Better 2 man squad combo?

By sunny ravencourt, in Star Wars: Armada

So I have a list that is "named pilot" heavy for squads. It's not really a Rhymer-ball since it only has Rhymer and no other bombers except Fett. It's designed to win the squadron game straight out and then move on to ships as a bonus.

In finishing out the list, I can roll with 1 of two of the following options. Which do you guys like?

1: Soontir Fel and a Firespray

2: IG88 and a Tie Advanced.

The other pilots already there are Vader, Mauler, Fett, Dengar and Rhymer.

I'm somewhat partial to IG88 because he's just an assassin that can go after anyone. Plus he has rogue and a scatter.

Thoughts?

I really like IG88. With Mauler in a list and some intel to keep him moving you can quickly kill Jan Orrs or the enemy Dengar and then pin squadrons as you wish.

I would take IG88 + firespray. Downgrade Fett to another Firespray if you need to free up points.

Throw the rest of the list into the fleet subforum.

The answer you are looking for is Tycho and no one.

My new go to fireball is Vader, rhymer, mauler, dengar, fett, and two sprays. It absolutely annihilates enemy squads with all the auto damage and counter, and then still has four bombers to work ships in the event of squadron less lists or after you've already killed all enemy squads.

I've looked at stuff like that but I feel that the guy I don't get enough bang out of is Vader. Vader shows up, gets a good shot off and almost always dies immediately. For 21 points, that's a pretty bad deal. I'd rather feed an unnamed Advanced to the wolves like that. If Vader had a scatter it'd be different. Or even a natural counter.

I'm also looking at Mauler, Rhymer, Dengar, Fett, IG, Fel and and Advanced. No Vader or Sprays.

If Vader dies, but prevents your other squadrons getting taken out that round, thus allowing you to finish them the following round, it's a good deal.

Vader should pump out roughly the same damage as 2 Tie Advanced, per round, and he gets 2 braces. Combine that with his Counter dealing damage 75% of the time, to Tie Advanced 50% of the time, Vader is worth his points.

I'm not sure I'm following this. Vader doesn't have a counter.

Dengar gives him counter one. And since his crits count as hits, he's almost guaranteed to retaliate with one damage every time he's attacked

Wait, I had no idea that worked like that. Vader gets the "bomber" bonus for counters too? I had no idea. That's pretty awesome.

It's not bomber per se, in that he can't resolve critical effects. However his crits DO count as damage, on both his blue and his black dice

Yep, not quite bomber, but if Vader rolls a die, and there is a crit icon, he deals a damage with that icon.

He can throw down 5 anti-squad damage (it's rare, but I've one-shotted X Wings before. Man that feels good) and 2 battery damage.

He's pretty sweet.

6 if activated by Flight Controllers! he is a beast and no mistake. (just increases the chances of getting 3 damage after a brace, really.)

Imperials get some really, really nasty Anti squadron capabilities and synergy and Vader is certainly worth involving in any plans that involve squadron annihilation.
