Can a player against the same attack, discard more than one defence token to cancel 1 attack die per token discarded?

"While defending, during the Spend Defense Tokens Step, you may discard a defense token to cancel 1 attack die."

• A “while” effect can be resolved during the specified event and cannot occur again during that instance of the event.
