Second Chances - A Force and Destiny PbB

By Comrade Cosmonaut, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hello!

For the last few days I have been chatting with a few people about a Force and Destiny forum game here, and currently there are a few folks who seem to be interested, but having reached this point, i thought it best to open it up to the forums at large. There are three people who have currently expressed interest, so that means I can fit one or two more players.

The game will be set during the dark times, right about when the Battle of Yavin should be taking place. I won't be messing with the movie canon, though I may play around with Legends materials.

The game as it is in my mind right now, is about the exploration of the galaxy to discover about not the Jedi and the Sith, but rather about any and all of the traditions which called upon and made use of the Force across the galaxy. The player characters should expect to learn and discover through a game of discovery, exploration, and daring. A focus on lost lore, the ancient ways of the Force, and finding one's place in the galaxy at large, be that as a guardian protector, a sage educator, a lonely wizard, or a terrible plague unto the galaxy.

A few notes:

We shall be beginning at Knight Level, so go ahead and take that extra 150XP. Also, I want to try something, so there will be no credits, we can handle gear and equipment through logic and gameplay. That means you can have the extra 10XP from the Morality, Duty, Obligation mechanic.

Also, everyone must begin with a career, and thus first specialization, from Force and Destiny, though any further specializations may come from any career or game line. I own all non-adventure books, so it's all available. When making a character, go ahead and work out the character's moral compass, their weakness etc, but to be truthful I don't like Morality as a mechanic, so I intend to use Duty, with the Duty being to the Force.

For players we have:

Absol197 the human Mystic Advisor

Blackbird888 the kyuzo Sentinel Shadow (perhaps?)

And introducing my wife Sinistar the undecided Undecided Undecided.

I'm intrigued. I don't want to volunteer too swiftly since I'm in 3 other games on this forum and don't want to hog all the play but I wouldn't mind playing with Absol and Blackbird :D

For your consideration though I built this character for another game on this forum that has seemed to go nowhere. It may be fitting for what you have in mind.

Lord Kolah

I find it interesting in that all the Force users I'm playing and none of them are training to be Jedi!!!

Hey look, a thread! It's a nice thread, too~

I'll be playing Kalira Belami - should be fun, I think!

She is...exactly the opposite of everything I like about Mystics, and people in general, but hopefully through the guidance of the Force, she can become a better person!

EDIT: It's a Kael! Hi Kael! I think you taste terrible, but you're a pretty cool dude!

I am not Undecided: The Undecidening.

I am in fact considering either a gank warden or a (human or klatooinian or polis massan) seeker (navigator or hunter). I'm not sure about the former's progression, but I'm pretty sure I'd take the seeker into demolitionist so I can be "planes and grenades." My problem comes in that both of these are appealing (and all of these races are appealing), so I thought, being that I am newly invited, opening it up to see what the people I'll be rubbing elbows and force powers with thought.

The gank: stereotypical cybernetic'd stoic mercenary hired to find out what the Empire is up to, hired by I-know-who, not necessarily a hutt.

The seeker: given the world, someone with sense, able to navigate, and fly, could see the world as their alien oyster. If non-human, may have a humans-are-superior complex engendered by the Empire's dominion.

I am not undecided. I am super excited.

Ze'nemon, Kyuzo Sentinel/Shadow. I haven't quite working on his backstory yet.

My word you people are fast.

Anyway, Sinistar (oh, am I excited she's gonna be here for this) is waiting her first post to get approved so she can actually participate. But she's split between the Guardian Warden or Seeker Navigator. And a slew of species.

Kalira still looks great, and Ze'nemon likewise seems very solid. My favorite career/spec in Force and Destiny.

Kael! Welcome to Jusrassic Park the thread. I've seen Kolah a couple times now in the game which shall not be named. The only issue with him is, as I mentioned, no credits for this game!

Oo! I see there's already a Shadow and an Advisor, so... I'd be interested in playing a Consular/Sage, mayhap? Or possibly a Seeker/Executioner.

Edit: I'm leaning towards Executioner, but I'll do Sage if your wife goes for a Seeker.

Edit Edit: ...apparently there's already an Executioner. That's what I get for posting in haste. Sage for me.

Interested if still recruiting.

I had a saber using Selonian Striker in a game that recently finished without ever gaining xp beyond Knight Level. I would love to refresh that character if possible.

EDIT: It's a Kael! Hi Kael! I think you taste terrible, but you're a pretty cool dude!

you need to fry it, preferably deep fry, it turns into an incredible chip like thing thats delicious! (i like cooking btw)

...But I just said he's a pretty cool dude, why would I want to deep fry him? That seems like a mean thing to do...

Ze'nemon, Kyuzo Sentinel/Shadow. I haven't quite working on his backstory yet.

A non-human as "weird" as a kyuzo is exactly the kind of thing Kalira needs around in order to...broaden her horizons, shall we say. Be prepared to be called a bunch of other species that aren't remotely correct, at least for a little while :) ~

That means I get to play the "humans are the ugly aliens" card.

Yes you certainly do :) ! She would love to hear that, too, let me tell you...

Somehow my Sage concept turned into a Sage/Aggressor concept. The stats are done, but I still need to decide on the morality, background, et cetera.

Aanu, Zabrak Consular (Sage/Aggressor): http://swsheets.com/c/ek4vtcwur-aanu

I will edit the first post at some point. Kael and Shy (who's sheet I will review shortly), welcome!

Richard, I'm afraid I'm not comfortable with what I call big groups, so it makes my cap five PCs. After that I tend to miss details. But I will give you a shout if an opening appears or if I begin a different game for one of the first spots.

We're still waiting on a mod approval of her first post... but she's leaning toward a Gank Guardian Warden now.

Updated with a preliminary background. Still trying to decide on Emotional Strength and Weakness. Curiosity/Obsession would be the obvious one, but it doesn't feel quite right to me somehow. I'm also considering Justice/Cruelty. Hmm.

Edit: I also forgot my extra 10 XP. Oops. *scribblescribble*

Hi, I know you have probably got a full group, but just throwing my hat in the ring in case a spot opens up!

*buys Forsee basic power*

And going with Curiosity/Obsession after all, I think.

Thank you!!! I think?

Thanks, yeah I was kinda annoyed that that game went south so fast as I really liked the Kolah concept. I mean how can one not like a concept based on Lord Bowler from Briscoe County Jr? As for the equipment I can work out the rest of it.. I pretty much just posted the sheet as I had made it for that game we aren't talking about. I'm sure whatever equipment we eventually work out will be fine and I'll remove it all in the morning. :)

Alright. I think I've got Aanu together. Let me know if anything isn't adding up! :)

i just saw the post where the group is full. Have fun!

If there is still place, I am interested in joining as a Seeker Executioner

Mr. Cosmic GM-Man, I can understand the dislike of the core Morality system; might I recommend considering using the variant that Marcy uses for her games? It's one I've adopted for my own game, and I think it works well for helping characters explore the light/dark duality that exists in everyone.

The gist of it is that each person has a default, either light or dark. If you're default is light side, you use light side pips normally and spend Destiny Points and Strain to access dark side pips; if you're dark side, the reverse.

If you performs actions or maintain emotional states that are representative of the opposite side of the Force, you flip to the other side until such time as you've had a moment to re-center yourself. If you act in a fashion that is consistent with your emotional strength or weakness, you gain the benefits of being a light-side or dark-side paragon while doing so.

As an example, in Return of the Jedi's final battle of the Force, Luke is naturally light side - calm and centered and filled with the hope that he can redeem his father - and spend the majority of the battle using Light Side pips. However, when Darth Vader taunts him about going after Leia, his rage fills him and he flips to the dark side, becoming aggressive and reckless, no longer fighting to redeem but to inflict pain.

However, after Vader saves him by killing Palpatine, Luke tries to save his father and flips back to the light side.

Alternatively, in Episode I, Qui-Gon is light-side the entire battle with Maul, while Maul is dark-side the entire time. Obi-Wan starts off light, but when Maul kills Qui-Gon, Obi's main motivation at that point is revenge - he flips to dark side and puts the hurt on Maul. He doesn't do anything significant enough to flip back to light side that we see, so it isn't until he's had a chance to cool off from the battle and re-center himself (a.k.a. we have a screen wipe and a significant passage of time) that he returns to his default light-side.

Just a suggestion - it's a fairly intuitive system, but I can understand if you'd prefer to avoid introducing new elements in your first PbP game.

I sort of like this system, and sort of don't—I'd probably prefer falling/redemption being fully narrative. (It's not a bad system by any means, but it's not really to my taste.) And "Duty to the Force" does sound interesting to me, for all that I don't have Age of Rebellion.

Oh, I do have a question—how are conflict talents going to be handled?

It's neat that my approved post retroactively showed up where it should be in the thread if it hadn't been delayed. Given the evolution of the thread since then, it's worth saying I've settled on the gank guardian warden. Sheet edit to follow!
