Estelia calls out again as she finally notices the other Novice. As she hops down from the shoulders she is crouching on she says, "Emperor bless you sir," and moves as quickly as she can in the direction she saw Ariel moving. As she passes Farther Thorne, she points, "Ariel is moving that way out of the crowd. I'm going to try to join her." She stops herself in front of the crowd ((I'm assuming there's a small bit of clear space around Father Thorne)), and, standing as tall as she can and taking a deep breath uses the most commanding voice she can muster, "In the Emperor's name, stand aside "

Estellia's command falls on deaf ears, but she notices Ariel manage to struggle out of the crowd and make her way towards her.

Fortunately, her newfound vantage point also allowed the novice to catch a glimpse of her longtime comrade, and she had to fight a sudden urge to immediately set off towards Estelia in order to rendezvous with the other girl. Instead, she tried shouting her name - a futile effort amid all the other cries - and pointed towards a direction where the crowd seemed lighter, indicating a way out.

Ariel manages to force her way towards her fellow sister Estelia.

Balthazar notices the sisters making their way away from the mass and goes over to the pair.

Balthazar shoulders his way through the roaring crowd and joins the Sisters. Somewhat out of breath from the ordeal, he leans on his staff and shakes his head. "That was a more... tumultuous exit than expected. It seems that the crowds.... on Desoleum are much more... excitable than those on Thaur." He looks over both of the Sisters. "Estelia and Ariel, did you both made it out without any injuries?"

Estelia nods, "this was certainly unexpected. Where are we heading now?"

By sheer coincidence - or perhaps rather the guiding hand of Him-on-Earth - the dark-skinned novice had managed to link up with Estelia again, surprisingly almost tumbling straight into the other girl's arms as she had somehow managed to weave, climb and push through the disorderly torrent of worshipers. Spending a moment to check if all her belongings were still on her person, she accompanied her fair-skinned sister in faith to the priest, somewhat shaken but quickly starting to calm down after the unusual ordeal.

"It appears we are unharmed, Father", she comments with a glance to Estelia, not quite back to her old self as she is still trying to conceal her discomposure. "Throne, just how ... how can they even live like that? Animals."

It was unusual for the girl to swear like that, in particular for Estelia who had known her for so many years. Then again, it was perhaps not surprising that one so fond of following rules and regulations was a little more shocked when encountering the effects of their absence, at least in what was supposed to be Imperial citizens.

A laud hailer calls out at the group, "You're coming with us." one of the Enforcers that Balthazar saw earlier says.

The other is wading through the crowd to the roughest fighting and beats the back of the skull of one of the pilgrims yelling something out, but it gets drowned in the calls of the mob.

((They look like the picture of the Sanctionary in the core rulebook's dramatis personae.))

Almost instinctively, Ariel's grip on the combat shotgun tightens, combat reflexes battling with disciplined restraint. At first confused at the role and purpose of the crimson-clad enforcers, the novice quickly draws her own conclusions from their uniform appearance and handling of the situation.

"Who are they? Local soldiery?"

Estelia sighs as the soldiers approach. The Novice flips the straps of her holsters down so the pistols can be easily drawn, but keeps her hands carefully at her sides, otherwise.

"Hopefully they're smart enough to know we didn't do anything to start this mess."

The laud hailer calls forth, "Outsiders, put your hands on your heads and approach me slowly, noncompliance will result in detainment."

Estelia frowns beneath her helmet, but complies. No reason to cause any more trouble; however, she eyes the soldiers warily, ready to jump at any moment.

((Estelia will attempt to stop any attempt to remover her pistols from her person. She will do nothing if just the knife is taken.))

The other novice hesitates, a look towards Estelia revealing mild surprise at the blonde girl's compliance before her gaze continues to Balthazar, seemingly looking for guidance. She will not surrender her weapon before being signaled to do so by the priest.

Balthazar moves forward, one hand holding his staff and the other on his head. He holds the staff as a walking stick so as to appear nonthreatening. Out of the corner of his mouth, he instructs the Novices: "Put your hands on your head, but don't surrender your weapons yet. I will clear up this misunderstanding."

As the Sanctionaries ((I think that's what they're called?)) approach, he says, "Hello officers, is there a problem here? We were caught in the scuffle near the pilgrim transport for a while. The situation has devolved quite a bit over there."

The Sanctionary grimaces under his visor, an adult face with a shadow of facial hair, a large mole on the left side of his chin, "Yes there's a problem, you caused a riot in the docks of the port and now operations have been delayed for what the Inkies expect to be nearly half a day. Care to explain yourself? Father..." he questioningly leads.

((Just as a note, before any other modifiers are applied socially interacting with a Sanctionary suffers a -20 penalty.))

"You would think these people have never seen a priest of the Ministorum before, the way they crowded around us, and the way they refused to listen. It's strange" Estelia had been about to say something much more harsh, but the soldier hardly seemed in a personable mood to begin with. Only after she finished speaking did she realize what she had said. Ariel was sure to throw that back in her face, later. The Novice scowled at the men, hands still on her head.

Reluctantly, the other novice had slung the large shotgun over her right shoulder, the weight of the weapon causing it to sag. With seemingly every fiber of her body resisting, she slowly raider her hands, clearly unused to the concept of surrendering to anyone but one of her senior Sisters. Only briefly did Ariel glance towards the other girl as she spoke, her brooding still focused on the Sanctionaries.

In spite of Estelia's expectations, born from years in nigh-constant proximity to the dusk-skinned zealot, Ariel was unlikely to hold this slip of the tongue against her when the other girl's own sigil-armor proudly advertised their affiliation to anyone before even giving its wearer time to blab. She had still spoken out of turn, of course, which in a schola would have yielded a beating, but her friend's temper had become one of the few constants on this trip.

Balthazar tries to explain the situation to the Sactionary. "Officer, we were certainly present at the platform, but we did not incite any violence. I tried to lead the pilgrims away from the landing zone, but several members among the faithful started the scuffle of their own accord. I assure you that we had no intention of causing a fight, and I profoundly apologize for any disturbance to the port's arrivals schedule." He is not used to this sort of scrutiny -- priests are at the top of the social ladder on a shrine world like Thaur and rarely face challenges from the Mournful Guard, who are generally more interested in protecting the sanctity of the tomb-complexes. He still clearly has much to learn about the customs of the Imperium at large, but in the meantime he figures that deference is the best course of action.

"Pilgrims are like that, most clergymen can control the masses...most." he pointedly states looking at Balthazar.

You can distinctly hear the tapping of the Sanctionary's boot and he sighs. Sort of like he's upset that it isn't as easy as just throwing you in jail, but he responds, "I understand father. We get clergy from Thaur here on occasion. Although that's usually when they're picking up the dead. We've got to clear this mob though, so...we're not really sorry about how they're gonna get roughed up. Honestly they'll do worse to themselves later, so I wouldn't be that worried. In the mean time it'd be for the best if you and your two...whatever got out of here. Can I point you anywhere to aid in that?"

Estelia says nothing, hoping Father Thorne remembers Sister Inellia's instructions to go to the local consulate to receive further instructions. She shift impatiently, not liking having her hands in such a defensively compromising position around armed men. She glances to Ariel - at least her own weapons were kept at her waist, rather than slung over her shoulder. The Novice moves her gaze back to the soldiers, still wary of their apparent insolence.

Ariel's eyes narrow slightly at the Sanctionary's ambiguous description of the novices. In her mind, the weapons they were carrying should leave little doubt as to what function the girls were to perform.

For the time being, she kept her hands above her head, glancing to Estelia as if waiting for the other novice to lower her arms first. In terms of defense, she did not feel disarmed. Though the shotgun was out of reach for her hands, to her the latter were weapons in their own right. Idly she wondered if the soldiers on this world received any advanced training in unarmed combat, smiling to herself as she imagined various approaches to disarm the trooper.

Balthazar nods his head and makes the sign of the Aquila, then replies, "Actually, we were planning to visit the local customs office before venturing out into the main body of Port Gyre. Where can we find it?"

The Sanctionary hums in consideration, "Well we don't have a custom's office per say...there's the Field Precinct of the Adeptus Aribtes, and the Officio Auctoriate Porteus that the inkies maintain. That's for recording all the traffic that comes through the port. And then we, the Sanctionaries I mean, maintain checkpoints at all entrances in to Hive Primus. So you can pick your poison as it were if you think any of these fit what you might need."

Heedless of how silly it might look to engage in a conversation with one's hands still on their head, the novice sororitas speaks up, casting a glance towards Balthazar.

"I believe we should head to the Officio, Father."

Estelia had been thinking that the Officio did sound most like a "consulate," so she nods her head in agreement with the other novice. The soldiers could have had the courtesy to allow them to lower her hands. The girl decides that having her hands above her head is no longer necessary and moves to lower them, slowly.

((If any of the sanctionaries tells her to keep her hands up she'll do it, but she won't be happy about it))

Balthazar makes a pensive face, then smiles. "Yes, the Officio sounds like the place we're looking for. Can you please direct us there? And thank you very much for your time." Once the Sanctionaries direct them to the appropriate building, Balthazar is ready to depart.
