The card art for these is amazing.

That looks pretty cool. I don't agree with some of the new abilities and cards, but the art is nice and it's fun to see the old 64 game get some love.

This is actually a really good idea...advanced refit is far too good though. 17pt rookies?

That is incredible! FFG should take notice, building expansions around a nostalgic love for such an iconic game, especially one that actually blends with the miniatures game concept, well, they're just losing money. Anyway, awesome work on the project.

Looks cool, but that negative point cost is insane.

Thanks everyone!

Rogue Squadron and X-Wing Minis are my two favorite Star Wars games. I really tried to make each pilot ability reflect their character or reference a classic line of dialogue from the films. I'd like to keep the theme of all the cards in tact, but please feel free to pitch in ideas on how to tweak point totals, abilities, wording, etc. I'd love to hear and incorporate all your thoughts!

Make no mistake though, this pack was designed to pretty much do one thing and one thing only: mow down TIE Swarms :D

-4 pts for loss of a useless upgrade slot?

uh....automatically glued to every xwing.... that is an insane price cut. 17pt rookie pilots even without ANY other upgrades is pretty dope.

-3 point cost reduction max... -4 is pretty lop sided... but awesome.

Thanks everyone!

Disclaimer: This is coming from someone who flys 100 point format pretty much exclusively. If you don't care about the limitations of that, ignore points that are based on those concerns.

Luke: Hmm. I'm not sure the PS hike is warranted, but that's probably nit picky and the higher PS might help him see more play.

Kasan: While her ability is thematic, I'm worried it will cause her to not see much play. Agree with PS.

Wes: I don't agree with the change to his ability, as his old ability can be a terror.

Zev: He looks good, though you might need to change his text to "beyond range three" as only in epic do people carry rulers for ranges 4 and 5.

Hobbie: Again, I'm worried about his play time. I also really like his old ability, though I will admit it can be gimky.

Dak: I like him.

Advanced Blasters: I think the wording needs to be tweaked so someone can't argue that it prevents you from using a Target Lock at all with that ship. Otherwise, I'm for it.

Advanced Shields: I think this is unnecessary with Integrated Astromech already out, but there is enough difference in what they do that I can see it being a matter of personal preference.

Advanced Retrofit: With the historical data of Chaardan Refit and part of the x7 title, I think the lowest this could go is -2. But even with only costing -2, I would use the crap out of it.

Seeker Torpedoes: I like the idea, but I think that is waaaaay under priced.

R2-D2: grey area for me. I would be very interested to see which version of R2 would see more use, this or the old one.

Refurbished Astromech: I'm for it.

Rogue Leader: I'd say limit it to X-Wing, but otherwise, awesome.

Rebel Strike: I'm a huge fan of this one.

The only think I think I'd add is a Rogue Squadron generic pilot that can take the title and has an EPT.

Aaa and that's what I got. Hope you found this useful. :)

@SabineKey

Awesome notes!

Luke: I struggled with this one but in the end he's the main playable character of RS64 and the hero of the franchise. The official Luke feels like Red 5, where this Luke is Commander Skywalker. The pack was designed for use of both :D

Kasan: She was designed as more of a bonus card. She's definitely situational and you probably wouldn't want to bring her on scrums with scum!

Wes: Going strictly for "Good shot, Janson!" without much more thought than that. RS64 states he's a gunner first and foremost. But again, the official Janson is a great card and compatible with the pack.

Zev: That's a very good point. I have a CR90 so I have the ruler. The full squad was definitely designed for epic 300 pt. play escorting a transport or a very lean Corvette. I think all 7 clock in at 220 with the current cost. I'll continue to chew on this.

Hobbie: This is definitely designed and reserved for epic play - "Two ships against a star destroyer?" In 100 pt matches I'd go with the official Hobbie.

Dak: He can't take on the whole empire himself, so he needs all the help he can get!

Rogue Squadron: Agreed! I was thinking about making all their ships T-65 Advanced which could maybe solve multiple issues? Open to more ideas here.

Advanced Blasters: Good point. I'm thinking you can roll with 4 without spending the lock and 3 if you want to spend it. Open to rewrites on this one.

Shields: Agreed.

Refit: Also agreed and seems to be the consensus.

Seeker: 6 pts?

R2: Wanted to give the whole team boost but keep his ability in tact. Play testing will be the key here.

Leader: Agreed!

Strike: Thanks!

Pilot: I struggle with this since the Rogues are all unique entities. The idea behind the pack is that only the best pilots get these upgrades cause the alliance is short on credits. If I do it, I'd need to bump Hobbie and Dak up to PS6 and bring in the Rogue at PS5.

Luke: Okay, using that prospective on Luke could justify the PS change.

Kasan: I guess it comes down to I liked the character and would like to be able to use her more.

Wes: Working off that description, I'd say make him a crew card, but there isn't anything Rogue Squadron related that he would fit on. A bit sticky there.

Zev: Again, if you are making him specifically to be played in epic, my point may be moot.

Hobbie: Fair. And that reasoning could also work for your alternate Wes too.

Dak: heh

Rogue Squadron: I actually deleted that point because I wasn't sure it was that big a deal. The T-70 already has a tech slot, so is comes down to if the systems slot is worth it for them. But limiting it to the old t-65s would be a boon for the classic X-Wings. As for how to word the limitations, you could either specify Rebel over Resistance. That's the best limitation I have seen concerning making something for the old X-Wing and not the T-70.

Advanced Blasters: Um, maybe add a line saying "if you choose to increase your attack, you may not spend the target lock" or something.

Now, here's another idea for how this could work. Make it so that you roll your attack normally, then when you would spend your target lock, you can choose to instead roll an additional die. That would take away some of the gamble of this title, but would probably constitute a higher point cost, probably up to 3.

Seeker Torpedoes: I'm not sure. With stuff like Deadeye, this could become an unholy terror. And then you put it on a ship that can take extra munitions, and that's two freaking shots with this thing. I'd say 6 points is the minimum it should cost, and should probably go higher. (Someone with a better background with ordinance could be more helpful here.)

R2-D2: Understood. There are also those who view R2 as underpriced. I'm not sure if the way you have this new R2 is more powerful or more limiting. Like you said, testing is key.

Pilot: Okay, I see your point.

This would be awesome! I love rogue squadrons 2-3, I don't own a 64, so I don't have 1.

Like the idea, but the Pilots and Upgrades are laughable.

- Luke is definitely not a PS9 pilot.

- Wes Janson at PS7 wtf?

- Zev and Dak died on Hoth, we never see them in an X-wing.

- Ksan Moor? Digging deep?

- You could have also included Tycho, Corran Horn, Ibitsam, and even Soontir Fel all prominent Rogues.

- You have an opportunity to add Barrel Roll to the X-wing and you never used it at all. The Barrel Roll is one of the key points to X-wing combat.

- The only occasion an X-wing would have its Torp refit is to add Missiles, ECM, or other electronic Warfare kit. Using it for a points reduction is not appropriate game or theme wise.

- Rogue Squadron Title makes no sense theme wise and becomes an Auto include just for FCS as an option.

- All the Advanced cards... Do you just want ships better than T-70s?

- Rogue Leader should be the Title card, losing the EPT for this is meh.

@smccaughan

Love this build. I remember Wedge saying in one of the X-wing books that Biggs was basically a member of Rogue Squadron and he would have been had he survived the Death Star assault.

@SabineKey

Kasan: Agreed. She might be my favorite card in the whole pack. I'd take out "Imperial ships" but I'm afraid that might make her too powerful. A situational card for sure, but thematically speaking, the Rebels are fighting the Empire 95% of the time.

Blasters: Rebels Only is a great idea. That might be the key to differentiating between the two X-wings. I like your suggestion although I was trying to simulate the Quad Laser shot you can perform in RS64. You need to line it up, and send out one powerful burst. Still, I'll chew on it!

Wes: I LOVE the idea of making a Wes Janson crew card. I've got a Snowspeeder Expansion pack idea so that might be perfect.

@Kael Hate

Thanks for the feedback! However, this expansion pack was designed as an homage to Rogue Squadron for the Nintendo 64 (and its two sequels on the Nintendo Gamecube) not the Michael Stackpole novels. All of the upgrade cards and pilot cards directly reflect the characters and tech upgrades that are available in that game. It also takes place in between ANH and ESB so Dak and Zev were alive and well.

I did my best to marry the two universes and highly recommend playing Rogue Squadron (you can get it on GOG.com) in order to understand what I was going for.

@GLEXOR Whoa boy. Are you in for a treat! It's arguably my favorite of the series (though nothing quite matches Rogue Leaders Vengeance on Kothlis mission). As I mentioned above, you can pick it up cheap on GOG.com. It plays like a dream with a Logitech wireless controller on current PC software.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone!

i have to admit, the idea of Huge ship affecting skills/cards and beyond range3 abilities makes me want to ponder some epic only cards for nonhuge ships....

;)

I would be happy about some post-Endor Rogues :D

@Vineheart01

I decided to design this squad after getting the CR90 for my birthday. Having a a squadron of fighters escort a huge ship to safety changed the game for me completely and it felt a lot more like STAR WARS. My wife and I have implemented an interface where we play a "Season" and fleeing the battlefield as a tactical decision is far better than getting totally annihilated. It just feels more like the universe.

Personally, I love playing large ship vs large ship (1 on 1) for good fast paced action and Epic 200-300 point matches. Ideally this RS64 expansion pack is basically designed for Epic play and acts like a "huge ship."

I'd like to keep getting feedback and see if there's a good way to implement that.

@RogueLeader42

Thanks for noticing this! I had it down as Advanced Lasers until this morning, but I played through RS64 before posting and it said "Advanced Blasters" so circumstance demanded it.

But believe me, I hear you. I'm more than happy to whip up a variant with the correct terminology for you if you'd like.

Outfrigginstanding. I love this idea. I love the pilots, upgrades, everything. The game is called Star Wars X-Wing! Let's make the X-wing competitive again. The refit might be too much, I'd do -2 instead, and the Seeker Torpedoes may be under costed by 1 or 2. Also, I would probably make the refit a Modification instead of Torpedo, because you'd have to decide between a -2 (or -3) refit, or spending 4 (or 5 or 6) points on a one-hit torpedo. Someone would almost always choose the refit over the torpedo for a net savings of about 6-8 points per ship. It wouldn't ever make sense to take the Seeker.

Advanced Blasters also seems under costed. I would price it at least 2, maybe 3.

Edited by derekstanggt

@derekstanggt

Thanks!!

Glad to be able share this with like minded fans. I've heard a lot about X-wings not being competitive anymore and have personally had much more success at home with my B-Wing so I decided it was time to re-invest in the X-Wings I bought. (Don't worry though FFG, I just bought a CR90!)

Great notes! Yeah it looks like refit will be -2, and Seekers will be 6. Making the refit a mod is a good idea but that would make you decide between taking or not taking Advanced Shields.

Advanced Blasters is definitely under cost. 2 pts for sure and maybe more. Once I get all the feedback to process I want to make sure the 7 ship squad comes in at a good round number for epic play. Ideally I'd love for them to be able to escort both the CR90 (maybe too many points) and the transport (should be ok).

I remember buying that so I could play perfect dark, £90 well spent.

Why are all the cards huge?
