Defection of the Kuma [OOC]

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I was wondering (and have incidentally posted a FaD thread about) a few force related questions, specifically a few miscellaneous Force abilities don't seem to be adequately covered by the rules, such as:

Sensing Disturbances in the Force.

Sensing the Presence of nearby Force Users

Telepathic Communication

I was wondering if I had missed something obvious, or if not, how you will be running them, Blackbird.

Also, I'd like to establish whether or not Kelly and Neville are aware of each other's Force Sensitivity (I imagine neither is going to reveal it out of choice, but such things have a way of getting out), because that's going to have a significant impact on how they interact.

I would suspect some of those will be holes left open deliberately by FFG for future supplements, Mystic and Consular seem the obvious ones for those.

That doesn't mean we will get crunchy rules for them all in the form of force powers, some may just get the same treatment as the "Heroes End" and "Force Ghosts" covered at the end of Keeping the Peace.

When I have my F&D book handy I can look at some of those, though based on memory the first two would be covered by either the Sense power or the GM just telling the character that they felt something. I don't think you can sense another Force user out right unless they are using the Force near you. We see this confirmed a few times. Qui Gon had to do a blood test on young Anakin for instance. And Vader interrogated Leia without realizing she was a Force sensitive too. The same goes for Luke. Not until he's hit over the head with it does he realize Leia can use the Force.

So I assume that unless we use the Force in each other's presence that overall we may not sense the other is one.

"I sence a presence I have not felt since..." *walks away without ordering the ship torn apart until they find the plans Jedi*

Yeah but that's him sensing someone he knew to be Force sensitive. Someone he used to work and study with. When he was in front of Leia he felt nothing. Luke felt nothing either despite having kissed her!! Qui Gon had to test Anakin to tell if he were a Force sensitive and Anakin was/is one of the more powerful Force users in the galaxy. The entirety of the Jedi Order couldn't sense Sidious, even though some of the most powerful Force users in the galaxy had regular meetings with him.

It appears to be the case that you don't automatically sense other Force users. But once you know someone is a Force user and you become familiar with them or you witness them using the Force then you can sense their presence through the Force. But far to often Force users seem to slip by each other when not actively using the Force.

Edit: Also worth pointing out but while Vader is able to sense Obi Wan he completely misses Luke. He doesn't realize Luke is Force sensitive until that fateful moment when Luke is calling upon the Force to make his shot.

Actually, my point is that whatever Vader sences, he doesnt consider it suspicius enough to order extreme measures taken.

Vader likely knew that they would be next to useless against Obi Wan so why waste the man power. Vader is very economical in his application of force. For instance he only takes two Tie pilots with him to deal with the attacking rebel fighters even though he could have just overwhelmed them with Tie fighters.

Surprise birthday celebrations kept me from the computer, but I'm back to my regular schedule and checking in.

Colonel makes sense. I figure Dain is one of the newer transfers to the Kuma, and still adjusting to the, shall we say, state of the ship.

Step grandfather passed, finances aren't cooperating until this morning, and school just started today. I'll do my best to get the rest of my character sheet filled out between today and tomorrow.

In regards to rank, I see Steneri being semi-independent since he was in Imperial Intelligence. They play by a whole different set of rules the navy types aren't used to. With that in mind, he will be a combination of communications, sensors, and EW specialist. In addition, he'll be the "resident expert" on Hutt Space, considering that he lived there for a significant portion of his life.

As for appearances, he looks like the standard Chiss and wears a utility uniform, even when on semi-formal occasions. He absolutely despises having to wear the formal uniform as it restricts the use of his gear. There's as many "questionable" items on him as there are standard issue, which fits his job. He also has a nasty habit of being stealthy and quiet, and takes a perverse pleasure in scaring people when he sneaks up on them.

I'll get an IC up in a few hours, but Jack wants to sit down and go through this intelligence and probably begin mapping an efficient path to collect data from these listing posts. The Hutt can wait until we have a little more knowledge of the situation, no point bargaining with no dirt on the Hutt ourselves.

All this would be discussed with the command crew, is there anything that obviously jumps out to Jack on a quick scan. The kinds of information in the files.

Teth is the major Imperial presence in Hutt Space

The outposts are the locations the Empire has set up bases and stations for their activity in the region; Toydaria, Sleheyron, Nal Hutta.

Listening posts are numerous secret facilities that monitor unusual traffic, illegal activity, and whatever communications they can pick up. I'm thinking Nar Shaddaa, Sriluur, Klatooine, among others.

Ok, well Hutts are notoriously cunning negotiators. Even though Jack has been ordered not to Negotiate he isn't dumb enough to go in blind. Hopefully one of the listing posts has some dirt on this Hutt.

Obviously an Imperial ship can't just knock on the front door of a secret base through fear of revealing its location, so we will probably need to tell the local Imps what we are up to and organise through them access to the Listing Posts.

But an IC discussion should happen before any of this.

By the way, don't worry, Richardbuxton, I also don't have any military experience - hooray for likelihood of embarrassing myself out of ignorance!

That said, I have a couple of questions. I know the Kuma is in a state of heavy disrepair, but would it be equipped with any kind of training sim machine for the pilots, like a holosimulator? Would Dain have even formally introduced himself to the squadron/to Iamba Lur yet, or is he that new?

Additionally, I'll admit to not knowing all the duties of the chief deck officer. Is she strictly a liaison to the captain as far as I'm concerned, or can/should I consult with her in other matters?

Shall Jack make an astrogation check to plot a path to one of the Imperial bases in the sector, probably the main base? perhaps assisting our Navigator? or do we want some more chatting between PC's?

I think we need to get to a point where everyone has something to do quickly, being in the imperial base trying to gather information seems like a good point?

Or am i off base here, should we be steering clear of the other Imperials to begin with?

Pardon for not being on point the last few days, it's been a busy last few days and I haven't had the chance to focus on either of the games I'm running.

If nobody has anything else to add, then go ahead for a skilled assisted Astrogation check. We'll use Bixala as the other navigator, with an Intellect 2/Astrogation 3. Go ahead and roll it, RB, whatever it may be, post the results, and I will get back to it on the 'morrow.

I assumed 2 difficulty, I can add to that if needed:

This should just about do it: 1eA+2eP+2eD 2 failures, 2 advantage

So a slow trip, but perhaps we make a stop over and gain some useful information, or get some info off another Imp ship when we arrive in the system?

My apologies for the lack of activity on my end. Life is getting interesting for me.

Just curious, can I roll to sneak up on the Captain? Part of me wants to see how perceptive he is when dealing with sneaky operatives.

His Perception is PP if you want to do an opposed check, or Vigilance is AAP. With a Cool of AAAP and Discipline of AAP don't expect him to jump scare too easily though!

I've updated to first post with the list of NPCs for reference.

Didn't we just leave an Imperial base? Or was that just drydock?

That was Kwenn; in this setting, not a base or outpost, just a stopover with a minor Imperial presence.

Speaking of, where did Richard decide to go...

To the main Imperial Base (Sorry i haven't had time to go back and work out which actual location that was), unless people have objections to that. I figure we had better warn the local in charge that we will be collecting information from the Listing Posts under orders from the Admiral. Its also a good chance for others to pick up info from other unofficial sources.

Steneri and his two service patch drones are going to inspect the computers and repairs. What's the check for that?

Diagnostics only: Average with 1 setback. It'll take several hours to run a full check. Check the IC post for more narrative details.

I will also get around to posting your protocol droid companion soon, if you don't mind it being an RA-7.

I'm off for now.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble progressing. Scenarios with the entire party are useful because you've got a lot to work with and the group can kick something around between them. Most of what I can think of uses the Captain, which is broing to everybody else.

I'd like to just time skip ahead to an event where everybody can contribute.

Either that, or pull off a 'game reboot.' Restart the story with a tighter focus that allows everybody to work together.

I can't help but think I was being too ambitious for my own good, but I don't want to disappoint anybody or let the characters go to waste.

Either would be fine with me, though I'd lean towards a time skip.
