Force-sensitive bounty hunters and rule supplement books

By YariSamurai, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hello fellow force sensitives,

I'm planning to buy this game and play it with my brother and a friend. First question: can you play this game with three players only?

I told my brother how it (moreorless) works and that you could use books from edge and age in this game. He's 10 so he wants the cool things he always dreamed of: a force-sensitive bounty hunter.

So my question is: is that possible, if yes, what supplement book do I need to make him become one?

My last question is: what ar the best FaD rulebooks to make players feel the vastness of the Star Wars universe and the mysteries of the force (right now, I'm hearing the Force soundtrack in my brain).

Thanks in advance,

YariSamurai

Edge of the Empire beginner set and core rulebook one for a good introductory adventure, spare set of dice, the core rule book should have everything you'd need just add the Force Sensitive career for 20xp off the characters initial xp and you should be fine.

You could use any of the 3 core books for your brothers character, they may have slightly different names but the core abilities can be found.

Within Force and Destiny the Seeker book "Savage Spirits" is probably most in the theme your looking for at the moment, but the he core is great too.

What Books do you already have?

1. You can play with 3 Players, but 1GM and 3-5players are best.

2. Force Sensitive Bounty Hunter is possible

3. You only need the EotE Core Rulebook, Take Bounty Hunter Career (EotE Core Rules) and either Force-User in Exile (EotE Core Rules) or Force Sensitive Emergent (AoR Core Rules). To get a really powerful Force-User you should also have the Force & Destiny Core Rules, but that can wait for later.

4. Nexus of Power is the F&D Sourcebook about Places of Power in the Galaxy and the mysteries of the Force, has lots of good Inspiration and so on.

Many of the PC options from Force and Destiny can make great Bounty Hunters: Hunter and Shadow in particular. But with Force Powers available any of the character options work.

This system works particularly well for small groups. Unlike many games it's not essential to have a PC covering standard tropes (Tank, Healer, Sneak, Face, Damage). Instead the game can very easily be crafted to suit the abilities of the group. This system is in its element when characters get the chance to do cinematic things; "these are not the droids your looking for" or "don't get cocky kid" are awesome examples of what can happen.

You can play with 3 player without problems, in fact it is often a better game than with 4 or 5 players (5 players are too much already IMO) because each player has more screen time. If needed you can add a npc to help the group with the sklls, an astromech droid is perfect for this.

The only book you need is the Edge corebook, but getting the other corebooks is good idea. Suggest your brother to choose Bounty Hunter:Gadgeteer and Force Sensitive:Exile or Force Sensitive:Emergent (from Age corebook)

If you want only 1 crb you can find almost all the talent sheets on the beggingforxp website.

For force powers the best bets for a bounty hunter are Sense and Seek.

For the Force book suplement i suggest the Nexus of Power supplement which is full of force related locations and rules.

I also suggest to download Oggdude's generator for creating your characters.

What are the other players playing? For a small group the Edge book suggests Gadgeteer and Smuggler:scoundrel, which are both kinda jack of all trades.

I agree with others that you have a small, but good size to play the game.

I question your use of 'bounty hunter.' Does the young man want an honst-to-goodness Bounty Hunter career, or merely willing to make money by using his other skills and talents to locate any given acquisition? If the former, he can still be Force-Sensitive but will need to spend experience points on additional Force-using career(s). Otherwise, he could be almost any other career (i.e. Executioner from Savage Spirits career sourcebook, or the Aggressor from Force and Destiny Core Rulebook) that collects bounties.

For you, it comes down to an investment in money for resources and time to reference those books. If you want the cheapest and easiest option, use the Force and Destiny Core Rulebook, and have any chosen career also be interested in collecting bounties. Ironically, I'm part of a game of Force-users who do just the same: they gather information about possible Force-users, and track them down for more mentoring or to verify their use of the Force as an ally or threat. It saves the group a lot of headaches because, as bounty hunters, people expect them to ask questions that would trigger red flags to casual passersby...

Thanks, iI think I'm simply making him an agressor, because I don't need to invest extra and my friend can be a (more powerful) force user, too, with the FoD core rulebook.

If both want to be force sensitive, getting F&D core Rulebook is most definitely your best bet. It should be pretty straight forward for him to pick several of the career choices and be a "bounty hunter."

Personal;ly, for a Force using "bounty hunter" type, I'd suggest the Sentinel Career with Shadow as his primary Specialization and the Hunter (from the Seeker career) as a second (out of career) spec with an eye towards one of the new Sentinel specs to be released in Endless Vigil
