Rogue Squadron 64 Expansion Pack

By timbungeroth, in X-Wing

Why are all the cards huge?

Because bigger is better, ask your significant other.

I like your cards so far. I'd change Dac's ability to "add an evade result" instead of roll and additional die. Dac has to stay alive long to get over confident and feel like he could take on the whole Empire by himself, am I right? And I would change Hobbie to "Large or Huge ship" so he would at least be an option in standard play.

Some cool ideas here. The artwork you chose is perfect.

The only card that made me really pause was the advaneed refit. Combined with all the others, I think it's just too much.

Make it a title or modification card at -2 and it would be a nice option neXT to the others. Basically I think it's better to design options than autoincludes.

I would LOVE this as a set. There's enough great ideas in there to fix the T-65 and then some! Retail at 40 bucks!

Of course we already have plenty of X-wings now, and FFG isn't gonna tackle something like this any time soon :(

Instead of all X-wings put some in A-wings and E-wings as well. Who wants to see Wedge in an E-wing raise their hand.

Ok! First things first. We've all agreed on the fact that Advanced Refit is overkill so I've updated the OP and raised it from -4 to -2. This mirrors the A-Wing's Chardaan Refit and gives the player more flexibility when choosing secondary weapons. It's no longer a penalty. However, that leaves us with the question of how many points do the Seeker Torpedoes cost? (And where do I find suitable artwork? Looked everywhere!)

I hesitate to bump it from 4 to 6 since it's only 3 attack die but, just like in the N64 game, they will be terrorize standard Tie Fighters.

@Hobojebus LOL

@JJFDVORAK That's a solid idea about Dak. I'm worried though that it will cross into the territory of Luke's survivability. What's better: an added evade result once per round or an extra defense die for every attack per round.

Also, good note on Hobbie! He's part of the core group so he should always be flying. I'll most likely make that change.

@GrimmyV Thanks! Exactly! I listed 3 ships in my fake marketing copy. Now I just need to enlist someone to come up with an alternate paint design!

@Marinealver Believe me, I thought about adding Y-wings, A-wings, and B-wings but I wanted to nail the X-wings first. Maybe a Wave 2 with all three, dividing the 7 Rogues up between them???

After reading this, I was convinced we were getting an actually spoiler from FFG! :P

I can't say what's already been said, other than I'd make Hobbie target big and huge ships, so he would be viable in a 100 point match. Also I'd make the ADV. Refit PS 3 and up only, so we won't have 5 x-wings in a 100 point tournament (that's why the lowest pilots are 21 points right?)

Anyway, keep up the goodwork!

Two big thumbs up for a Zev Senesca card.

Love the art, but what's with no wedge buff?

@GLEXOR Whoa boy. Are you in for a treat! It's arguably my favorite of the series (though nothing quite matches Rogue Leaders Vengeance on Kothlis mission). As I mentioned above, you can pick it up cheap on GOG.com. It plays like a dream with a Logitech wireless controller on current PC software.

I would get it, but 1, I'm broke, 2, I Don't have a computer, I'm on my IPod, and 3, I'm broke.

Gotta say, I love this thread! Some great ideas, and good feedback! I'd buy two copies, one for me, one for my bro! Rogue Squadron 4 life!

If I had time away from work, I'd whip up a set for the Stackpole series. X-wing versions for Corran and Tycho, cards for the rest of the squad. Add in the named droids like Whistler and Mynock, plus Mirax in the Pulsar Skate for support... Those were my favorite Star Wars books, and pretty much the primary reason I got interested in this game.

This is awesome, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Loved all the Rogue Squadron games, both on N64 and GameCube. Me and my friend played the hell out of Rebel Strike Co-op, trying to get the best stats in the world. We must have come really close at Attack on Bespin though, had an insane run there, with epic scenario stats. Good times.

Well done, like the abilities, I think you already implemented the most fixes and other people mentioned the things I'd change already but really good work.

The card art is really amazing (well maybe except the torpedoes :P ), so....

...when does this come out? :)

I really like this! Also, I noticed T-70s can equip all of these cards because of the wording... Was that intentional?

Again, glad you guys are enjoying this. Took me about three full days to research, plan, design and create (plus all that time spent playing Rogue Squadron and X-wing). Totally worth it :D

@bcons Ha! That means I did my job. Writing the fake marketing copy was one of the best parts!

Also, I really like this suggestion. I already updated Advanced Refit but the theme of the pack was that only unique X-wing pilots get this upgrade due to the Alliance being low on credits. Would you all be opposed to keeping Advanced Refit at -4 Squad Points if it were restricted to Pilots with a skill level of 5 and above? That keeps the upgrades to a limited few and is thematically consistent. Would love more feedback here.

@Samwise Gamgee Love Zev. Great name and held significant screen time in ESB. His ability is based on the film dialogue, "I've found him! Repeat! I've found him!" I figured him being able to spot enemies at long distances would allow him to jump right into battle and focus with a target lock already equipped. Nothing to sneeze at!

@catachanninja Good point. I thought his pilot ability was already spectacular. Its direct and effective and I used it as inspiration while buffing the other pilots. He's allowed to equip Rogue Leader with Luke which distinguishes him, but I'm open to suggestions. Reducing defense die by 2 seems overkill and Wedge really needs more defensive capabilities...but advanced shields, Tallon Roll, and boost do a lot in that department.

I think another unique astromech is probably the answer here, but could not find any suitable R3 art work (I spent hours looking for painted droid art...). It would have to be like R2 as well: perform a free boost action and discard one damage card maybe? Thoughts here, everyone?

@GLEXOR Been in the same boat numerous times. I'd suggest getting an N64. You can land one for as little as $30 as opposed to buying a whole new PC. Then an expansion pack and the game is about an extra $20. Or just put it on a birthday list! That's how I got my CR90!

@Lego Leonidas Love this idea! I was thinking, now that there's an official Resistance Faction, it would be awesome for the fan community to collaborate on an EU inspired New Republic Faction. That would be the perfect set up for all the post ROTJ New Republic Rogues. Again, I think this is a great idea. Plus I'd love to incorporate CorSec, especially since it has its roots in the Brian Daley novels.

@JayDestroyaC I was once living the same dream :D One summer I achieved rank of Supreme Allied Commander in Rogue Leader. I'm currently a Colonel in RS64. They really need to remaster all three and re-release them in one package with Co-Op for all three. HD would be nice but 3DS would actually be my preference. The cancelled Rogue Leaders for Wii is a total bummer but at least we got that awesome orchestral version of the main theme!

@HanFan This is a GREAT point. I'm very open to changing everything to T-65 X-wing only . How's everyone feel about this? Or do you want these on your T-70's as well? Again, thoughts on this?

It would be amazing if these were real, I have only played 1 epic game and it was fun, 4 of us made 150 point lists and went to town.

We need shorty TIEs!

And space-capable V-Wings.

Or just better balance with some of the ships,

Maybe pilots that have more ablities for the ships they fly? Wedge should have Barrel roll and boost on his card as well as his ability.

@patox What a great resource! Makes me want to ensure I have every ship unlocked in each of the three games. Space V-Wings would be cool but a sub game pitting Rebel Speeders vs. Imperial Landcraft would be amazing. I'd love to see an AT-AT Expansion pack with new Tie Fighters alongside a Snowspeeder pack. Never played Imperial Assault though so I'm not sure if that would infringe on that territory.

@Raltus I think the idea is that the ships themselves are defined by what's in their action bars - but the best pilots can implement things like Expert Handling. So with that Elite Talent Wedge could barrel roll, and now boost with the Refurbished Astromech.

Do you need an expansion pak to play?

Like the idea, but the Pilots and Upgrades are laughable.

- Luke is definitely not a PS9 pilot.

- Wes Janson at PS7 wtf?

- Zev and Dak died on Hoth, we never see them in an X-wing.

- Ksan Moor? Digging deep?

- You could have also included Tycho, Corran Horn, Ibitsam, and even Soontir Fel all prominent Rogues.

- You have an opportunity to add Barrel Roll to the X-wing and you never used it at all. The Barrel Roll is one of the key points to X-wing combat.

- The only occasion an X-wing would have its Torp refit is to add Missiles, ECM, or other electronic Warfare kit. Using it for a points reduction is not appropriate game or theme wise.

- Rogue Squadron Title makes no sense theme wise and becomes an Auto include just for FCS as an option.

- All the Advanced cards... Do you just want ships better than T-70s?

- Rogue Leader should be the Title card, losing the EPT for this is meh.

This post is based on Rogue Squadron 64. Of course it has Kasan Moor. Also torp refit has precedent with Chaardan refit on the A-wings.

We need the 1969 Buick Electra.

@GLEXOR Expansion pack is not necessary but HIGHLY recommended.

Thanks. How well does the Buick play in rogue squadron?
