T-70 X-Wing dial useable with T-65 X-Wing?

By Ithilien Ranger, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi guys,

I just got the original core set and am puzzled regarding the different dials for both X-Wing varieties. I assumed that I couldn't use the 'updated' dial with the original X-Wing, but from a rules-as-written point, I'd like to ask: why not?

Both dials simply read "X-Wing". This is different from the Tie Fights, which has the distinction "/FO" on the newer dial.

I had a quick look through the 36 entries of "dial" in the official FAQ and a rapid google search without any results.

Would appreciate your input!

Cheers,

Mick

Nothing to see. Looks like my friend's X-Wing dial and my T-70 dial were mixed up during our last game :)

Are you referring to the T-70 and T-65 X-Wings?

If so, the T-70 has a "talon roll" maneuver and the T-65 does not.

Therefore, the two are NOT interchangeable.

Hope that helps to clear up any confusion.

It actually is legal to use the incorrect dial for a ship, HOWEVER if you reveal a maneuver that is not present on the appropriate dial, then it is the same as if you chose a red maneuver while stressed. Which is to say an illegal maneuver and your opponent gets to set it to any legal one of their choice. Oh and the color of the move? That counts!

Are you sure the color counts? The last time I checked the FAQ it said that as long as the speed and bearing would be legal choices the ship with the incorrect dial can perform the maneuver as the appropriate color. Page 4 of the 4.2.1 FAQ.

Except for the talon rolls the X-Wing dials are interchangable if used in the "assigned the wrong dial to the ship" situation although the maneuver difficulty may need to be adjusted.

You're right, color doesn't count. It even spells it out in the FAQ. You'd perform the maneuver but use the difficulty of the correct dial.

(for example, the revealed B-wing dial shows a red [ 4] maneuver, a maneuver whose bearing and speed also appears on the X-wing ship dial), it is executed with the proper difficulty of the maneuver (in this example, white).
