Star wars reading

By Mcpolle, in X-Wing

I have genuinely enjoyed all the post Disney buyout Canon novels. Even the ones that have had less than stellar writing styles, such as The Aftermath Trilogy (two parts released so far) have had excellent characterization, both of new characters and old - such as Wedge. Bloodlines and Lost Stars are by far the two best, with Lost Stars being the BEST Star Wars Novel I have ever read. Twilight Company is good too. Especially if you want characters that are not actors in the movies, Lost Stars and Twilight Company are great.

I'm pleased to see so many recommendations for the Stackpole X-wing series, though I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. It highlights all the stuff we love in our tabletop game, keeps the "mystical mumbojumbo" to a minimum, and was overall the one Starwars series that really stuck with me for life! I think I may just grab them on kindle and give them another read!

I'm actually a little disappointed that so few of the pilots from that series made it into this game...

I would recommend the Essential Guide to Warfare. It's old canon and not a novel, but it's still a good read. It goes through the history of war and conflict in the Star Wars universe and even has a few small articles written from the perspective of certain characters like Wedge being asked to describe Soontir Fel, and even a short piece from a stormtrooper who survived the battle on the forest moon of Endor. You'll see the Ewoks in a different light after reading that.

A New Dawn is a good read, especially if you're a fan of the Rebels show.

Tarkin & Lost Stars my next to read.

I forgot about Twilight Company, I agree that it is solid. Better than the Battlefront game, even.

And I'm looking forward to eventually grabbing Lost Stars, though was waiting for the paperback.

Daley and Stover understand the tone of the films perfectly which makes these books the best in my opinion.

That is until you get to the NJO series and Traitor, where we have a deep philosophical look at the force and what it means to be a force user in this big wide galaxy. Great read and I love stover, but not all of his books are fun and easy.

As a really short aside, Stover also wrote the Caine novels and I suggest everyone read, Hero's Die.

Now to the Question:

Lost Stars is a great book for the new Cannon

Bloodlines totally redeems Leia's character in Episode VII

Heir To the Empire is classic

The Mandalorian Armor is the first book of the Bounty Hunter Wars series and features all of the favorites if you are into that.

Happy hunting.

If you like graphic Novels I would suggest Darth Vader and Vader Down.
It´s published by Marvel, written by Kieron Gillen and the artist is Salvador Larroca.
Well worth it.

It's also in the new canon, though I'm not personally a fan of the direction they took with Vader's supporting cast.

And I found the Star Wars series to be kind of garbage at the start, because it felt like the characters were literal superheroes, which I do NOT care for.

Kanan's series, though, has been pretty fantastic, especially if you enjoy the character from Rebels already.
