Second Chances (OOC)

By Comrade Cosmonaut, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I'll activate the crit. Fewer troopers means we can finish killing them sooner and decrease the odds of backup

So, I'm going to be frank and say, although Ze'nemon is a concept I really like, he's not working out in current form, or in context with the adventure. He needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, or shelved for a different game.

Crit it is. Details in the IC post forthcoming.

So, I'm going to be frank and say, although Ze'nemon is a concept I really like, he's not working out in current form, or in context with the adventure. He needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, or shelved for a different game.

So, let's talk it out. If you could possibly know anything about sinister; my wife loves to respec, loves to make new characters, and start afresh. It's something you adapt to. So, that said, how could we make this work? What would have to change for you to enjoy Ze'nemon, or what would make you happier to play?

Does this have anything to do with the new Sentinel book?

Not overtly. I was holding out for it, seeing as it is the Sentinel book and all, to get some ideas and such. It's worked as food for thought, but I've become less certain about aspects of his overall design and progression. I suppose I'm detecting a discrepancy between what he is spec'd for and what I'm envisioning. I think it would either require a considerable revamp, going back into his story and reworking everything else, new spec, new starting gear. I'm overall attached to him being a Sentinel, but it would take some work to get everything to fit.

Another thing is, three characters I've designed have all fit into a similar role, and I've kind of been looking at designing characters in a completely different role than them. Play species that don't get a lot of attention, focus on areas that are technical or social instead of martial (or push it to the background, at least).

If you want a whole respec, I see no reason to not. We're quite early into the campaign, so it isn't a trouble to just retcon the handful of instances we've had so far.

So, what do you think you'd like?

I love the idea of modders, droid techs, riggers. I also really like the idea of maybe a less imperious, imperial face--someone who knows the bad elements, rather than high society?

I just picture the party staring oddly at Z'm as he morphs into someone completely different before their eyes. The Stormtroopers standing there in sheer terror and horror at what their witnessing.

I'm not entirely sure; I was thinking Consular, but we already have one of them. Seeker/Navigator is another possibility, but we have a Seeker as well. The new Sentinel/Investigator is non-combat, so that's another possibility. Obscure species isn't really a requirement, though, just a thought.

I don't mind at all if you make a Consular. Aanu might be a Consular, but she's definitely lacking in some of the usual Consular areas. Presence of 1 and all that.

I would assume that no one here will care if you're the same career. Hell, even the same starting specialization. It all comes out in the wash of how you spend your XP and play the character.

Mystic is a career that, too me, needs to be fleshed out to get my imagination machine active. Consular is in a similar spot, but less than Mystic.

That being said, Consular may be my choice. I've got to think about it some.

Have you considered the Seeker? Hermit, Pathfinder, and Navigator may all be good breaks from more combat focused characters.

I still like Sentinel, and the fervor is at an all-time high with the release Endless Vigil. Of all the specializations, Investigator is probably the best for what I'm thinking, as it uses Intellect and Perception considerably. An Iktotchi, Ishi Tib or a Chagrian would play well here, as would Elomin.

I was a lot more charmed by Seeker's Navigator than I expected to be. It does different things than Investigator, but has a surprisingly similar characteristic build. I always though Aleena makes for a natural Seeker. Iktotchi could it as well.

Now, I did say I'd like to play some other than a combat type, but I don't mind if the character is capable, as long as it is a secondary aspect. For a face character, I find Consular/Niman Disciple can pull this off. It doesn't have a full selection of face talents, just Nobody's Fool, but if I focus on pure skill and characteristic (possibly supported by a Force power) it shouldn't matter too much. It's not a matter of not building a combat character, just creating a character with a fresher, different perspective. I've also formed a hazy background for a Consular character. For the background I have in mind, human offers the most flexibility to fit inside (ugh), but Kel Dor works pretty well; Bardottan is also a decent option, although I'd have to approach that one from a sideways-underground direction.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are limited to "Stormtroopers care not your name, species, or career path."

What does everyone else think?

Selfishly, my focus is on two things: I have a seeker in another game, and we don't have Endless Vigil, yet. I think Seeker is just one of the niftiest careers with a lot of variety in its trees. I'm also really interested in seeing some of Endless Vigil through another character, especially the bits I've heard about Investigator.

I also feel a kinship with your human-ugh.

I still picture them standing there horrified as his PC changes before their eyes.

But while we work out his new PC can we wrap up this combat scene?

I didn't know if Blackbird was going to have a new character up, and since he would technically have the last initiative spot...

That means it's Kalira's turn! Aww, yeah! Prepare to be entirely underwhelmed!

Don't let me hold anything in the meantime. I don't mind.

10 threat? Does this mean the entire party implodes? If so I guess I can try an Investigator next. The game would be about third chances I suppose. :P

(Second Chance At) Second Chances.

In other news ...... I actually finished writing my thesis. Haha ... did it in a month!!!

Fantastic, Kael! I had ten weeks for a project this past summer, and that didn't fell like nearly enough time. Congratulations!

Just and update ..... defended my Theis I now have a Masters degree!!!.
