and 'It's gonna be a close one!' proved to be the most inaccurate prediction since Independence Day: Resurgence was called the blockbuster of the year.

Between some excellent moves by Gowtah and my dice's cold-streak that one spectator called 'depressing' while another exclaimed 'I hate dice games', the Akbar fleet just fell apart

If you'd like an unusually candid comment, the dice really twisted the knife but the reason it went so badly was because I had a plan for how to handle this sort of fleet and decided to save it for the game vs Ginkapo in the final instead of using it against Gowtah's somewhat similar fleet now. That way I'd keep the element of surprise... Awesome plan, amirite

It WAS quite close at the end of turn 3...but by the time I joined in today, it was anything but close. I did get to watch a couple H-6s blow up the last AF though!

I once again predicted totally wrong, as I thought we would play superior positions or I'd have to go as P1. I kept trying to think of ways to defeat an Ackbar line droning at the back of the court with rogue cover, and by game time my plan was pretty much "whatever happens, this is gonna be tough".

So I was quite relieved when Matt chose player 1 and my hyperspace objective.

My huge activation advantage and less than stellar dice for Matt helped me tons in the first turns, where I somehow managed to create a jammedy jam to contain the rogues and the incoming frigates despite Matt's insanely tight maneuvering. Luke died to a flight of YTs. Leia mistakenly slipped into the lead AF side arc, but scattered not one but two Ackbar'd volleys, before dying to the third one. Dumb luck which allowed her to block the lead frigate escape and Ackbar's frigate move, causing a ram that kept the trailing frig away.

Admo had come in with a double arc on the lead frigate, and as it turns out another double arc on the only other position the frig could escape to thanks to Leia. Yavaris nibbled on her, Admo finished her, and most of the rogues died to AS fire and Dutch actually being useful for once, and we called it for the day at the end of turn 3.

As we resumed the game I expected I'd be able to take Ackbar's frigate down, but not without trading Yavaris and Admo for it. Dice decided otherwise, big time, allowing mean Scurrgs to sweep up the place without any further loss, tailing the remaining AF as it tried to escape.

End result was 400-41 in my favour. Skywalker twins avenged.

NOOOOOO, why have you done that to me, Gowtah?!? Up to now it was the only meager bit of Armada self-esteam I had that I was the only person who defeated Rogue Madness. Now, you have not only taken that away from me, but you have also done it in a tourney which is the way better achievement!

But even if dice undoubtedly play a role, and I hate them at times (I look at you, blue devils), the sum of good vs bad decisions is still more important...not that someone here gets a wrong impression. Take nothing away from Gowtah here!
