Good example fleets for showcasing gameplay

By nparrish1259, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hello all,

I've recently bit the bullet and starting collecting Armada and I"m planning on bringing it out to run a few games for my local gaming group. I've resisted getting Armada for a while but finally broke down when I heard about the Corellian Conflict expansion that's coming out, I'm just a sucker for tracking persistent damage and crew veterancy I guess.

Anyways, long-story short, I'm hoping to sell Armada as a thing we can do as a group regularly in the hopes that we can do some team campaign games. To that end I'm wondering if people have suggestions for some good fleet builds to give a good experience as both a rebel and imperial player. I've got a few ideas but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and I want people to get an idea of how much difference the various upgrades can make. I'm not necessarily worried about being super competitive in a tournament, more about showcasing a few of the different play-styles.

Like I said, I've just started so my collection isn't that extensive yet, I've basically got 1 of everything through the end of Wave 2:

1 Core Set

1 Victory

1 CR-90

1 Nebulon-B

1 Rebel Fighters

1 Imperial Fighters

1 Imperial SD

1 Home One

1 Imperial Raider

1 MC30

1 Rogues and Villains

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You want to start people off with 2 or 4 player games of 300 points per side. Obviously Rebel v Imperial to give a good spread of abilities. New players may get thumped by an MC30 while playing Imperials but then decide they like the look of them and end up collecting a rebel fleet.

Put 2-3 med-small ships a side with 1-2 upgrades on each. pick a bland admiral like Dodonna or Motti rather than a specialised one like Ackbar that can scare the pants off new players. Make sure you have 4+ squadrons a side and equip each side with a dedicated carrier so newbies can see how squadron effectiveness can almost double with a decent squadron command, boosted comms, flight controllers etc.

Avoid tooled up Admonition/Demolisher builds and stay away from large ships initially.

I like 200 point games with these lists to teach people the game.
