Yeah my bad thank you. My Physics is unpolished.
Defense Stacking
@OggDude
So, considering that there are players AND Devs on both sides of the fence with this issue, would it be possible to add in an option for your generator to allow defense to stack with defensive/deflection? I ask because I use your generator to keep all my character info up to date, and I am personally involved in two games that operate on either side of this issue. In one, they stack, the other doesn't. If we had the ability to toggle the stacking ability in your generator, it would make my character sheets accurate again.
At ;least, until we get a definitive answer from the Devs, that is.
And may I say, a HUGE thank you for your contributions to this game. Your generator makes my life SO much easier, especially for custom items.
Here's the post with Sam Stewart's response
More details on defensive abilities and their interaction (hint: there really isn't any):
"What would be the melee and ranged defense of the following character:
3 Brawn
Sentinel: Shien Expert
1 Rank Defensive Training
Wearing Armored Robes
Wielding a Riot Shield (Left Hand) and a
Shoto Lightsaber with a fully Modified
Lorridian Gemstone and a
fully Modified Curved Hilt ? And why? How would the various defenses stack?"
Sam: "
Ranged Defense 2Melee Defense 3The modified lightsaber would be the source of the defense, because it has the highest ranged and melee defenses. The shoto lightsaber has no innate defense, but the Llordian Gemstone comes with Defensive 1. Its mods allow you to increase the weapon’s defense. Same goes for the curved hilt, its mods also allow you to increase the weapon’s defense. All of the other defensive sources are from different items, and do not stack."
I allow stacking cover with armor (just as was allowed during beta). Given how easy it is to come up with boosts or negate setbacks, stacking certain types of defense is not the game-breaking thing some people fear. Also, I think it's silly to try to explain to players that when wearing armor they are no more protected by the rock they're cowering behind as standing out in the open. Non-stacking defense renders cover almost meaningless, and that doesn't make sense nor is it cinematic. OTOH, would I allow stacking defense from a lightsaber with cover? No. You'd have to be exposed for the lightsaber technique to be effective. Do I allow stacking a riot shield with armor? Yes. The riot shield is in effect a portable rock (cover). Does cover stack with cover in my games? No. You don't get to add the benefit of a riot shield to the defense of rocks or crates.

This seems like an appropriate answer. And if a GM doesn’t like that you have x as cover, oops, that crate was shot to pieces by the autocannons. Cover needs to offer something to the game or else it loses any credibility. I am happy they do not allow multiple sources of Defense to stack, but cover seems to be a seperate entity from those discussions.
