I can't report games in challonge for my own tournament but I won against Dee 100-56

Thanks! I thought I heard that on some podcast, but wasn't sure.

My team is currently:

Phil 3-0

Paul 2-1

Jeff F 2-1

Bob 0-0

Bryan 0-1

Jeff B 0-2

To clarify, as I cant find a log for it, Jeff F beat Antigrapist?

Yes he did, although he did not make a log. I don't know if Alex did.

Yes he did, although he did not make a log. I don't know if Alex did.

Thanks. I figured that was the one after cross checking but wanted to confirm.

Thanks for updating the results spreadsheet.

So I looked into why our collective predictions for team Commonwealth were so wrong.

2-1 record

Mr. Sunol 100 points

Sabine Wren w/ Predator, Twin Laser Turret, Chewbacca, Hull upgrade
Red Squadron Veteran w/ Predator, R2-D2, Integrated Astromech
Dutch Vander w/ Ion Turret, R3-A2, BLT-A4 Y-wing

I have no idea how this list has a 2-1 record.

3-0 record

Jaren Foss 100 pts

Quickdraw w/ Rage, Electronic Baffle, Special Ops Training
Echo w/ Veteran Instincts, Fire control System, Advanced Cloaking Device
Captain Yorr w/ Collision Detector, Palpatine

Today we learn, never bet against Palpatine, and, Phantoms are still good.

Looks like Mynocks evened out their matchups against the Champions at 2-2 now with Joe's win over BladeM. That brings the Champions to .500 and Mynocks 1 game away from .500.

Edited by AlexW

Blade Mercurial and I will be playing this Friday Oct 7th at around 9 pm EST, and Theorist and I will be playing Monday Oct 10th at 9 pm EST.

With a win tonight (Serrate vs. Nick) RookNova has firmly moved into second place at 8-5 and is one of only two teams with a winning record. They can possibly tie the Commonwealth for first by winning out. However, there are still a lot of games to play for several teams so that some good streaks could change things again.

The skill of the player is more important than the list itself, especially in a non-standard event like this. You're going to be running into all kinds of oddball lists, so being able to assess them quickly and pick them apart is the most important thing. I imagine Mr Sunol just played his list very well.

Also, whilst the list isn't optimal, it's still got 3 good ships. That Sabine loadout is an excellent endgame ship, and a nightmare to pin down. The RSV can defensively handle almost anything except heavy fire, and with predator he hits pretty hard. Using Dutch as a stresshog isn't ideal, but the format will force those kinds of inefficiencies into most lists, so it's not the end of the world.

Also there's a certain advantage in playing non-meta lists. Your opponent has to think more about how to play against you, rather than relying on pre-planned strategies.

blade_mercurial beat me handily last night, 100-0. This was definitely my hardest matchup, as Opportunist can basically never trigger, and he can arc dodge and K-turn around me all day long. It took me until round 9 to even get any damage on him. I have no idea why the voters thought this was going to be my best matchup. :P

I watched that game until about round 10, when I had to go to bed. The opening maneuver phase was a clinic in patience. I am genuinely curious how much of what happened was planned and how much was opportunistic. As far as why people voted it a good matchup, I keep hearing from various sources that Wes is good against TIE Defenders (even though I think it's pretty baseless), and people may have latched onto that.

MajorJuggler beats Theorist 100-26. Pretty crazy game that could have gone either way, log is up.

To be frank, I’m worried about Team Aces. Their draft I would grade the worst of the teams, as after pick 6, their picks really lost ground on the competition. That can be part of the struggle with the format. If you want to field something with lots of small, cheap ships, your other lists are going to suffer as you pass up other competitive, higher priced options to grab low priced ships instead. And we see this impact with at least 2 lists that seem to miss the mark. But first let’s look at the high points.

List 3, 5 and 6 are the strong points here. Named Crack Swam is a bit more difficult to fly than Black Crack, but Dom shouldn’t have any issue with that. Dash + Chopper may not be quite top tier, but just on the edge. List 6 has Palp and a Defender, not much else to say there. List 1 also has some good pieces, and it gives a tough choice to opponents between chasing Miranda or facing the Lotahal Rebel. It could cause some issues.

Now on to the lists I’m worried about.

I appreciate StarSlinger bringing out a variant of the original Imperial Aholes, but pardon me if a shuttle without Palpatine or Vader gives me some major doubts. I want this to work, but it’s hard to give a list a pass because you like what it is trying to do. StarSlinger has made it work before though, so let’s see if he has the magic still.

Also, List 2 seems to be severely lacking. I just see Kyle or Garven popping in combat round 2 or 3, and the game being finished before it’s even really started. If I’m being totally honest, what the list is telling me more than anything else is the X-wing and WSF really need help from FFG to be competitive. Mu0n, I’m counting on you to surprise me with this one, because as of now… Well… I’ll count it as a victory if you notch even one win.

Looking at the other pilots they had at their disposal, it seems they missed on List 2. They have some really good components to construct a nasty little alpha strike List. Captain Jonus, Gamma Squadron Veteran, Valen Rudor, Sienar Test Pilot, Tempest Squadron Pilot, and Commander Alozen were all quality options. Now, a mixed Alpha Strike team composed of those components wouldn’t be world shaking, but that should outperforms List 2 by a wide margin and maybe even List 4. They also had a couple of Rebel ships that were more valuable to build around than Garven. Roark, Ten Numb, and even Airen Cracken are better pilots in my opinion. Being able to have a couple PS 8 pilots in a format where PS 9 is going to be sparse is yet another reason Ten and Airen could be worthwhile.

Sample possible alpha strike list

Team Champions

Pilots being played and round selected

Round 1- Rear Admiral Chiraneau (List 4)

2- Captain Oicunn (6)

3- Darth Vader (4)

4- Carnor Jax (3)

5- Poe Dameron (5)

6- Countess Ryad (6)

7- Rexlar Brath (3)

8- Leebo (2)

9- Kanan Jarrus (2)

10- Palob Godalhi (1)

11- Delta Squadron Pilot (3)

12- Guri (1)

13- Red Ace (5)

14- Ezra Bridger (5)

20- Talonbane Cobra (1)

Not really sure how I feel about Team Champion’s draft and lists here. I like the Decimators, although I would have preferred one of them go with Vader instead of Palp for some diversity between the lists, but Palp is probably the better call overall. I actually like all of their Imperial lists. They are all really solid with great pieces.

Outside of that though, I’m not sold. The Mindlink squad feels a bit too gimmicky, Kanan + Leebo feels like a list that both pieces want the other half to be something else, and Ezra/Red Ace/Poe, while tanky, lacks the fire power or maneuverability to compete with many other lists. Also, Carnor is the only Imperial piece they have with Autothrusters, so turrets could be an issue even for their top line lists.

I’d love to be surprised here though, especially as a man who enjoys flying lists that go against the grain. They certainly have the players to make these pilots shine. I do wish Talonbane had Vectored Thrusters here, if only to see if it could work on him, and while I was bully on Kanan/Leebo, it is fun that you have a couple of fat ships that want to stay out of range 1. Should be interesting to see how that flies.

One of the pieces missed out on was Braylen Stramm. With that aux arc, he really has the ability to cripple ships with double stress either with R3-A2 Gunner or R3-A2 Tactician. I would have deconstructed both Rebel lists to get him fit in somewhere. And with how many good Rebel options they still had left, it’s not hard to believe they could have made something work well. Eaden Vrill, Tala, Lt. Blount, and even Zeb as a cheap TLT carrier or Phantom/Ghost title, were all options I think could do some good things. There were also a few choices on the scum end they could have utilized, such as the Shadowport Hunter or Mandalorian Mercenary, but I don’t think either of those would perform much if any better than what they put together.

Team Commonwealth

Pilots being played and round selected

Round 1- Han Solo (List 1)

2- Jake Farrell (1)

3- Captain Yorr (3)

4- Echo (3)

5- Tel Trevura (2)

6- Contracted Scout (2)

7- Glaive Squadron (4)

8- Maarek Stele (4)

9- Quickdraw (3)

10- Tomax Bren (4)

11- Scum Sabine Wren (6)

12- Concord Dawn Ace (2)

13- Rebel Sabine Wren (5)

14- Red Squadron Veteran (5)

15- Concord Dawn Veteran (6)

16- Ruthless Freelancer (6)

21- Dutch Vander (5)

Pretty cut and dry draft here from Commonwealth. With back to back picks, they grabbed key components of top tier lists one after another for lists 1-4. They are fielding ships from all of their picks rounds 1-16, Dutch Vander being the only outlier at round 21 (although this might be off since the pick order was corrupted in later picks), serving as an unorthodox, but likely still effective, R3-A2 carrier. Commonwealth’s top to bottom squad build strategy means their top line squads, lists 1 through 4, look highly competitive, while their bottom line at 5 and 6, with what many would consider less impressive pilots such as the Red Squadron Veteran and Ruthless Freelancer, seems to lag behind.

Lists 1 through 4 fit the mold of metas past and present with a Fat turret + ace, a Palpmobile, a Phantom, a Uboat, and a couple /x7 Defenders. That’s a very healthy mix, and I expect these lists to at worst split their wins when paired with other teams 1-4 lists. Han + Jake both being at PS 9 with a nearly guaranteed initiative pass at 97 points means this is easily one of the most threatening lists in the format.

I’m not a big fan of the lower PS Fang Fighters, so I thought Commonwealth reached in the draft on them, and even though they are decent filler where Scum has little, I can’t help but to feel those ships will underperform unless they perform as top level blockers. I would have stuck to large base, TLT, or high PS for scum myself, and with other options of IG-88D, Latts Razzi, and Prince Xizor at their disposal, I would have made some adjustments to the lists to get at least one of those 3 in to play.

Dropping the Concord Vet and Freelancer in favor of one of those 3 to pair with Sabine seems good.

In the same vain, I am surprised they elected to bring a Red Squadron Vet in their list 5, and not even with Autothrusters to cover for what seems to be a format which promotes TLT use. With Hera (VCX) as an option, a Hera+Sabine combo could have worked extremely well, with both of their abilities set up to feast on low PS ships. Sabine would need to cut out some of the bulk in the build to make room for a 3rd ship, which could still be Dutch if she really slimed down, but a Green Squadron Pilot or Tycho I feel fit there as well. Or you could, you know, do this

Don’t worry. I’m totally kidding.

*Looks around sheepishly and then goes to build list in vassal*

Team Mynock

Pilots being played and round selected

Round 1- Whisper (List 1)

2- Dengar (3)

3- Rey (2)

4- Omega Leader (6)

5- Patrol Leader (1)

6- Asajj Ventress (5)

7- Bossk (3)

8- Gold Squadron Pilot (2)

9- Zuckuss (5)

10- Zeta Leader (4)

11- Colonel Jendon (6)

12- Juno Eclipse (6)

13- N’dru Suhlak (5)

15- Prototype Pilot (2)

16- Omega Squadron Pilot (4)

20- Onyx Squadron Pilot (4)

25- Zeta Ace (4)

Mynock had a very solid draft and their lists reflect that. Not sure I can forgive them for passing Manaroo when they already had Dengar, but they came out with a solid list anyways for Dengar. That might be their strongest list, with their list 1 a close second. List 4 and 5 are strong as well, and Dallas should feel at home with a nice selection of ties. I’m beginning to think Asajj may have one of the 3 best abilities in the game after playing against her a few times now, so even if her support isn’t top tier, that list should do fine.

I’m not sold on Rey or Juno, and because of that, I don’t know how much I like List 2 and 6. List 2 does have a Stresshog, which could really help Rey take full advantage of her ability and the new title, but will it be enough? Ryan is going to need to do some fancy blocking with that Proto to keep this list up with the competition.

List 6 just feels like casual night Palp Aces. I know that sounds hyper critical, but I struggle seeing Juno pull her weight here. She’s 1 action Vader, and one action Vader isn’t Vader. I do like the 3 point Long Range Scanners (aka ST-321) on Jendon so he can pass off the TL early to trigger ATC to help mitigate the action deficiency. Omega Leader is going to need to do a lot here.

Round 1- Soontir (List 1)

2- The Inquisitor (1)

3- Omicron Group Pilot (1)

4- PS 9 Poe (5)

5- Biggs Darklighter (4)

6- Trandoshan Slaver (3)

7- Syndicate Thug (2)

8- Gray Squadron Pilot (6)

9- Kavil (3)

10- Hired Gun (2)

11- Ketsu Onyo (2)

12- Wes Janson (4)

13- Wedge Antilles (5)

14- Horton Salm (6)

16- Bandit Squadron Pilot (6)

17- Black Sun Solider (3)

18- Guardian Squadron Pilot (6)

20- Spice Runner (3)

21- Rebel Operative (5)

25- Keyan Farlander (4)

Primarily focusing on Rebel and scum TLT spam, I’d say things panned out well for the team I am calling Rova. The thing that is so great about TLT is it never feels like a stretch. Throw it on any ship that can take it, and there is a good chance that ship pays for itself. Four of their six lists contain a TLT, so if other teams haven’t built their lists with TLT in mind, Rova will make them pay heavily for it.

I really like that they “stole” away a Palp Aces list early. Rebel and scum small ships weren’t going anywhere early, so they pushed through and grabbed a clear list 1 early while also neutering the competitions ability to focus in on the popular archetype while losing nothing themselves. Having said that, outside of their clear top tier list at 1, I don’t see any dominant lists. Their List 1 could win every single match up as one of the most dominant lists in the game, but if the other 5 lists underperform, things could get rocky quick for Rova. I don’t see that happening with the TLT coverage abound though.

Looking over their left over pieces, I don’t see anything that I really feel like they missed out on. A little sad neither of the ARCs got a spot, but I don’t really see them fitting anywhere anyways. Maybe Thane or Norra in place of Keyan, but Opportunist Keyan paired with Wes can just blow things away, so I have no issue with that.

Team Scum & Villainy

Pilots being played and round selected

Round 1- IG-88B (List 1)

2- Corran Horn (6)

3- Chewbacca (6)

4- Fenn Rau (3)

5- Manaroo (3)

6- Boba Fett (5)

9- Old Teroch (3)

11- Moralo Eval (1)

12- Warden Squadron Pilot (4)

15- IG-88A (2)

16- Binayre Pirate (2)

18- Blue Squadron Novice (4)

19- Blue Squadron Pilot (4)

20- Rookie Pilot (4)

Really surprised by S&V here. I didn’t feel like their draft was anything spectacular, but drafting first seems to have paid off more than I expected. Every one of their lists is really quite good. List 1 is an untested, but great in theory list. I love the idea behind it, and I’m curious if it will hold up.

Love List 2. It’s one of those lists that come about because of restrictions, but you realize after looking at it that it actually seems really, really good. I also appreciate they didn’t just go the usual Brobots route and just call it a day and just slap B & C together.

List 3 is also fantastic. We all know what Manaroo is capable of, so I suspect this list will more than hold its own. Fearlessness is a bit curious, and I would have elected for Rigged Cargo over BMST myself, but still, Manaroo is Manaroo. Now the question is can the Aces hold up.

List 4, even as a “sloppy” Rebel 4 ship, has potential. Sloppy isn’t even really bad. It just means you sacrifice easy formation flying to instead have the opponent be unsure of what threat to go for first.

List 5 is probably my least favorite list for the group (Poor Firespray just pales in comparison to the new shiny Lancer), but Kath and Boba is not bad. Sable has some nice “Sable pieces” in the list too, with Thermals, Tactician, and the mind skewer of an unnecessary title.

List 6 is great as well. If you’ve forgotten how insane Corran is, I’d ask you to pick him up and fly him again. He is crazy powerful. Ya, maybe there are a few things he is really scared of now, but I have no doubt a player as skilled as Antigrapist will know how to navigate those waters. And what more to say about Chewie? He’s a 3 attack PWT with Predator who gets a guaranteed evade each round and also never takes crits. Ya, that still works.

Pieces they might have missed? Nera Dantels I like. But nowhere for her to fit really. Same goes for Jan Ors. Mux was another pilot they had I really like. Think I might have considered dropping Boba or Kath in favor of him and some other filler, like 4LOM. Also a pity Emon Azzameen didn’t get picked up, if only for bombing shenanigans. Wish the other factions had a Sabine crew equivalent. If they do, I think Emon gets some quality table time. Would also like Hobbie to be in that Rebel list, but tough to fit.

This is cool!

Standings page updated. I'm not sure what plans are in the last week with World's right around the corner, but here's where things stand currently:

The Commonwealth is the first team to complete all of their games going 13-5 and holding a dominating first place.

2nd place is still up for grabs with two teams at 9 wins each (ROVA 9-7 and CHAMPS 9-8) and Mynock at 7-8 could still pull out a tie for 2nd if they win two and the other teams lose their remaining games. However, I haven't checked which games remain, so it's possible matchups between the two teams could be a factor in eliminating one or more.

Interestingly, both Champs and the Commonwealth outperformed their expectations by several games. S+V currently has the most games remaining.

I just beat Jeff Berling subbing for Jeff Bizzak. Logfile is on Challonge

So that puts Champs and Rova at both 9 and 8?

So that puts Champs and Rova at both 9 and 8?

Yes. bmf (Champions) has to play SableGryphon (SV) and MajorJuggler (Nova/Rook) has to play AssortedNeedles (Aces).

Mynock could still catch both Champions and Nova/Rook.

Bob lost to AssortedNeedles 100-20 a few weeks back. I guess neither of them reported it?

Standings are updated!

Are you tracking MoV? Is that the tie breaker?

I'm trying to calculate it and it appears 2 of Rova's games aren't reported correctly by S&V. They are both loses for Rova so we know MoV is 100 or less for each game.

I'm seeing 2 games aren't on Challenge for Mynock but one is reported here, blairbunke vs Dee (100 - 56) but couldn't find the other, which is a win.

Anyways what I have so far;

(9 - 8 ) Champions 1900 MoV with 1 game to play

(9 - 9) Rova 1722 Mov with possible 200 more (with a draw but loss split 100 - 100) but likely less

(8 - 8) Mynock 1358 with 1 win missing (200 max) and 2 more to play

Looks like with a loss from Champs Rova would likely come up short as they could only afford to lose 21 points out of their max possible and that's if Champs doesn't score any points in their loss.

If Mynock and Champs win out the rest of their games Mynocks best MoV is +600 resulting or 1958, but champs is min 100 or 2000.

If Champ and Mynock both pull 1 loss Mynocks best score is +500 or 1858.

So we're sitting at either

A) Mynocks take second by winning both and Champs losing

B) Champs take second if they win their game

C) Rova could possible take second if Champ lose with no MoV and Rova's missing MoV is high in their loses and Mynock doesn't win both of their games

D) S&V could win their remaining 6 games to match Champs/Rova. No idea on MoV.

Looks like this is likely down to Mynocks vs Champs for the finish.

Thanks, that make sense. If there's no logfile it's very tough to tell which matchup fits.
