I'm looking for a rebel list that's going to be easy to fly. Most of the players in my area are running imp lists with Whisper+CountessRyad+(stuff) OR scum (usually two expensive PS9 ships). So far I've been playing with a triple TIE Defender list, but looking to switch to rebels just to be different.
Currently the items I own are:
- Blue Core II set minus the upgrade cards
- Imperial Veterans
- TIE Phantom
- 2x TIE Defender
- one Vetern Instincts card that someone gave me when I bought the TIE Phanton set. This community has a lot of nice guys.
I looked at the Three Amigos 2.0 list
https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/228631-three-amigos-20-or-making-a-case-for-r3/?hl=t-70#entry2387531
but that seems to need Vectored Thrusters and R3 Astromech from the ARC-170 pack, and I can't find ARC-170's for sale anywhere.
I'm thinking about trying:
- Keyan Farlander w/ Veteran Instincts
- Corran Horn w/ Veteran Instincts
- Poe Dameron (PS8)
Total Cost: 97 squad points ($22.79 for Rebel Aces + $12.41 for E-Wing = $35.20)
I really liked Stackpole's Rogue Squadron books and the X-Wing game as a kid, so Farlander and Horn have some name appeal. My biggest concern is that's three different dials I have to learn. Maybe add Vectored Thrusters and a Veteran Instincts to Poe down the line (when I can find Vectored Thrusters for sale somewhere) for arc dodging and getting him higher PS than Whisper.
Or
- 1x Poe (PS8) w/ Veteran Instincts and Weapons Guidance
- 3x B-Wing Blue Squadron Pilot
Total Cost: 100 squad points ($12.41 each for 3x B-Wings = 37.23)
Looks better durability with the B-Wings and four ships total, but low Pilot Skill on the B-Wings.
Or:
- 4x Blue Squadron Novice T-70
Total cost: 96 squad (3x T-70's = $44.22)
Maybe replace one of the T-70 packs with a second copy of the Core II set; increases the cost to $67.75 but gives me a spare set of asteroids and rulers. Not sure what to do with the last 4 points. The Talon turns just seem like it would make the list more forgiving of noob mistakes.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Noob trying to setup a 100-point cheap rebel list
When I fly four blue squadron novices, I always put a one point droid and Integrated Astromech on each one. That's a surprisingly good fleet, but can be a bit tricky to fly.
To get a lot of Integrated Astromech cards is tough. I'd wait until Heroes of the Resistance expansion pack comes out and buy one of those in place of one of the T-70 packs. Then you've got four X-Wings, four Integrated Astromechs, and hopefully a good selection of cheap astromechs. With Heroes of the Resistance, you'll get a YT-1300 and you can try seeing what you can build with one of each TY-1300 and X-Wing - Chewbacca and Poe Dameron are a good starting place.
Corran is a great pilot. He's not going away anytime soon. I've actually seen very effective lists with just Poe and Corran, but the best droids for those pilots come in the packs with the OLD X-Wings...
You're right to consider Rebel Aces. I haven't seen a lot of B-Wings lately, but A-Wings are very, very good. Jake Farrel is an awesome pilot from that pack to stick on any fleet for about 25 points (depending on what's on him.) The old A-Wing pack couples well with Rebel Aces, because Rebel Aces has cards that you need to fly the old A-Wings. The old A-Wing pack comes with Corran and Keyan's old buddy, Tycho Celchu. He is a truly awesome pilot. With some of the newer cards like Experimental Interface and Rage, and some old ones like Push the Limit, Tycho can even give Darth Vader a run for his money.
By the way, if you're looking for ARC-170s, I can't find 'em either. they're not out yet. Heroes of the Resistance won't be out for a while yet either. You can check https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/upcoming/ to check for when new ships come out.
Always good to see a new player trying out the rebel faction! May the force be with you!
Given what your local meta is flying, you'll probably want a
Millennium Falcon
pack. Slap that Veteran Instincts on Han with Luke Skywalker crew (who comes in the Falcon) and you've got a pretty effective Whisper and X7 TIE/D hunter.
It's cheesy, but there's no other way for Rebs to reliably tackle mobile, tanky fighters like Whisper and Ryad with just small ships (short of a Stresshog Y-Wing, but that would require buying a Rebel Transport and a Most Wanted pack for just two cards... so nah).
If your playgroup gets sick of your Han, though, they're likely to switch to Soontir Fel and other Aces with Autothrusters, and that will be a tough, tough match-up for you. I guess the bright side is that without any Scum in your meta, you don't have to worry about Triple Scouts auto-beating your Rebels.
I'd say buy a
Falcon
and an
E-Wing
pack, try and go with a Han/Corran build. Corran will want R2D2 from the old core set, but I'm sure someone in your group has an extra card of this guy. You'll probably want Vet Instincts on your Corran too, but he's also happy with Predator or Push the Limit (the former which you have thanks to your defenders). Slap en Engine Upgrade on Corran from the Falcon box.
Han Solo + Veteran Instincts + Luke Skywalker + Falcon Title = 55 points
Corran Horn +
Push the Limit /
Veteran Instincts + Engine Upgrade +
R2D2
+ Fire Control System = 44 points / 42 points
Cards in bold are the only things you'd be lacking after buying a Falcon + E-Wing ,and I bet people have spare R2D2s or Push the Limits to trade. If you do put Push on Corran, consider moving Han's Engine Upgrade over to him. Otherwise, having double Vet Instincts (you'll get a second in the Falcon box) helps against Aces with your PS10/11 (and will be a nightmare for Whisper especially).
I can't think of a cheaper way to start playing Rebels, but be advised that if anyone starts running Torpedo Scouts (Scum) or Soontir Fel / Palp Aces you'll have a much harder time of it.
Thanks guys. Gave me a bunch to think about.

Poe can do pretty well in place of Corran, and he already has the ship. Real problem would be getting the autothrusters which tend to be in high demand and take a StarViper to buy otherwise; the rest of his kit (VI, R2D2) is easy enough to get hold of, and he's a great ace hunter and whisper-killer.
The real trick is the specification 'easy to fly'; there's quite a few decent Rebel builds out there if there aren't too many Uboats being thrown about, but they all require at least moderately careful flying to succeed.
Building a list around a PTL Poe with BB-8 can be a lot of fun. (I think you'll find as you gain more tournament experience that PTL and BB-8 are good choices but not the best for Poe.) The Falcon or the Ghost would be great Rebel tanks to pick up to fight against those pesky Defenders. I personally am a huge fan of flying 3 X-wings (mixing between both types). I am very successful with:
Wedge Antilles (32)
X-Wing (29), BB-8 (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Integrated Astromech (0)
Poe Dameron (37)
T-70 X-Wing (31), R5-P9 (3), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2)
Red Squadron Veteran (31)
T-70 X-Wing (26), R3-A2 (2), Predator (3), Integrated Astromech (0)
This list can be changed in a few different ways if you're missing some of the cards and cannot borrow them.
I was going to say Fat Han is one of the cheapest and best ways to go, as flying the Falcon is really easy, gives you a turret and pick up Corran Horn as a support fighter. (its within your budget)
If you can find them cheap, I'd get a falcon and an outrider and run chewbo. Putting experimental interface and lando on falcon in place of c-3p0. which personally i like better. But i'd definitely run a falcon build
Edited by PinkTacoMay I suggest Blount with a missile. Biggs with R2 astro and integrated astromech, and anything else. Maybe a thin Dash? A 17 pt annoying a-wing (autothrusters)?
As a devout servant of the Empire, those are the most annoying ships to play against
I'll agree with comments above, I don't have experience in the seat of the Falcon yet, sadly, just to many fighters to get the swing of first. I love flying Horn and he's THE Rebel Ace to be sure; my mostest-favoritest (but pricey) set-up for him is:
48 Corran Horn – E-Wing (35), R2D2 (4), Push the Limit (3), Engine Upgrade (4), Fire Control System (2)
Beyond the cannon lore and the cool factor, I do love the T-65's and have had great luck flying them being one and against novice players. I realize that they are not Meta beaters as far as tournament guys will tell you, but they're lots of fun, hit pretty hard, and are more survivable when moving mistakes come (as they always do in the beginning, and later, and much later, even now, haha). So, this is a nice list of Horn and the X's:
42 Corran Horn – E-Wing (35), R2D2 (4), Fire Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1)
32 Wes Janson – X-Wing (29), R3A2 (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Integrated Astromech (0)
26 Biggs Darklighter – X-Wing (25), R4D6 (1), Integrated Astromech (0)
As easy to learn to fly as that list is, when you get your wings under you, so-to-speak, this Horn squad is a hoot:
48 Corran Horn – E-Wing (35), R2D2 (4), Push the Limit (3), Engine Upgrade (4), Advanced Sensors (3)
32 Jake Farrell -
A-Wing (24), Push The Limit (3), Proton Rockets (3), Autothrusters (2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Veteran Instincts (1)
17 Prototype Pilot -
A-Wing (17), Chardaan Refit (-2), Autothrusters (2)
I know these lists don't assist in your desire to keep costs down, but, well, that's gonna be the real challenge. In a nutshell, be sure to purchase what puts a smile on your face, because of or despite what others may say....it's all about the fun!
Welcome to the plastic-crack-addiction game; cheers!!

The reason you won't find ARCs anywhere is because they haven't been released yet, except for a pre-release at GenCon earlier this month. We know all the cards, but the expected street date is somewhere in mid-september to october.
