Upcoming Ankle Surgery - very soon

I just had to go back and check the calendar. It's not quite been 2 weeks without the boot, but it feels like longer. My PT guy has been solely focusing on getting the swelling down. Yeah, it's swollen and some consider it a lot, but I've seen it so much worse that it doesn't really bother me. Still, swelling does need to go down to improve, so I do care about that. I go 3 times a week, which is nice.

How does it feel, though? Well, it hurts! My PT guy (who is awesome) says that with the boot off and the swelling going down some, the nerve endings are able to communicate better. So...they are able to send pain signals better to my brain. So...it hurts! I do find myself finding ways to move less when I am walking about. Normally, I'd be in the kitchen and rush to grab a plate and grab something from the fridge and then bounce to get a fork. Now...I think about all the stuff that I need nearby that I really need to get so that I walk even that short distance less. It does hurt to walk. It kind of sucks. It is temporary, though.

I overdid it this weekend, especially on Sunday. There was a fall festival and I went with wife and 11 year old. The son is soon to be too cool for such things, so this might be the last year for this type of a thing. He ran around and had an awesome time. I loved it. I stood too much. There wasn't really a place to sit and I didn't think it decent to bring a chair. Also, last night caused me to stand a lot. It's a lot more swollen.

Overall, though, it is easier to walk than when I first got out of the boot. It is getting better. The pain is temporary. It's not as bad as it has been in the past. It will get better. I'm totally fine with it overall.

It does suck that my work moved me to a new building that has me walking a few blocks more. Bastards....

I won't really feel close to normal until January, though. I won't know for sure if it works until the 1 year mark.

Thanks for asking, though!

No pain, no gain. The road towards full recovery is uphill and, sometimes, quite slippery. Sounds well to me. A long way to go, so mantain "Cruise speed" and keep working.
