I'm pretty new to the game. What do people think of our beloved aristocrat turned ace?

I've been flying a TIE/D tractor beam build alongside the inquisitor and a gamma squadron veteran. My friend generally uses Hera, Ezra and Keyen farlander. The games go either way: both being new we make mistakes. Oh and five defense dice and a focus token are not good enough against two attack dice...should I make her an x7?

She's a nice big lump of ks and dice modifiers

Personally default to x7 ptl and tiemk2 to set up full mods for x7 juke vessery

Don't find her ability to be super duper amazing outside ptl though (useful to 2-5 k on greens but not so crucial that id pick her over anyone else)

When you're just starting out, the forgiving nature of the x7 is real nice

Helps avoid dice related frustration too

x7, mk2 engine and push for the win on Ryad! Super fun. Not sure if is is top tier but I like it.

I love her with PTL, X7, and TIE MkII. Unpredictable and fun.

She is pretty amazing with x7, Stealth Device and Lone Wolf.

4-6 Green dice, with one reroll, a Focus and Evade Token and the Emperor makes he very hard to kill.
And the Lone Wolf really helps on offence as well.

Vessery is much better with x7 and Juke. Same token stack, 1 extra PS, Juke, and no stress. And one point less than x7 PtL TIE MK II Ryad.

She is a sexy beast, even more with x7, for the points she hit hard, is incredible difficult to kill and fairly umpredictable for a PS5. Vías is a little better in the initial game, Ryad at the end.

Accept no substitutes. When you're comfortable you can take mk 2 engines off. She is a token stack (next to a gorgeous defender model).

Why push the limit? She can focus and in some cases barrel roll, or target lock. VI seems to be a much better ept for her.

As for why Push the limit, she moves a 3(4 or 5) speed to get her evade, then she can barrel roll for position if she needs to without hurting her offense to much. There's never a turn where a Ryad is without at least focus evade, and more often than not she also has a target lock for hyper accurate dice. It has proven itself time and again that push the limit is excellent. I believe a close second in usefulness would be predator for much the same reasons as above, just with no stress if that is an issue.

You wanna build around Vessery? Then yes. You want a self sufficient Defender? Ryad's your girl. Plus, Ryad is a good bud for Vessery too.

But then you're just using an inferior list. I faced a Rebel Captive Decimator. Vessery did most of the work against it. A series of combo crits forced it off the map.

Ryad's strength is that she doesn't need spotters. She is self sufficient on her own. Afraid of stress dealers? Don't use PTL, and instead use Juke or Predator.

Will a Juke x7 Vessery with spotters have a better damage output then a Juke x7 Ryad? Absolutely. But if you don't have a team tuned to providing TL to that Vessery build, the damage output difference suddenly becomes much less of a problem and Ryad is a point cheaper (remember, they are running the exact same build), plus her ability allows for more creative flying and further stress resistance. To be perfectly honest, a Vessery without backup is an expensive Glaive, while Ryad always has her own identity and tricks.

In the opening of your rebuttal, you used the word "inferior". I believe that is only true if you are looking for Ryad to fill the exact same role as Vessery. Vessery is a beast that must be fed TL's to reach max potential, but that max is a terror to behold. Ryad has a lower potential, but she can reach it on her own, and it is still scary. Simply saying that in every case Ryad is used, Vessery could do it better, lacks understanding and imagination. Are there cases where Vessery is a better investment? Yeah. But there are also cases where Vessery's ability is not used, and you are better off with a different defender, and I would put forth that Ryad is a solid choice. Not always perfect, but solid.

Why not take both Vessery and Ryad?

I have found this list to be a beast when you get it worked right. Vessery almost always has a target lock for both shots.

I want to like ryad, but in haven't found a build with her where i wouldn't rather take soontir fel, and i like maarek or brath better with soontir.

I have a hard time making a viable list with more than one Defender, to be honest (partially due to a distrust of generic pilots.)

I've had the most success with Vessery equipped with VI, Stealth Device, and the X/7 title. Works especially well with the Inquisitor, Vader, or Omega Leader.

TIE Shuttle takes away your missile and torpedo slots, so you can't use LRS with it.
