Vassal vs. Table-Top, when posting about game-play in FFG forums.

Computer simulation has some advantages over table top with automation so being able to get exact measurements and take the waiting out of the results which can speed things up a bit. With computer simulations everything is binary as in 1 or 0. There is no it is on the line like in the table top game.

That's not even close to right. I couldn't tell you how many times we I've had situations where my opponent and I are trying to decide if two ships bumped, or if something is in range or out, or in one range band or anohter, because it's RIGHT on the edge and it can be hard to tell if the arc is overlapping the line for the ship or just touching the outside edge but not quite in, etc. Happens all the time.

It's not like vassal lets you select a ship and say "is it in arc, and at what range". You can overlay the arcs, but still have to figure it out from there.

it's definitely different, I don' think Han Solo could've done the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs in a filthy computer simulation, there's no way the hardware can take time dilation into account.

ITT: OP has a valid point and everyone else is being an ass about it.

"valid point"

I guess not getting my eyes checked in the last 8 years is starting to matter.

OP, could you simply reply & explain why you think there's a difference in people's experience on Vassal vs real life?

I seriously don't get it - I understand there are differences in vassal play - you can be more accurate, you won't bump your ship a teeny tiny bit when you put in the template, but does that invalidate that play experience?

Vassal doesn't even have a 'select 2 ships - are they in arc, at what range' feature. You still have to eyeball it, and it goes down to individual pixels and you can't tell. That's when you roll a dice for in arc/out of arc, or r2 vs r3, etc.

*side note - a 'tell me range & arc on these ships' feature would be great for Vassal - but probably a bit difficult to calculate :(
