1-2 discards an illicit, you may discard this card instead.

Rapid-fire reflex turret (2 attack dice, range 1-2, hard point, 3 points)

Perform an attack (even an attack outside your firing arc).

You must have suffered damage this round to perform this attack

More to be added soon.

ATR.

You've been warned.

ATR? I'm drawing a blank.

Dakka dakka!

It would still be garbage that wasn't worth its points compared to conventional fighters.

I take that back actually.

It would still collect dust and would never get used.

costing 1 epic point

Allows you to run five ramming bases.

Epic points are a way of effectively saying you can run two huge ships but only one corvette. Three is the cap thanks to Team Epic Dogfight (three points per player, any ship over 3EP would be unusable). One epic point ships would allow ramming bases to be spammed.

As for

"Possibly even with a special rule that it can't run over ships."

...what happens when it overlaps a ship it can't run over? If it can be blocked, why is it not a Large Ship instead?

Decimator fills that spot between blocked large ship and totally steamroller huge ship. An 'XL' ship can cause damage to large and small bases like the Decimator with upgrades.

I don't see a problem with spamming ramming bases. Especially if they are slow, unwieldy without spending points to upgrade.

Ghost should have been an epic ship. That thing is way too big to be a Large ship. Its barely smaller than the Gozanti/Transport

But its a rebels ship. Gotta make the ships from the tv show viable!

I just watched an episode with Ghost docked to a Gozanti. . .they are nearly the same size!

Also watched the episode with Hammerhead Corvettes. WANT!

And if they are still mining Rebels for ships, I also would like to see the Sentinel shuttle and the Luxury 3000 Yacht. Both of these ships could fit the role the OP is looking at.
