Do hero's roll defence?

By Mexicanbear, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So the other day during a quest I was OL and I used treacherous shadows to make the hero's attack themselves and the hero's were adamant that they would roll defence even though I am making an attack with them as if they were my monster. If anyone knows the actual rules on this or if FFG could elaborate that would be awesome.

Yes, the hero rolls defense dice, just as normal.

Why would the hero lose the defense dice? If a monster attacks a hero they would also roll defense dice.

It is an attack and for an attack, you are entitled to a defense roll, unless otherwise stated. So yes, you do a defense roll.

You said it yourself: The attack is performed as if the attacker were a monster. So, follow all the normal rules for having a monster attack a hero. The only change of pace here is what dice you're rolling to attack.
