So say I have a ship with 0 shields on the forward 2 shields on port and star. My friend rolls 4 into my forward hull. Now can I use a redirect to move two dmg?
We have been playing if you have no shields than a redirect cannot move dmg. But I am not sure that is correct anymore
Redirect Question
Redirects allow you to transfer damage to an adjacent hull zone that has remaining shields. Whether the targeted hull zone has shields or not is irrelevant. So in your example, you could spend a Redirect and shift two damage to port or starboard (but not both).
The idea behind it, I believe, is that your Redirect is really letting you shift the shields from one facing to protect against incoming fire ("Switch all power to front deflector screens. Switch all power to front deflector screens."), but having you move them from right to front and then allocate damage to the front is an unnecessary step.

thanks
There is a crit (Capacitor Failure) that makes it work this way (can't redirect from a hull zone with no remaining shields), but Reegsk is right that normally you're not restricted like that.
Yep. And there's a Turbolaser upgrade (XI-7 Turbolasers) that restricts you to Redirecting only one point of damage. There are also a few upgrades that let you transfer to more than one arc. But these are all clearly explained on the upgrade cards, so don't worry about that too much.
Although, the first few times you use XI-7s, be sure to remember them! I played two rounds at a tournament and forgot I had them.

This card came up and we looked at each other like well guess we have been doing that wrong all along. That is why I came here and asked the question.
