Why Some Update cards limited to one Faction?

By NeonKnight, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

So, I'm loving the game, but....

Why are some update cards limited to certain factions? Example. I just picked up the Imperial Assault Carriers, and noticed via some of the fleet building tools, there was a card titled REPAIR CREWS that the assault carriers can be fitted with. Unfortunately, the only way to obtain this card is to buy the Rebel Transports...which to me is not very fair as I am collecting the Imperial Units, and have no desire to collect units for the opposing faction just to obtain a single card.

Does anyone else find this practice a little off putting?

Yah, but same can be said for the XI7 turbolasers in the Neb-B expansion or the Fighter Coordination Team in the Interdictor pack.

A number of great cards only come with one particular ship.

Short answer: FFG is a business of selling overpriced pieces of plastic and cardboard. If they can bait you into buying packs you don't want, they will. :)

No one in casual play is too concerned if you have the real card or a print out, so its not too restricting.

Yup, I have a stack of lightweight cardstock printouts of cards I use as proxies for home games, and it works really really well. My FFG official stuff usually only comes out at tournaments. Though it's mostly because I have toddler around who has a penchant for ruining nice things. It is funny to see a game of armada being played with empty bases and print out cards though. Oh the things we do for our children.

The other thing is, Armada is still fairly Young in Years... Its entirely possible that said things will either be available as all-in cards for Tournaments... OR, will be Repackaged in other side kits...

Take Leading Shots for example.

Leading Shots was previously only available in the CR90 Box for the Rebels... And its a great upgrade for ISDs.

Not only was it the spring tournament all-in card (and, let's face it, as has been said, if you're interested in actual cards, then you're generally looking at tournaments, because proxies are fine in casuals for the most part)... But the Interdictor has it now, I believe...

XI-7s were only in the Nebulon-B Kit... And its now the Summer All-In card for tournaments... We may well see it in an Imperial kit soon...

Still waiting on some big ones, though - and one of them is very big, as, well, basically - its more expensive... (at least CR90s and Neb-Bs were only $20 kits)

Intel Officer (Neb-B / Victory)

Flight Controllers (Victory)

Soon, Imperial Players will be wanting the Turbolaser Reroute Circuits in the MC30 kit... But a lot of them already have them, as thye picked them up getting Assault Proton Torpedoes from the same kit...

There are others with Questionables, for example... Advanced Projectors are only available in the AFMK-II Kit, but trying to sell them across as an Upgrade the Imperials wants is a tough one... With really only 1 Defensive Retrofit to them, ECMs has its place as of this time .

Patience, basically... They'll come in time.

Cool...good to see I wasn't the only who scratched their heads on this.

Right now, just my Son and I who play, but, the Gamer/Collector in me is doing the "gotta have a full set!" thing.

Thanx for the replies!

I have not been affected by this dilemma, as I have bought at least three of everything since the game released. And yes, 3xBase sets as well. Can never have too many Tarkins.

So long as only one of them gets to drink...

I'd hate to see the state of the world if there was more than one of those :D

We dont need more Drunk Tarkin's. . . we can barely handle the opinions of the one we have now. . .

You know what, I'll amend my statement.

Because I think having a DrunkTarkin as a drinking buddy would be awesome .

You can find individual cards you're looking for on E-Bay. Price depends on what card you want, and sometimes you still might as well buy the ship

Easy: Buy everything :D

Dras Intel Officer is in the Victory too.

I Thought there was another place for Intel officer, but I couldn't work it out! So Thanks for that :D

But there's still a list of cards that have gone that way, or are going that way...

... There's one face-down Officer Card in the Phoenix Home spread - if that card is not Flight Commander, then Flight Commander will be one of those Cards desired mostly by Rebels, but only in an Imperial Kit (the Interdictor).

And I mean, there are some others that are exclusive, but you go, "that's a hard sell to the other side" - like Advanced Projectors. Its only available inthe AFMK-II box.... But expecting Imperials to want it in their one, single, defensive retrofit slot is... a very tough sell.
