Is the Warhammer Invasion LCG's system similar to the Call of Cthulhu LCG's?

By Aedon2, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Just because they're both LCGs and are both made by Fantasy Flight Games doesn't mean they will play similarly... but it CAN mean that. :)

I'm just curious: Does the Warhammer Invasion LCG play similarly to the Call of Cthulhu LCG? ...I'm sure there are some diffs even if they do, just curious if they're kinda based off the same game system/rules or if they're pretty different.

No, they're very different. Warhammer Invasion plays more like a typical CCG, whereas I'd say Call of Cthulhu tends to play more like a board game - if you see what I mean. The strategy and approach is quite different in each instance. In Warhammer units tend to deal damage to each other and that sort of thing, whereas in Call of Cthulhu it is more strongly about skill management among your units and claiming objectives. I guess I'll let someone with more experience of each speak more eloquently about them - I'm not brilliant at saying exactly what I'm trying to say.

Anyway, my point is that they're different.

Also, you can check out the rulebooks for each on the game's section of the website, under "Support".

CoC is about struggling over stories. Icons and strength play out in a comparitive battle over the stories. People will die, go insane, and victory points will be accumulated. Quick game lately...

W:I is about attacking the other player's zones, these zones house the opponents units where they generate power. each zone's power giving that player more cards, more resources or in the battle feild, the ones attacking, so defending your zones becomes a tough decision. burn 2 of 3 of a players zones and you win.

I like W:I as it gives you more freedom over how many cards you draw, resources each turn, and FEELS bloodier (even though in reality it feels like CoC is the harsher swingier game... for now.. last i checked).
