Sabine's TIE, Buy 1 = Get 2?

By chico2323, in X-Wing

The yellow painted model comes with four pilot cards and two tile sets (the cardboard thing on the base).

This means in theory you could run 2x of these pilots by substituting an original core set TIE Fighter model (assuming the manuever dial is identical which is likely a safe assumption).

Anyone see issues with this?

Issues? Heck no. Sounds like a deal. For both sides of the fence. Imperials can use a coloured TIE in their ranks (give it to Howlrunner, she's already drawing attention) just as well as Rebels stealing a second TIE.

It's a 2 for one sale.

Perfectly legal as far as I can tell. Sabine's TIE is still a base TIE Fighter at it's core. It's just the pilots and titles that make it different.

For example, you could(and in fact had to) fly the Imperial Firespray model with your S&V Firespray pilots. So unless there's a rule that your dial also has to be faction specific, I think it's allowed.

Sorta.

I would hate it if rebel players would just field non-yellow Tie Fighters. But I coudln't do anything about it. Its the same model.

Realistically, if they fielded more than one, they wouldn't be painted the same anyway. As Sabine wouldn't likely paint every TIE the Rebellion steals, and even if she did, she wouldn't paint them the same.

Then please paint them in all colors you like and make them perma-rebel ones.

I wish there was a generic named pilot, like "Imperial Defector" (but with the bullet of unique, so you still couldn't make a Rebel TIE swarm) so you could use with the regular TIE model. Both in Legends and in the new canon most of these famous Rebels pilots were from the Empire once (see Wedge in the 3rd season trailer).

Why would you? Rebels are about deception and guerrilla. Having TIEs exactly like the Imperial one is a most greater advantage.

One of the benefits of a stolen enemy ship is that you can use it for covert missions by pretending to be the enemy.

In fact, that's exactly how they use the thing in the series, which shouldn't work at all given the paint job, but does anyway thanks to the comedic stupidity of stormtroopers.

Sabine's tie seems to have larger struts connecting the panels to the body - at least in the show. Not sure if this will also be present on the model... either way you could just paint one to make it look right!

I really think people are going to do this just to mess with their opponents

I think FFG does not want to cross this line with having Rebel Tie Swarms. It would just be too weird.

Even though it makes more sense to have the rebels in a Tie that looks like the enemy's, I will paint one all white with a rebel symbol on the top of the cockpit.

I agree. Except about the unique part. This ship needs a generic pilot. And if you make him, like, PS4 WITHOUT an EPT, then there's no crackswarms, and his higher cost prevents his usage as a x8 swarm.

Meh. Indifferent here. While in old EU Rebels did field squadrons of TIE Fighters, I'm quite content with the maximum four in the game here... Most of the time the green dice fail anyway and the fighter explodes.

I have a feeling the reverse (crack swarms made up partially/totally of rebel TIEs) will be seen more often :)

What if it has a slightly different dial. (The dial itself will have a different name on it I'm sure.) I'm counting on it...

I, for one, am overjoyed I don't need to paint my TIEs to match my Sabine rebel dial . Doing the checkered pattern was a stretch as it was on the dial, doing so on the TIE's strut sounded beyond challenging to me. Knowing my sons, they'll want more than one of that TIE, since they're fully on board the "Sabine is awesome" train.

All of the upgrades in this expansion are bullitted uniques, aside from VI. Buying a second would only be beneficial for the cardboard ship bases.

That's why I proposed it to be unique (only the name would be generic)... it would make cool missions (like "Rescue the Imperial defector").

One thing no one has mentioned yet - there's no reason to buy more than 2 of this expansion pack - even for epic. Once you have a second copy, you can run all 4 pilots at once, and assuming the dials are the same, use your OT core set TIEs and dials to run all 4 pilots.

2? I would buy 1 maximum...

people already use the red defender for Vessery. The paintjob means nothing.

Only reason you cant technically use the tie fighter for a tie/fo or tie/sf is because the model is different, if only just. Though not sure if anyone would even care lol

Finally I think I would buy one and repaint it as a normal TIE. Maybe add some New Republic markings and print over the namens and artwork of the pilot cards with Wraith Squadron ones.

The point is you need 2 x 2 bases for all 4 pilot sides. . .
