Two versions of X wing builds

By UnarmedCrayon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello all. I have two similar builds here. One I have used and liked, the other is a bit more aggressive, but I fear protection with Biggs will be limited.

First Version -

Poe - VI, R5-P9, AT

Biggs - R2-D2, IA

Wedge - Adaptability, Plasma Torps, BB-8, GC

2nd version -

Poe - VI, R2-D2, AT, Weapons Guidance

Biggs - R4-D6, IA

Wedge - Adaptability, Plasma torp, BB-8, GC

The original is very defensive with two regens. Biggs lasts a very long time in dog fighting. Although I have not faced any alpha strike lists with this list. Local meta is all about different versions of Imp Aces / Palp. Which is why PS 10 on the two aces seems to work well. Poe always feels a bit weak offensively compared to Wedge. That torp shot is rough, can one shot an opposing ace with Biggs covering early game.

Thoughts? Opinions? There is a summer tournament coming up, thinking of seeing how far my x wings can go.

#2, definitely. Biggs will be taking too much fire for r2 to be effective. I'm not too sure about the plasma torps on Wedge though. The odds of getting enough damage (4 + plasma torp effect) to kill an opposing Biggs on an unmodifed attack is next to impossible, especially as most Biggs will have R4-D6. I would instead take ptl, for bb8 ptl shenanigans, or predator, for more damage output. As for the ps issue, you could drop weapons guidance on Poe for a 2 point initiative bid. Anyway, good luck and have fun!

except the problem with #2 is WG is really not worth the cost at all and poor wedge is getting screwed with that set-up

unmodified plasma torps (even with GC) are no bueno. need to find a way to get PTL on him stat

so knock Poe down to r5-p9

ok, thus far biggs has always survived several rounds, and regen helped that. and plasma torps have been effective. But I like the idea of PTL with BB8 on Wedge. 3 actions with no stress at the end feels like he could surprise people. The only thing I really would give up is assured PS advantage for both ships as this would be 100 pts and dropping more feels like it would weaken it too much.

Version 3 -

Poe - VI, R5-P9, AT - 37 pts

Biggs - R4-D6, IA - 26 pts

Wedge - PTL, Plasma torp, BB-8, GC - 37 pts

I really like Wedge having torps, gives him a big punch that makes people nervous. I've had them try and bump / dive into range one to avoid the torp hit and end up taking multiple range 1 rolls. But i really do like the PTL suggestion on him. That should open up the options for ensuring those torps get launched. ( Generally they get launched in initial joust to ensure no wasted points)

As pointed out, Weapons Guidance is junk on Poe because you want to keep his focus for defense.

I'd drop Poe's VI to Adaptability to upgrade that torpedo to a proton torpedo if you want to keep a torpedo on Wedge; you're better off with the additional modification unless you're just consistently fighting opponents with 4+ shields.

As pointed out, Weapons Guidance is junk on Poe because you want to keep his focus for defense.

Not quite true.

As long as Biggs is alive, there is NO reason for Poe to keep his focus token for defense. Weapon Guidance makes total sense when running Poe alongside Biggs. Its two points that will likely score you an extra damage per game. Not quite as good a return as say, crack shot, but a) it doesn't use your EPT slot and b) it might actually help deal more damage than that if you're lucky...
