Dengaroo

By rawrpandas, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Taking Dengaroo to a store tournament and I was debating between 2 different builds for it and I'd like to get some input. I've already come to my conclusion but I don't want to put any of that here and muddy the waters. I'd like to start from a clean slate and get peoples opinions.

And why?

Thanks.

I understand the "hate Palp" appeal of r5p8 on dengar but after running through it with thane + norra + Biggs and counting some four or more focus, results he couldn't modify or LW, I have to wonder if he would be lasted more than TWO rounds with OCr4

Two focus is cute until you realize that only covers your normal and return attack to say nothing of all the defense rolls you make

That's my indirect experience anyway. Either way you still get rolled by Torp scouts

Dengar always takes Overclocked since he can essentially Glitterstim every turn, which is important when you need to use that focus token a lot, like against swarms.

The first list is much better.

I was leaning towards overclocked r4 due to infinite focus for the same reasons already listed here. I was just hoping to get confirmation. Thanks guys!

No one is running torp scouts in the meta of my area so I'm not worried about that... to go in a different direction though there are some other dengaroos so maybe I should shift and run 3 torp scouts...

Hijacking my own thread and running with the torp boat idea, is this kind of what people are doing these days:

I enjoy the first list more. I replaced Gonk with Rec Spec to avoid Wes and just drop feedback. I mean, I see the point, but it is nice to have the extra focus token...especially when there are a number of ships who like to steal them.

Here is an interesting jumpmaster list I came up with

Kavil leads U-boars (99)

Contracted Scout (33) - JumpMaster 5000

Deadeye (1), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Overclocked R4 (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Contracted Scout (33) - JumpMaster 5000

Deadeye (1), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Overclocked R4 (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Kavil (33) - Y-Wing

Squad Leader (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), Unhinged Astromech (1)

Kavil can easily give up his action so long as a target is outside his arc which allows a focus to a scout that chose to barrel roll, or give a barrel roll to a scout to regain arc, or to help if one bumped. Little less alpha strike power, but I found it can help increase consistency and cover up for some pilot error.

The first list is much better.

From a tournament results point of view both lists have done well. UK nationals for example had 2 of each in top 32. This would not happen if one of the lists was 'much better' than the other.

The first list has some advantages. It's better against aces (r5-p8 on Dengar), 2 focus+glitterstim is less of a handicap than you think and Unhinged on Manaroo makes her much better at running away, especially if you need to go right (3 straight/bank+boost+focus every round)

EDIT The overclockrd trick is also susceptible to Palob/Wes, which might or might not be an issue in your meta.

Ive played against both of those lists a few times each. Ive only lost to the second list. The recon spec manaroo passing two focus to dengar prevents 4lom-ing his focus, and prevents wes from stripping him bare, or palob stealing his only focus. Also, manaroo running around the board is a ***** to chase down, and if they go after dengar they face painbot even out of his arc and dreadded double tap. Keep manaroo running, bring the ships to Dengar's arc. Also, if manaroo gets focused down, recon spec gives her 2 focus for defense, rather than passing them. I think in the 3 games I played with the Gonking manaroo, manaroo regened 2 shields total. Better to Boost or barrell roll to get away then gonk and take shots. Also, manaroo wants unhinged astro. After PTL, you will want go right at some point.

Overclock is good against 4+ ships. With 3 ships, one should be in your arc and may not shoot.

For swarms you always have glitter and countermeasures in the opening exchange.

First one!

I run the second version because if someone is outputting enough damage into your 2 agility ship than ONE shield per turn does not justify foregoing recon spec and unhinged. either way, the list is nasty!
