Rebel Heavy-Hitters: 'Bigg Norra' or 'Corra Jansley'

By Rinzler in a Tie, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Okay, got myself an ARC-170. Love Rebels (all of a sudden) and I am particularly fond of Heaver's Corran/Wes/Biggs list, so I have been trying to work Norra in there.

I originally replaced Corran with Super Norra (99 points):

Norra Wexley

- BB-8

- Push the Limit

- Kyle Katarn

- Alliance Overhaul

- Engine Upgrade

Wes Jansen

- R3-A2

- Veteran Instincts

- Integrated Astromech

Biggs Darklighter

- R4-D6

- Integrated Astromech

Then decided to go all-out on offensive and replace Biggs instead (100 points):

Norra Wexley

- Adaptability

- Recon Specialist

- Alliance Overhaul

Wes Jansen

- Veteran Instincts

Corran Horn

- Veteran Instincts

- Fire Control System

That's a lot of bare ships, and dice, for that matter, but 2 PS 10s and the brick-**** house, Norra, to follow Jansen's ability (plus Horn's double-tap). Obvioulsy these pilots fly and die together, but if aimed properly, I really think this list could remove one ship every other round (12+ respectfully modified red dice and 9+ of those after a token is stripped).

A list cannot solely lean on its PS bid, and FFG has repeatedly costed Rebels relatively high, so I'm not sure I can have my cake and eat it, too. Is this list too skin-and-bones?

What would you change? Which list should I work on?

Arc stuff:

At 1 agi and low speed, ARCs are stupidly, tragically fragile. Bring Biggs

ARCs spend an inordinate amount of time firing from the aux arc. The front guns are basically ornamental after the initial joust

The aux arc does jack Crap damage without tail gunner. Tail gunner (or normal gunner with r3a2) is AUTOINCLUDE

Even with Tail gunner, you'll bounce off a single evade token. Norras ability is about the only way not to

Norras ability doesn't always add a fourth hit. Sometimes its just guaranteed 3/2 hits. After a while against certain opponents (esp aces and x7s) you just keep her ability for defense unless you roll all hits + focus because they're basically guaranteed to dodge any less. With r2d2 and her defensive ability, though, she can last a while. 1v1 its easy to run the clock and win on points

Norra needs NEEDS PTL to set up her ability consistently. The aux arc and dial makes the stress limitation essentially negligible

Without r2d2, norra will just collapse to even pitiful amounts of sustained damage and probably die in two rounds to any halfway competent list . Aux arc and dial lets you run Regan and still maintain fire

Both vectored thrusters and engine are nice, pick whichever you have room for

It's not Heaver's list. If I remember correctly, Dan Hars is the one that brought it to the spotlight.

As for your list, the ARC hasn't triggered lust for me yet. I was more thinking of swapping Corran for PS9 Poe with BB-8, push, and the title. That mix is glorious at dealing with all the TL lovers that live at PS8 and under. I've swapped Biggs with Ezra to some success too, he's a surprisingly good blocker and quite hard to kill.

Sidebar: I watched this:

It's the GenCon top four match between the Heaver/Hars list and three Autoblaster Turrets. Not a great showing of the list but also a testament to the damage it can put out. Clearly not enough in this case.

Back to Norra. Clearly she is the pilot to take of all of the ARC-170s, right? Her high(ish) PS and ability make that obvious.

If we assume the following are auto-include:

- R2-D2

- Tail Gunner (because who has 5 points for Gunner in a Rebel list? - thanks, FFG)

- Push the Limit

Norra is at 38 points. I prefer Engine Upgrade (bringing to 42). That's a ton for a small-based ship, but I'm determined to make this work.

I agree that Biggs is required. Everyone knows we can get Biggs for 26 points, bringing our list to 68 points.

That leaves 32 points to work with. Options:

- Wes Jansen with R3-A2 and Veteran Instincts

- x2 Bandits with Concussion and Guidance Chips

- Help...?

And a crazy one:

- "Dutch" Vander with BTL-A4 (optional), Autoblaster Turret, R7-T1, Plasma or Proton Torps., and Guidance Chips

the actual "ARC to take" imo is Braylen (Stressmule) because his ability to abuse the crap out of r3-a2 is unmatched by any ship in the game

but he doesn't match your list, so eh

Norra is actually really great, but Miranda kinda steps on her toes. The times during which Norra is superior (range 1) is a lot harder to get than the time Miranda is superior (range not 1). Norra does have a far better match-up v Dengaroo, but otherwise there's not much Miranda struggles against. Neither enjoy torpscouts

so...Wes is the winner there

if you want damage, Norra can provide but so can LRS homing missiles + extras Miranda (5 fully modified dice, no range bonus no evade token :o )

I agree that Braylen I think is THE 170 pilot of choice given his R3-A2/tactician combo. I am working to get a list that will work, but I think we are a HotR away from getting it to be full potential.
