Major explosion

By Green Squadron Pilot, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Apologies if this is obvious.

1. In a game on Vassal yesterday I flipped a damage card and got Major Explosion. Then rolled a dice and scored a crit.

The card says if a hit is scored take another crit and roll again.

Does a crit count or only a hit?

2. On Vassal why do we keep getting the message "illegal move: xyz altered a movement dial"?

Apologies if this is obvious.

The [hit] and [crit] symbols(note these aren't their actual names, they aren't named at all in the rulebook, they're just symbols. 'hit' and 'crit' are just easy shorthand) mean exactly what they are. If something specifies only [hit], it's looking for a [hit], not a not a [hit] or [crit]. Compare for example Asteroids ([hit] or [crit], suffer the relevant effect) versus Debris Fields (on a [crit] only suffer the effect).

In the case of Major Explosion, if you roll a [hit], you deal an additional faceup damage card, resolve it, and flip the original Major Explosion facedown. If you roll a [crit] for it, nothing happens, and you flip the Major Explosion facedown. I'm not sure what you mean by roll again as the card mention nothing about a followup roll after the first one.

Unfortunately that isn't true anymore. The new edition of the rulebook in the force awakens starter actually assigned names to the symbols, which, in my opinion, only leads to more confusion in circumstances like this.

1: note: it's not on a [boom], draw another crit & roll again'. It's just 'on a [boom] draw another crit' then either way, the card flips. And no, a [kaboom] doesn't trigger it.

2: It's because you're changing your dial whilst it's on the main map, so you can tell when someone's changing a set dial. You need to move your dial to your player board before setting it.

You need to move the movement dial to your player board before changing it.

That message shows up when someone modifies a movement dial while it's on the main map. Otherwise, your opponent could change their maneuver before revealing it without you knowing.

Ugh, really? Yeah, that's not very helpful when there's already constantly threads confused about what a Hit means, rules wise...

Thanks for the answers to both questions, guys.

It makes sense now.
