Decimator - Is it worth the purchase?

By BenStark, in X-Wing

Working on my Imps game and planning on purchasing Vets and a Punisher. Eyeing the Decimator. Looks big and intimidating, and the few tournaments I've been to around here, I've flown against it at least twice in every one. Is it worth buying?

It is the best ship in the game.

Yes it is worth buying. Even if you're not a PWT fan, it has some of the few good Imp only crew cards (besides Palp). The Ruthlessness elite upgrade can be fun also. It's one of the few expansion packs that I like all three named pilots. RAC, Oicunn, Kenkirk all decent pilots.

While I wouldn't say it's the best Imperial ship, It is a lot of fun. The Tie Phantom is a lot of fun too and as long as you aren't looking to win any world championship you can't go wrong.

One of my favorites and gets a lot of play. Works well for experienced and newer players.

Has been a condending ship in almost every meta. The only question should be... Should I buy a second Decimator?

Answer

YES!!!!

Lawl. This chump right here was just texting me, because we're in a Hangar Bay league and one of his opponents is rocking Double Decimators. He has no idea how he's going to deal with it.

That's how good the Decimator is. Opponents just stare at the hulking space monsters and are immediately demoralized.

Skip the Punisher in favor of the Decimator.

This was actually going to be my question due to the sale on MM. I haven't checked if it sold out yet like the Rebel Huge ships did.

Well, a decimator/phantom list won the Naboo open....

It's awesome. People who have it are awesome. Do you want to be awesome too?

I do enjoy it.

It is the best ship in the game.

**** straight. It's one pimp-ass ride.

Nooo! RAC + Deathrain = funtime boombooms.

Imposing , even with a top hat attached to it.

I adore mine. Get one, be a cool Imperial bro.

Seems like everyone likes it from a visceral point of view. I do too. But strategically as. Powerful ship I'd offer that it's not as powerful as people here seem to be conveying.

It can definitely be taken down with a good plan.

It's flight style is kind of only two dimensional. The arc dodging version with RAC, the intetional ram with oicunn, or the rarely seen plod along like a doofus with expose and experimental interface version.

Basically, for new players is a great starting ship. Comes with lots of useful accessories. Relatively easy to fly to get mid level mileage out of. But at the higher tiers can be easily dealt with by an experienced non-fearful player.

However... It is big, fun and awesome looking. If you feel the pull for it. Get one. But currently whisper or soontirs fat rack isn't a build that is in style.

Which I find kinda funny, given that palp fits neatly onboard and still leaves room for, oh, say a rebel captive... :D

And you still have points spare for the ace of your pick. And the decimator will pull its weight in a scrap too, don't you doubt it.

Nope.

It's ugly, and gameplay-wise has no interest (turrets are boring to play with and against).

*rams the disbeliever's face with Oicun*

Nah, buy a raider, a gozanti and some aces ^-^

Or Defenders, veterans definitely made them tons of fun.

(note to self: I really must stop reading these kinds of posts - I'm now filled with a compulsion to buy a 2nd Deci - sigh)

Yeah, don't buy a second. That only leaves you with 20 points left at most and double PWT is a yawnfest for all involved. PWTs can be interesting pieces in moderation but put too many on the field and you're just rolling dice: you don't need an opponent for that.
