Wes Janson and R3-A2

By krazyivan1942, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Help me out why R3-A2 is used on Wes.

Seeing the T-65 has so little green on the dial, does Wes become like a Stress Hog?

How does he work?

Double threat on otherwise mediocre ship. Wes has an amazing ability, and pairing it with some heavy hitters, may skew target priority. With flechette torps, you may have the opportunity to double stress an enemy/ace (provided the hull value is not 5+), and it doesn't cost you 23+ points. It acts as a Biggs+Stresshog in one ship, and normally wouldn't stay long on the board (2/3 rounds) for you to use him for anything else, hence you do not worry much about stress. Hopefully, this should give enough time to Wedge and Jake to get rid of the bigger threats.

This is one of my first lists ever (with later addition of Integrated Astromech and AT):

- Wes Janson (Veteran Instincts, Flechette Torpedoes, R3-A2, Integrated Astromech) 29pts

- Wedge Antilles (Opportunist, R2 Astromech, Integrated Astromech) 29pts

- Jake Farrel (Opportunist, Outmaneuver, Autothrusters, Chardaan Refit, A-Wing Test Pilot) 24pts

---99 pts---

Not really competitive, but it was fun to fly.

Well the opposing ship would start the turn with a focus token and then end the turn with a stress token instead.

He's just a nuisance and straight up ruins some ships plans like ordnance.

When firing Wes, you are not doing it for the damage as much as the interference. So adding a Stress to the mix rubs salt in the wounds. For some ships it is just a nuisance but some ships like Soontir, Poe, Kanan and anyone with ordnance really don't like extra stress as it ruins their main tricks.

I have played a VI Wes with BB-8 for 10 games or so and have found it to be mostly poor. In the games where I was facing a PTL Soontir / Ryad / Dash etc R3-A2 would have been so much better. BB-8 has made a small difference now and then but I believe that R3-A2 could have won me some of the games I lost.

If you only use it 1 game in 3 it's still a cheap option for an extra hit point. And the use in 1 game could be the difference between a win and a loss.

R3a2 Wes is a placeholder for r3a2 gunner braylen :P

We know from your Sig how you feel about ARCs. ;) Braylen makes a better Stressbot caddy but Wes's token stripping is golden. If you have Braylen + Wes, what astromech would you give Wes instead?

Wes doesn't have the staying power of Braylen unless you spend the points on a repositioning modification - at which point he loses Integrated Astromech.

I mean, Brayeln is PS 3 but is 4 points cheaper and can use Tactician or Gunner (depending on the points you have to spend).

FGD is right.

If Braylen called dibs on R3-A2, you give Wes BB-8 to solve the above problem.

R3-A2 on VI Wes really shines when you have Whisper in arc. You cannot cloak when stressed, so Whisper either spends her evade during the attack, and then loses the FCS target lock if she has it, and then she is stressed from R3-A2. Suddenly Whisper cannot mod her attack and she's rolling two defense die vs the rest of your list.

bb-8 sounds fine for getting arc on guys

r4-d6 if Biggs isn't around, but he is so eh

idk about "Staying power" (they both drop like bricks once Biggs is gone) but ito flexibility, Braylen is simply far beyond Wes

that auxiliary arc and r3-a2 are a match made in rebel heaven; the amount of sustained coverage is literally unlike anything we've had access to before
