As the topic states, I'm looking for peoples OPINION on the best wingmate for the following decimator build.
Decimator base is : (58) Commander Kenkirk - Lone Wolf, Palpatine, and Isard. This build is actually usually pretty tanky, especially with a single wingmate that can keep distance from the deci so that lone wolf is in effect.
So with that said, I ran this build with a 41 point Whisper (VI, ACD, FCS, Tactician). I did Ok, but not great. Practice runs with it were way more successful. I kept the list at 99 points in hopes that if I ran against a palp aces list or dengaroo list, with PS9 elites, that I'd get to make sure I had initiative so whisper could shoot first for recloak and extra longevity.
What I ran up against was a PS11 Vader that ate me for lunch. So with that being said, PS11 Vader checks in at 35 points (VI, EU, 1x, and ATC), same as standard Soontir. I originally practiced with Soontir, but found I was getting about the same performance with Whisper, if not better, than with Soontir, so I switched. Most of my pre-tourney practice was with Whisper, so I was comfortable with it. What I did find was that small mistakes with Whisper were more costly than the same mistakes with Fel or Vader were.
So my question is: 58 point FatKirk with a 41 point Whisper, or drop my Ace to either Fel or Vader at 35 points, and have 6 points to add some kit back onto Kirk to make him even fatter? Also, pick one, Fel or PS11 Vader.
Wingmate for Kenkirk w/ Isard and Palp.
Wow triple post

Edited by Goseki1You could try this list. Keep Kenkirk very tanky and vader a pain in the ass at all ranges. Could swap adaptability for VI with 100 point "bid" which is fine really as you won't often face PS11 ships and Kenkirks PS isn't hugely important at 6 with regards to initiative.
Great choice by the way. Kenkirk with Ysanne Issard and Palpatine is my favourite core Decimator build.

Countess Ryad. Everytime.
"Echo" (30)
+ Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
+ Outmaneuver (3)
+ Agent Kallus (2)
+ Fire-Control System (2)
She's a strong, independent Phantom and she ain't need no man*.
Alternatively, swap Outmaneuver for Predator and ACD and FCS for SPA and SJ**.
*Unless that man is Agent Kallus.
**Stygium Particle Accelerator and Sensor Jammer.
I get EU on a Decimator, I really do. The build w/ Isard and Palp, however, and EU (I tried it, a lot) is largely wasted. Follow me for a sec.
Deci w/ 1 ace has to do two things. It has to stay in a fight (aka stay alive), and it has to dish out damage. EU is great for getting into a fight, but w/ 1 action a turn, doesn't do anything to increase damage output, or help w/ survivability (best case argument is that it gives you an extra green dice @ R3, which isn't even a thing in the Ordinance Age). Rolling 3 dice, statistically I'm expecting a hit, focus, blank. Lone wolf lets me reroll the one blank, and on that, I have a 75% chance of getting a hit or crit or focus. So after that reroll, I have a 75% chance of having hit focus focus, or hit hit focus. For max damage, I really need a focus token. So to date, my action is almost always best spent taking a focus. Especially since I can use it on defense early if I need to.
Dropping EU from Kenkirk gives me the option of adding EM (for a second TD) and either Ion Projector, or Anti-Pursuit Lasers, either of which can be lethal considering Palp is on board (guaranteeing a hit, if need be).
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like the Ace I need is Vader at PS11.
