Armada and X-Wing in Imperial Assault Campaigns

By BigBlue2007, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Does anyone include Armada and/or X-Wing in their Imperial Assault campaigns? I was wondering if anyone let me know how their experience was with it.

There's pretty constant talk of doing something like this, but I've yet to see something actually feasible put together.

I think you could probably work X-Wing in without it being too bad, but Armada's just got too long of a run time, and there's no way you're going to get all of the players involved.

... But I'm still interested to see someone pull this off well!

With the Corellian Expansion on Armada, that will make a springboard for creating campaigns. The Armada to Imperial Assault can have missions from IA allowing the winning player to choose the mission cards in Armada, then the Armada thing, and of course X-Wing can be non-Armada based squad action. Set up a random encounter table for each zone or system and roll an X-Wing attack die, on a Ka-Boom an X-Wing encounter takes place. Then a roll off for who chooses the battlefield layout and points value, eg: each player rolls two attack die and an evade and whomsoever rolls the most Booms (a Ka-Boom = two Booms) chooses the mission scenario for the X-Wing battle.

Just a thought.

I have been contemplating combining all 3 games by essentially using the campaign structure of IA but include missions that use the other two systems as well as IA missions. The primary stumbling block would be needing for the heroes to have stats for all 3 game systems. It would also require the various reward cards, class decks, and so on to have some cards that were relevant to the other game systems. Of course, there is also the issue of making 4 specific individuals relevant in an armada setting without being either grossly over powered or ridiculously easy to kill.

For X-Wing I'd let them pick 4 rebel pilots, and just change their names. Like pretend Luke is Loku or Wedge is Fenn or something. And they play out dog fights. Enemy points are a calculation based on number of influence earned over the campaign.

Armada I'd probably just have then control the Rebel fleet as a group making decisions for the Rebel High Command, and have the characters sitting on one of the big ships. If it gets destroyed you can play the captured forced mission. Hehe. Strength of fleets would also depend on campaign.

Victories in either could influence the threat available. For example if they destroy the star destroyer in orbit, half threat because no imperial reinforcements.

Have you seen the Talathen Sector Campaign? It looks like a huge amount of work, but it's a really inspiring example of how to combine the three games (four including the RPG), with plenty of ideas that could be used in a more limited-scale campaign, perhaps just linking together a few missions.

From the RPG, we converted the game into X-Wing, by using the Pilot skill levels +1 as the X-Wing Pilot Skil roll.

meaning that someone with 4 skill points in the RPG is equal to Pilot Skill 5, and with 3 Points becoming a Pilot Skill 4 - which is abut right for a Veteren.

It also means that the highest a PC can get is Pilot Skill 6 - everyone thught that was fair.

Personally, I wouldn't want it to feel like its my IA character in all settings, as that's really not fitting to their story. Also, I like the idea of the universe, even just the campaign universe, feeling bigger.

So the IA characters might be supported via X-Wing characters, but they are truly separate.

The biggest issue I see is trying to assign a cross-game bonus that makes the additional game time worthwhile, but doesn't unbalance the other games.

IMO, X-Wing would be the easiest to customize, though Armada is really only a couple steps off from there. IA I don't think could really benefit from any outside bonuses, so using IA victories to choose Objectives/Missions/Maybe Initiative in the other games could be viable.
