Will we ever see a Clone Wars wave?

By Forresto, in Star Wars: Armada

Now I know the prequels are a derisive issue for Star Wars fans anywhere, this is not a thread to discuss the quality of the prequel trilogy. However, and I think we all can admit this, the best part of that trilogy and television series were the massive space battles. The Clone Wars were big and also fascinating partly due to the equal footing both sides. Plus the ship designs are fantastic.

Eventually the well is going to run dry on the Galactic Civil War since Rebels cannot add too many more big ships due to it's nature as a prequel (Otherwise it's like why werent they at Endor or other major battles?), books are not visual, and the new movies haven't been doing much with new ships besides the Resurgent class. Im talking long term after we get the rest of the OT capital ships and fighters.

Gameplay alone could be really fascinating especially due to the diverse natures of the Separatist and Republic fleets. They would of course be done to the scale of the current Armada ships.

Republic Capital Ships:

Consular-class cruiser

Arquitens-class light cruiser (coming to Armada)

Pelta-class frigate (coming to Armada)

Stealth Ship

Acclamator-class assault ship

Venator-class star destroyer

Republic Squadrons:

Jedi Starfighters (Both AotC and RotS variants)

V-19 Torrents

Y-Wings

Z-51 Headhunters

ARC-170s

V-Wings

Separatist Capital Ships:

Munificent-class star frigate

Recusant- class light destroyer

Techno Union Vessel

Providence- class dreadnaught (basically the venator equivalent)

Lucrehulk- class

Subjugator- class heavy cruiser (Malevolence class. Huge but if these ships are to scale with Armada then more doable then Executor)

Separatist Squadrons:

Vulture Droid

Tri-Droid

Hyena Bomber

Rogue- class starfighter

Fan Blade

Umbarran Starfighter

There's a lot of potential here. I want them to stick with the Original Trilogy for a bit more but I hope down the line FFG considers doing a Clone Wars variant of Armada.

I hope so.

It is possible the question is will it be compatible with existing waves and if so which existing faction gets the new factions?

I hope they will... I love the venator

The ships yes, the faction no because I want a focus on the two factions we have now.

Republic --> Empire

Seperatist --> Rebels

We alreadys saw Imperial Venators at the end of RotS

Seperatist ships have featured as rebel ships in the old legends EU... and in FFG's material I believe.

I think design wise they fit both factions nicely. More wedges for the empire, more cucumbers for the rebels

Nope. Everything FFG has done recently is from Rebels on forwards, and that also seems to be Disneys focus. I believe we won't see anything from the prequels, and very little from the Clone Wars, if anything.

I would like entire separate factions. I probabky won't see it.

If we take inspiration from the "refitted" ARC-170 in XWMG, we can guess that we would see some expansions that are refitted or just the rare survivors that lasted until the Civil War era. Apprenrly there is a surviving droid ship called Rebel One that looks like a droid ship mated with a Mon Cal engineer. I would expect that one

Never for the factions, but Disney and FFG seem perfectly happy to move the ships and technology forward to be used by the Rebellion and the Empire where it makes sense.

I would love to see both factions come in for more play but i think just bringing in refits for some ..... no all but some ships would help expand the ship numbers for. If we keep seeing early ships in Rebels we may get several prequel ships. We all know Disney's not above milking a cash caw and in this case it can only help us.

Given that the Imperial Light Cruiser was, during the Clone Wars, the Arquitens-class used by the Republic (not to mention that the Victory was itself in use prior to the Civil War), arguably we're already seeing the use of Clone Wars era ships. The question is therefore (as several people have pointed out) whether we will see the factions, and I do think this is unlikely - the Republic can be and is being tied in as the predecessor of the Empire, but the Rebels are far from the inheritors of the Separatists, so it doesn't work as neatly as it does for the First Order and the Resistance. This would mean creating an entirely new pair of factions that cannot cross over (or at least cannot cross over easily) into those we already have, nor would they fight against one another in the period in which the game is set. I think FFG is unlikely to do that.

I can, however, see a wave that might be something like a "Relics of the Clone Wars" set of ships and squadrons, particularly for the Rebels, who retrofitted older technology in the absence of their own extensive ship yards. X-Wing has already got the ARC-170, which I think would make a fun addition to Armada's squadrons. The Venator-Class might also find a nice place amongst a Rebel fleet; since many Venators were simply left to drift in space and recovered, there could be scope for several being commandeered by the Rebellion and offering a solid, front-arc support to the Liberty. I'd certainly welcome such a move!

Pelta too, for the Rebels, and the CR90 Corvette. And the Y-Wing and Headhunters (albeit in slightly different models).

A "CW-themed fleet" can basically already be done, for them - once Wave 5 comes out. Dodonna, Bel Iblis, and Mon Mothma were all present in the CW era.

You're 100% right. Would certainly be a fun fleet to play!

I'm thinking of course we will, but it won't be Republic and Separatist factions. It will probably be like "The Empire found an old Venator!" so it'll be an Imperial Venator.

Maybe the rebels will find Grevious's ship that has that big Ion Cannon. Or whatever. Basically I think it's a big YES for the ships themselves, but from the standpoint of them now being old, so less powerful overall than modern ships.

I keep hoping that besides the first order, other imperial factions still exist. And that more "rebel cells" pre Rebel Alliance had capital ships. And they get some Screen time quick!

I can see a ground combat game based on the clone wars (think Flames of War), but as for Armada, probably not. FFG rails pretty hard against the prequels. In fact, the game I just described, if they ever do it, will most likely still be set in the same time period Armada is in

TRENCH!

I'd be happy either way, be it that they bring the ships to the games existing factions or they create two new factions. Though what might be interesting is if they add the two new factions they include 1 Ship card for either the Rebel or Imperial version of the ship representing the refit or re-purposing of what to them would be older tech. It would just allow them to have the Republic and CIS to have ships fill necessary roles for the faction while the refit versions for the Rebels or Imperials are different and allow for having a different fleet role such that it doesn't compete with existing ships.

You mean imperial assault?

Yes, Wave 8 introduces two new factions: The Galactic Republic and the Separatists. It will initially feature:

Core Set (Trade Federation Droid Command ship, Droid Fighter squadrons, Consular-class Cruiser, Acclamator-class Assault Ships, and V-Wings)
Droid Battleship (same sculpt as Trade Federation Droid Command Ship)
Banking Clan Frigate

Separatist Fighters Pack (2x Droid Fighters, 2x Droid Tri-Fighters, 2x Geonosian Fighters, 2x Techno-Union Starfighters)
Acclamator-Class Assault Ship (expansion)
Consular-Class Cruiser (expansion)
Republic Fighters Pack (2x V-Wing, 2x Jedi Starfighter, 2x Jedi Interceptor, 2x ARC-170)

Wave 9 onward will (typically but not always) feature one ship for each of the four factions, with squadron packs being split faction products (Imp & Reb squads together, Rep and Sep squads together, a la Rogues & Villains)

...translation: don't ask people who know the same amount you know (read: NOTHING) questions about future stuff

No, I think they're more along the massed-battle rather than -fight indoors skirmish- thing.

I don't mind ships that exist between both eras but I don't really want to see Clone Wars stuff. The entire era is too mared by the prequels. Plus, isn't there a whole slew of new movies that FFG can take information from? Like that movie that came out last year?

New stuff that people generally like or old stuff that people usually make fun of? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

The prequels were less than stellar, but the CW cartoon actually redeemed VAST amounts of it. It was so superior to the movies that it actually got me engaged and LIKING the clone wars era. If you are looking at the CW era with just the prequels, there isn't much to love. But the show was so good I will be disappointed if I can't at least partially revisit that time period with Armada.

For myself I did like the Prequels irregardless of what's been said about them and if we can more ships added to the Armada range then I'm all for it.

For me there is love for the Prequels.

I'm a Star Wars fan and that includes everything from the Prequels to Force Awakens from the Clone Wars to Rebels.

Except there is hardly any new stuff from Force Awakens. The FO use tie fighters and the Resistance X-Wings barely look that different. The only new stuff is the Resurgent class star destroyer which we won't get until we have an equivalent resistance/new republic capital ship and Kylo Ren's shuttle.

Honestly the problem with the new trilogy stuff is since its so similar to the OT then the squadron pieces are going to be tricky. If they simply keep the same tie and x wing mold but in a different color we're basically getting Armada risk.
