A title for generics?

By Storgar, in X-Wing

As a way to bring generics into play more.

Small ship only title

When flying at R1 of a friendly ship from the same squadron you may re roll 1 die in attack or defence per round.

This could be free as the benefit has limitations, being range and needing another generic of the same squad. This is also thematic as squadrons would have trained together all the time and be better as a team.

Some of the ships that already have a more powerful title would not use it but all those ships that get left in the dust would get a boost which could encourage players to make flying squadrons viable.

Or maybe as a Dual Card so that it is attack on one side and defence on the other.

This would be very interesting for Rebels where they have the same Squadron name across different ships.

You are proposing to invalidate both Howlrunner and Serissu completely- as that is basically both of their pilot abilities in one upgrade, without having to pay for the cost of their PS8. Unless the title is expensive, which would stop it from being useful because the major point of generics is to fit more of them in for less points, this be a bad idea. Even with the caveat of making it squadron-dependent, you're looking at the possibility of 8 Academy pilots, or six Black-cracks, or 8 z-95s all with rerolls. A benefit to swarms, but not likely the boost to other squadrons.

Not remotely. I'd LOVE this in games with Howlie. Getting an AP or crack swarm with two offensive and one defensive rerolls sounds amazing. Too amazing. I'd go so far as to say broken, possibly.

dice resolve nothing

add some guarantees

It's a flat reroll buff with no counterplay. Not a particularly interesting solution.

If PTL Arc Dodgers are less frequent due to the numerous things in Wave 9 (and before), then we can see the return of the generics. The new PS to beat is PS 3 for U-boats.

Most small base generic ships need a buff that is as drastic as this one. The idea of making it a duel card was creative. One side for defense, the other for offense. Just needs one additional limitation cause of those Tie fighters.

"may only equip on ships with less than 3 agility"

Buffs for the Starviper and E-wing could be a separate fix, like the titles for the Defender.

Maybe a defence title for ships with less than 3 agility and an offence title for ships with less than 3 attack.

It could be a 1 die re roll or it could be a change 1 focus or maybe change 1 blank to a focus.

In any case I think the R1 limit would be good to apply and it has to be to a ship of the same squad so you are not just using one as a filler but building around a squadron.

It could have a 1 point cost but any more than that would probably just not make it worth while.

TIE Swarms for the win?

I think it would be over powered. FFG has a handle on this game. The factions play very differently from each other and some people are having trouble adapting to that. No one faction is better. Play and swap builds (IE play each other's list) it makes the games more fun and may just change some opinions.

Maybe some unique Red and Gold squadron title as well as some unique Black Squadron Titles for X-wings Y-wings and TIE Fighters. FFG could you make a Battle for Yavin campaign please?
