No way to block content from users?

By comawhite, in X-Wing

This thread just reminded me of the multiple people I should have #ignored long ago.

Yeah but you ain't gonna ignore me are you ole pal? I mean I did fuss about the Gunboat some... and I do post filthy images from time to time:

Please remain my friend.

^_^

Would you **** me? Cuz I'd **** me.

Aha! At last the utterly ridiculous and esoteric block function is explained. Now to dig through the Rogue One trailer thread, (re)find all the sexist jerks, and put them on the list.

The idea of Ignore function is the cancer of the community forums. Childish desire to close your ears and imagine it's not there.

It's far from childish to want to be able to not listen to bigots, idiots, and trolls.

The idea of Ignore function is the cancer of the community forums.

I think it's fairly required on community forms.

There are people you will simply never agree with, and why bother reading something you know is wrong?

Frankly, that's precisely what I mean when I say "childish"

Because you just said that everyone who you never agree with is always wrong, and but a child might think himself always right.

That's exactly the reason Ignore function is misused and considered the cure to everything.

You don't cure dizziness and lack of sleep with aggressive chemotherapy >_>

Without the Ignore function I would still have to read posts by PGS. I dont miss that part of the forum.

I'll try to explain it, but realizing that I'm probably on your ignore list it's a little pointless, but here goes.

No you're not. In fact there's only one person who has earned a permanent spot on my ignore list, and that's BKL. It's not that I don't want to be exposed to his opinions, it's that having read them enough time I know they're not worth reading.

Now you may of been on my ignore list at some point... I will put people on there when a debate becomes heated enough because I know I have trouble not responding. So rather then continue a headed argument that is going no where, I'll put someone on ignore so I can let it go. Every month or so I go though it and remove everyone but BKL. Even a week or so after I put someone on that list I'll click the 'show post' button to see what they have to say

Because you just said that everyone who you never agree with is always wrong

Wow do you just not get it..

There comes a point in which I can say that I will never agree with some people on the only things they post about.

For example BKL who has never posted anything in this form that's actually worth reading. It is not childish to ignore his pointless drivel.

Or there was Rapture, whose only purpose in posting here is to start an argument, he contributes nothing to the discussion. The only thing he does is find some point he can argue and looks for someone to argue with.

Why should I waste my time even reading something from someone like that.

It's not childish to realize that when it hurts to do something, that you stop doing it.

I had one person on ignore for about two weeks. I then decided that I'd rather just see their posts just in case they have something worthwhile to say, but if they want to be a jerk fine. that's their problem I don't have to reply. I might disagree with some people here but we all love Star Wars and X wing isn't that right?

A temporary detention, but hey what ever works for you! :P

Although, now I'm getting quite paranoid if I'm on anyone's list... Well, if I am, and if you've taken me off just to see one comment I made... Well, I'm sorry

You shouldn't have to ignore someone for just one bigoted, or trolling post.

How often does someone make just one bigoted or trolling post? If someone makes one post like that or even a couple then that's one thing. But after 15 or 20 such posts I think it's clear they're simply not someone who's worth bothering with.

Interesting topic that has connections and consequences well outside the confines of our computer-typing-commenting world. I guess it comes down to people, diversity, community and patience. I think most times we're irritated by a post or two there is some background to that irritation that lies outside the green pasture that is discussing a miniatures game based on our beloved fantasy epic. Yeah, there can be but-head moments for all of us; which we can probably all get a pass and give a pass from time to time (such as my crazed desire to comically promote the Imperial Gunboat haha). However, I guess, as in life, there might just be members of this site who have the express pass for infuriating others with no real desire to enjoy the game better through this community....in that instance, why have an ignore or block button when we can use thermal detonators?

There are a few people who are infuriating in how aggressively they contribute nothing of value, and every now and then I almost pull the trigger.

But honestly, I just love a good internet train wreck and I know I can't actually look away, even when I want to. :)
