Deadeye: Worth Removing From The Game?

By Firespray-32, in X-Wing

You're not going to be able to run Palp Aces with the new shuttle that has the coordinate action. Because that shuttle costs 8 more points than a Lambda. And that means a lot fewer upgrade points left over for those 2 aces, making them exponentially less potent.

Not sure that's the correct use of exponential but hey.

We don't actually know the generic cost of the new shuttle but it's worth remembering that the Lambda in the most common PalpAces variant is upgraded with a Sensor Jammer. You lose a bit from the aces, yes: that's called balance. You need to make up for it with the firepower of the Upsilon and by working that Coordinate action.

That, or don't run Palpatine. Sure, it's not PalpAces then, but aces are still better with good support.

Well, the upgrades make the Aces exponentially more effective, so removing them does the opposite. Think how much more dangerous Soontir is with SD and AT compared to a naked Soontir. Take one of those upgrades away and he becomes a LOT less dangerous.

And I'm basing the point spread on the difference between the two PS 6 shuttles. Col Jendon is PS 6 and 26 points, Kylo at PS 6 is 34 points. So it's not a stretch to guess that the PS 2 generic of the Upsilon Shuttle will cost 29 points compared to OGP's 21 points.

Depending on the dial Whisper + Kylo might be a thing, 4 attack dice primary are a lot stronger than 3 attack dice. OL, Inq fits just fine iirc, both PS 8 like a VI-Kylo Ren. ;-)

Given Whisper is a non-reactive arc dodger Coordinate's PS limit isn't going to burn her as badly.

I really can't wait to run whisper with the new shuttle. To be able to give whisper a free action is going to be awesome sauce. She wants that evade action, and leaves her her own to focus, or cloak and run, or even barrel roll before she moves.

The new shuttle dial will make or break the build

If it's 29 points base, then you still have enough for a Defender.

You're not actually sacrificing much to do this. What you gain with coordinate, the dial buff, the attack buff, and health buff in the shuttle more than makes up for that.

Defenders don't actually benefit much from high PS, I run a PS 6 Vessery in my Palp Aces and it does serious work. You're doing a 4K-Turn every turn anyways, doesn't matter if it's at PS 10 or 1 lol.

Without Deadeye id venture to guess that Missiles/Torps will fall short in the competitive scene again. Gamma Squadron Vets, etc, will be sad without it. The difficulty of Ordnance is still the requirement to fire, tjat being for most of it, requiring a TL on the ship you want to shoot. Makes it so so hard to win against any list with higher PS, as you cant reliably get the range you want, especially when the enemy can boost. Then there's the whole "get blocked by lower PS issue" that also makes Ordnance rough to use.

Of course, LRS is at least useful to make 3 of the Ordnance platforms pretty useful! So, maybe it won't whole-Lysol disappear if Deadeye also disappears.
