WAWY, I offer you the same offer I gave Skycake.

Concede now and keep your honor intact. Top four is a great achievement.

I find your overconfidence disturbing.

WAWY vs Ginkapo will be tomorrow evening, at roughly 7pm GMT. Exact time to be confirmed.

7 30 GMT today. Just under sevens hours to go.

2 hours 20 mins to go

Well its start time, and WAWY hasnt logged in yet.

Forfeit? Its the wise choice...

Game ON!

Past midnight here so not going to write much.

I took first player, picked opening Salvo.

Won 248 to 200

MC80 survived untouched with 3 Bwings

Non Demolisher Glad survived crippled, along with Flagship, Dengar and generic aggressor.

Sounds like a close game, will we get a thorough write up? Would love to hear the play by play.

Congrats, Gink! And well done WhatsArmadaWithYou on doing so well in the tournament. :D

Summary:

Ginkapo played a smart, nearly error free game, while I made a series of unfortunate mistakes to seal my fate. I also went 2nd for the 1st time this tournament. Ginkapo's won bid by going 1 lower than myself, 384 vs 385. My DeMSU list has an obvious preference and Ginkapo wisely came in with a low bid to steal initiative.

The double Fighter Coordination Team + Flight Commander combo of MC80 (Command) and Yavaris (Ned-Esc) did an excellent job of pushing Gink's 6 B-Wings around the table and into position for major carnage. Ginkapo also did a fine job of positioning Jan and generic Hwk to negate my fighter cover. I won the fighter duel on paper 73-57 by destroying Bx3, Jan + Hwk versus losing IG88, Aggx1, Tie/f, & Tie/Adv, but Ginkapo won the strategic battle by being able to place and use his B-wings freely. They in turn provided great return on investment by dropping Demo, Infidel (Rdr1), and Vector.

I made a series of costly errors of concentration. First, I forgot (1) that as 2nd Player I could add 2 dice of any color to my attack pool on my 1st attack. For instance, while attacking out of Demo's front arc from long range vs Yavaris on Turn 3 after ET'ing into position, I completely whiffed whilst firing 2 red (arc) + 2 red(OS) + 1 red CF dial. Rolled 4 blanks and 1 Acc. Why didn't I roll 2 Red and 3 Black you ask? I have no clue. Yavaris lived until the last die roll of the game (Aggressor anti-ship). Considering I was using APT and Screed I almost certainly would have put more damage onto Yavaris before Demo flamed out. My next major error (2) came on the next turn when I moved Demo in behind Yavaris. I didn't check my distance well (though w/FCT it probably wouldn't have mattered) and I landed within range of 2 unengaged B-wings by the hairs of my chinny-chin-chin. A dbl B-wing double-tap spelled the end for Demo the next activation. Oh, and I forgot that half the value of a dmg'd ship is earned with the OS Obj. Do'h. Well, what's done is done.

Ginkapo played cleanly, compared to myself, but got unlucky with the placement of his fighters and rolls versus my Raider. After attacking with the front arc of the MC80 for 4, braced 2 dmg, that stripped the front shields, he was only able to apply 2 dmg to the smaller ship with 2 Bwing attacks. BCC was slightly out of range (though Toryn was in range) and due to a fighter scrum, a third BWing couldn't slide in to finish the little ship off. That said, the Raider, now sans brace token, was easily cleaned up the following round.

As the victor, Ginkapo advances to the finals. Congratulations and thank you for the tense and exciting contest!

WAWY, you have something quite wrong! I made multiple errors too! The difference was in the errors. I could have played better to keep the flotillas more useful and prevent hwks dying. However, all my errors were created by the singular goal of not letting you hurt my mc80 flagship. Without those points it would be very hard to win.

You seemed to have a lack of focus. Your fighters were set on killing mine, but refused to shoot the hwks because of their counter.

The raider and demo were definite lack of second player mistakes.

I also noticed something else. You spent hours atagonising over movements, which for the most part didnt actually matter that much. (Speed up, recognise when it doesnt matter). However, you placed obstacles really quickly. The inverted V of obstacles favoured me massively. Its about using thought when it matters, and not stressing over the small stuff.

All that said, I normally wouldnt post such critism, especially as you played well, but you appear to be blaming yourself without recognising the bigger picture.

MattShadowlord and Gowtah, what's the sitch? :)

Today is Gowtah's birthday.

We plan to commence battle tomorrow. In the meantime, happy birthday Big G.

Any idea of time? Gotta build hype for a semi final, especially as you are fighting for the honor of conceding to me!

I find it oddly comforting that my first loss in this tourney was to one of the eventual finalists. Congrats Gink!

I have similar emotions.

Was battle joined???

No. Gowtah is on the move.

I'm actually back and available, we were set to play yesterday night but it seems we had a slight timezone misunderstanding.

Pending a new appointment now, Matt's schedule seems pretty hectic at the moment. We're just postponing our concession to Ginkapo really

dont fall for ginks "concede to me" attrition strategy :)

Its not a strategy, its the inevitable
