The Scum and Villainy Invitational: The Lists

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

Blair is being opposed to include Smuggling Compartment.

I have a ready Shadow Market module 6.1.1 with it inside. It would allow just a bit of Rebel faction reprieve for my very clearly subpar list assembled together with tape and hope and dreams.

Who wants all the players to get my ready new version just for the sake of seeing that card played out? All I have left at my disposal is a grass roots popular..........rebellion.

Hear hear!

It seems weird to include the other HotR spoiled cards but not that one. Also, it's only not on VASSAL due to an oversight - it's been a known spoiler for a while now.

I see a lot of Palp and NO aSLAM wardens with Sabine conners

Either **** is rigged or rebels are masochistic

There is an email thread where the Captains agreed that Teams Commonwealth and Team Champions can add BMST to their lists in List Juggler. The die has been cast for teams who are already using it.

Speaking for S&V here, we genuinely thought at it was Vassal Legal ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-c80UUe5eEmX4HbT6xUUnXCTbDKhsuuWFZvkCknfu-c/edit?usp=sharing). Oops :-( Here's the real irony: that document that I'm linking above is managed and updated by Muon and I (because of the league play feature of ListJuggler). Either of us could have checked it! D'oh. As we were publishing our lists last night, Antigrapist sent me a bug report -- List Juggler couldn't import the Smuggling Compartment upgrade! I'd messed it up there as well.

Later last night Blair pieced together that the upgrade had been spoiled in Game Trade Magazine and not reported in on an FFG article. Naturally, Geordan had it right in YASB...

Anyways ... we all kind of @#$$'d this one up boys, and we feel bad about it, and we feel its best to move on! Ahoy, mates!

so do we go through the trouble of distributing 6.1.1 to everyone or we just call it a day and slap a small textbox over a back facing mod card?

I don't think anyone is terribly worried about it. It's not like someone is trying to field the Quadjumper with an imaginary dial.

And Mu0n, considering it is only 2 lists, I think the second option should suffice personally.

While talking dumping cargo (possibly from a Smuggling Compartment)...

Is the ruling that the debri will trigger upon being released upon the ships (really messing with a red maneuver) or will it take effect once the ship actually places its manevuer templet on it as it activates in the movement phase?

Good question. I've heard it debated well both ways. Which I think is funny, because this isn't a wave 10 or HotR upgrade. It's one some players already physically have.

Do we have anyone who was judging at Gencon that might have a proper ruling? Was Sable there? All I know is I read somewhere that at Gencon at a wave 9 side event they ruled you get the stress immediately.

I wanted it for cheap TLT. I'd have to lose a ship or go a completely different list archetype.

I am sad for the loss as well.

6.1.1 can wait, you can show that small textbox who's boss!

I remember when shuttles didn't have to come with Palp to be strong. I also remember a time when generic phantom pilots were in the top 32 of worlds! (More than one list!)

Wes, Keyan, and Biggs reporting for duty and ready to rock the wave 3 meta!*

Just give me something that I can actually point my guns at, and I'm good to go! Rawr.

* Some post wave 3 upgrades and pilots may have been smuggled in

MJ of all the lists this was probably the one I was most excited to see. I nearly took the exact list to Regionals after having really good success with it on Vassal, but I started doubting my piloting skills with Biggs and ended up going with another list. I am crossing my fingers for the list to perform admirably and get players thinking about 5 dice full mod Keyan again haha!

I took it out for a spin last night for a vassal league matchup vs Double Scouts and Party Bus and won 100-0. ProTip: Deadeye Scouts don't like getting their focus ganked! Maybe I'll get super lucky and get matched up vs Travis Foss's dual Torp boat list. :D

Sneak preview of next steps for this tournament:

  • Kdubb has taken on the mantle of Tournament Director! Thank you Kdubb, and I'm sorry we press-ganged you into it.
  • Kdubb and I are building out a Challonge setup with Teams and Team Members. Players will self-report and upload their vlog files for Vassal replay, and standings will be updated there as well. We'll turn on public match voting and prediction games so the community can opine. Kdubb will publish the url when its ready.
  • Kdubb and I will be generating a set up of matchups for the teams, gory details below.

So, for the matchups, a few days ago I wrote a brute force algorithm (github) that randomly generates "valid" matchups. Valid matchups are defined as: 0) each player gets 3 games 1) you can't play someone on your own team 2) you can't play another team twice. With 36 players, that means each team is going to play 18 times, and with 5 opponents the natural split of games versus other teams should be 4 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 3.

Because there are a limited number of valid solutions when you brute force it, when you run my algorithm you'll get a bunch of results that don't work. But occasionally it will generate one that does work, and so we've "seeded" the matchings with one of these successful runs.

The run can be found here.

Sometime today Kdubb is going to livecast the the final steps off formalizing the matchups by randomly generating each player's seat assignment in their team.

EDIT: I updated the matchup link in the above write-up. It is now here.

You have the wrong roster for Team Commonwealth. I am in instead of Dodo.

Oops, yeah, fixed, ty

S&V did its part in grabbing up Firesprays!

Mynocks running stresshog? What has the world come too.

Sable gonna run rampant through 2-3 ship lists with his Firesprays.

Is that third tab correct with the pairings? For example, I'm playing Rinehart, Sable, and Joe Desmond?

No. It is a result of whatever random generation originally occurred. Kdubb is about to randomly scramble (in a live google hangout) the actual pairings.
