I'm going to try out another Decimator list -

Decimator - Captain Oicunn + predator + engine upgrade + gunner = 54pts

Tie advanced prototype - Baron of the empire + PTL + title = 23pts x2

But I've been rolling dice and wondering if with the one dice reroll from Predator I'm going to get much value from Gunner. And if not, what do I spend those juicy extra 5pts on?

You might want to think about dropping gunner and swapping to Rear Admiral Chirenaeu.

Why? This will help all of us understand.

Smytus, if your asking why I don't know if I'm going to get value from Gunner it's because with the reroll from Predator it seem to average out at 2 hits at least when rolling 3 attack dice, a lot of the time 3 hits. This suggests that at least 1 hit will get through more often than not, maybe less so on some of the empire pilots, but still a pretty high chance on most others.

This means that Gunner may not be triggering many times in a match and the points could be spent on something that is going to give more value.

This is not at all scientific, just what I have noticed, so I could be way off the mark with it.

With Oicunn and Barons you have all ps4, easier to move. Oicunn is auto damage on overlap he/she causes. Predator is a 50% +1 hit without a focus, 75% with. RAC is less efficient if you have a focus to spend, and if not spending you have a ~50% chance of working his ability, hit/hit/blank is still hit/hit/blank. RAC is probably harder to fly, it's easier to block large high PS ships, and RAC encourages you to get close. I would take Oicunn, ram him down the middle, try to block, get physical, let the Barons work the outside.

Without Gunner you will never hit a ship with high agility and tokens. Hopefully Predator helps you strip a token and then Gunner gives you a second chance to actually do damage.

Well gunner might help with auto thrusters, since you will be using out of arc shots a lot. I would build assuming you will boost always, you want him in the way. You could do title Dauntless, so you can get a focus every turn, and Mara Jade.

It would have to be a multi flip focus, otherwise they shouldn't risk the gunner shot. If they spend and evade to miss 1 hit, they open themselves up for a free follow up. Now at PS4 you shoot pretty late, and if you can focus with Barons you'll burn tokens pretty fast. Meaning gunner can get past a bad roll.

Let's say I drop Gunner and stick with Oicunn. Mara Jade would be more useful with him than on the other Decimator pilots, seeing as he wants to be in range 1 any way. But what about Vader crew? He doesn't have to trigger each time but is a good way of taking down an ace, pushing a crit past the evades and tokens.

Plus the Barons should be doing some of the work as well.

Vader is good against aces, but you won't want to use him against alpha strike lists, it's a trade off. With Oicunn you have some control on aces in that they can't afford to get to close.

Oicunn + Lone Wolf + Gunner might not be bad. 1 point cheaper than predator, works on offense and defense (if you're at range 3).

That being said... Kenkirk + Lone Wolf + Isard + Gunner = 55 pts. Kill all the things, survive awhile.

So this is the list I'm going to run with

Captain Oicunn with Predatir, Darth Vader, Engine Upgrade and Title

Baron of the Empire plus PTL and Title

I hope it does ok, they squad look pretty cool but I'm sure they will burn

Oicunn; determination, Moff Jerjerrod, Ysanne Isard, Intelligence Agent, Dauntless, and Hull Upgrade - 55 points

Ram-ram-ram, use Moff to flip crits down and determination to eliminate pilot damage. Hull upgrade increases the use of these cards. Ysanne gives the evade token. This makes VT-49 survive longer. Then just spice to taste. I like to run with 3 black squadron, crack shot, ties for escort.
