Hi everyone, I'm new to the game and I have the core set and hoth expansion.

If I want to play in a tournament, using the current 3 maps, what expansions/characters do I need to purchase to mark skirmish maps?

Nelvaanian War Zone : expansion/set ? AVP Character ?

Training grounds : expansion/set ? AVP Character ?

Mos Eisley Cantina : expansion/set ? AVP Character ?

The last one is the Dianoga map. Something landfill nowadays. Bantha rider pack.

So is Mos Eisley still being used, or did the last one change to Coruscant Landfill?

It changed. They rotate them out a couple times year. See newest tournament rules.

Currently, that's correct. Twins has rotated. Should probably expect another rotation before Worlds that will require Bespin tiles, though.

FWIW: if you're just going to a local tournament you probably don't have to personally own all the products. Just bring the tiles from your Core Set (and Hoth if you have them) and that should be more than sufficient. Most tournaments I've been to that aren't at big events like Gen Con are very friendly to newcomers (I mean Gen Con was friendly but it was for more experienced players too). There should be enough players with tiles and map guides that there won't be a problem building a map for every 2 player.

You might check with the tournament organizer if you want to be sure, but between Core & Hoth you have all the tiles that are needed to build any of the maps in rotation anyway.

When do you think the next map rotation will take place?

I'd say Octoberish, in time for worlds. Seems to be every 3-4 months, and the last two were early Spring and July.
