So, while I don't play a lot, and don't take part in tournaments, I do like to play at home with friends, usually as rebels.

At the moment, I have two A-wing expansions and two B-Wing expansions. I'm still waiting for the Rebel Aces to be localized and released in my country (sure I could always import, but it's more expensive and the English cards would stick out in my collection, and I'm very OCD about this kind of thing.

Ultimately, I want to have four of each A and B wing fighters. So, I'm looking at my options, and they would consist of either: getting two Rebel Aces packs when they are released, or: Getting an extra of each A and B wings, and then a single Aces pack.

I think I like both choices of paint job equally, and it would probably be cheaper to get the aces pack than two separate ships, but not enough to matter, so in the end the decision hinges on the included cards (I do know I can proxy, but let's assume I won't).

The aces pack comes with some pretty good upgrades (chaardan, test pilot). However, the A wing comes with PTL and the B wing with FCS. Based on this situation, what would you guys suggest would be a better choice?

P.S. I'm also pondering over whether to get a second starviper for the extra autothrusters and to play Xizor + Guri, which is both thematic and bears significant synergy. Would you guys consider that a worthy investment?

IMHO I'd say you are probably better off waiting for rebel aces. As you only get 2 copies of the A wing title and 3 of chardaan refit. So if you don't want to proxy. Aces is probably the way to go.

Auto thrusters is a worthwhile investment. Even more so if you manage to use the viper in some lists.

I personally chose to do two A-wing expansions, two B-wing expansions, and two copies of Rebel Aces. The reason was so I would have enough titles and Chardaan Refit cards. I bought two Starvipers so I would have four copies of Autothrusters.

Rebel Aces is much better. Also you'll need two packs of Rebel Aces to get all the "fix cards" for your other As and Bs.

I've been happy with one Starviper/2 Auto: There are very few competitive builds that use more than 2. Triple Aces.

You can simply print out a few extras for casual games, like 5 alphas with Auto.

I had originally bought 2 B-Wings and 3 A-Wings. Then I bought Rebel Aces. This was as they released. About a month ago I finally decide to round it out with another Rebel Aces so I could have 4 B-Wings. I am much happier with that choice based on the upgrade cards.

2/2/2 it is. Double Rebel Aces gives you 4 A-Wing Test Pilots (enough for all your A-Wings), 6 Chaardan Refits (enough for all your A-Wings), 4 Proton Rockets (enough for all your A-Wings, incase you don't want to chaardan refit them), 4 B-Wing E2 (enough for all your B-Wings). Plus you have evenly shared the different paint jobs across all your ships with 2/2/2/2. Win/Win.

I'd go for 2 Rebel Aces for the reasons above.

Then again, if I were in your shoes I'd get RA and put the money into an Imp Aces or something different. I only ever fly a single B-Wing.

You play at home with mates, you can proxy cards! You can't proxy ships.

Just as an update: I ended up getting just one extra of each A and B (beyond the ones I already had). By the time Rebel Aces comes out, if four-A and four-B strategies make sense, I'll get a second rebel aces box; if not, just one box, and I'll have three of each, which should be enough for fun casual play. Oh, and I'll wait for a good discount on the Starviper (if that ever happens) to get a second one.
