Is it me or does the same feel like they put Lord of the Rings and Arkham Horror into a blender and this is what came out?

Something highly unpleasant, I imagine. My guess would be that, if you fail your fight check, the monster immediately attacks you.

What does retaliate do?

Most are assuming it means the enemy hits you back.
