=THE NEXT ARMADA EVENT ON VASSAL= TOP 8 MATCH-UPS AND FLEETS

By doobleg, in Star Wars: Armada

Greetings, Admirals!

First off, I'd just like to thank everyone for playing in this tournament. I know it's not easy scheduling a game with someone half-way around the world, and I'm really happy to see so many of you taking part and enjoying yourselves with these soon-to-be-released toys. :D

The regular Swiss rounds have come to an end, and it's time to see who's made the top eight cut. The first seven players were the top scorers in the tournament. The eighth spot goes to the player who scored the highest MoV in their round four match.

Here are the players that made this tournament's top cut:

  1. MattShadowlord
  2. WhatsArmadaWithYou
  3. pt106
  4. Matt Antilles
  5. Ginkapo
  6. Skycake
  7. Gowtah
  8. Daht

Congratulations to you all!

The final standings for the tournament can be found on the second post of the sign-up thread. It was very close in the top 12, with players missing out on the cut by only a couple of points. Last round match-ups were unfavourable for some players, and the resulting ties or forfeits may have cost some players their place in the top cut. Unfortunately, with playing Vassal Armada on a global scale being what it is, these things do happen, but to anyone so affected by this I apologise.

Now!

The players listed above are entitled to create a new fleet that will be used for the remainder of the tournament. I shall create a new thread that they, and only they, may post in, so that we might all bask in the magnificence of their fleet builds.

They'll have until Monday August 22nd 1200 GMT to post their fleets, at which time they will be paired randomly with another top cut contender. They will have one week to schedule their game. The winners of these games will then be paired off again, and then the next two winners will face off to see who is the best player in this, THE NEXT ARMADA EVENT ON VASSAL!

VIVA ARMADA!!! :D

In the end though, I only have myself to blame; if I had played better I could have finished higher. It was fun to mess around with new stuff and try some crazy fleets!

Yeah, two of those "could not play" concessions resulting in byes for other players put me out of the top 7. It's rather frustrating tbh. I understand the difficulties of scheduling, but that doesn't change it being frustrating. I'd rather people just not sign up if they can't commit to getting games played.

Being that this has been going on for what, 2+ months now, some people have things that change in their schedules

Well, I made it halfway to the top 7, being number 14. Three more tournament points between me and posterity!

Thanks for the tournament Doobleg - well done to the 7, and particularly to number 8!

Doobleg,

Thanks for making my first ever Armada tourney fun to play in! I may have finished last, but you haven't heard the last of me...

Doobleg,

Thanks for making my first ever Armada tourney fun to play in! I may have finished last, but you haven't heard the last of me...

8th!

I never expected to get this far and whilst I nashed my teeth much like JJ last night (needed to play a game to earn the points I needed to make 7th but to no avail) I feel the result is tough but fair. I'm not a finals-level player (yet!) and so even I have to applaud the MoV cut concept.

But I want to make it now more than ever! So if one of the Jedi Masters/Dark Lords ever wants to donate a few hours to a Here's How You Up Your Game session I'd be very grateful please!

Lastly, and most importantly, Doobleg: thank you and wow. The logistics of running this thing (not to mention the hours you spent trying to get me and doubtless others opponents multiple times!) and your attitude (friendly and helpful and encouraging) combined with a cool concept and a great tournament. Thank you so very much indeed.

To the Final Eight: good hunting!

Doobleg, many thx for organizing, really a great tourney and an enthralling mode!

Would have so loved to make the cut, but not good enough. I am short only a few points, but earning them is tough and it doesnt feel like I belong to those glorious seven in this tourney.

Good luck, all of us will surely follow very closely.

I was going to be happy to have placed in the top half, never thought I'd make it to the final 8! Been an incredibly fun experience. Thank you Doobleg for all you've done to make this tourney what it's been!

May the dice be with you!

You will get there! It is not easy to make it to the final table level of play. So many tips and tricks need to be learned. I know you can get there! The guys on vassal are ruthless at times so you gain a ton of experience through them.

Skycake, you may concede now with honor intact. Top eight is a splendid achievement.

Otherwise, what you doing this weekend?

Palpatine called this morning, said he had foreseen my victory, that winning was my destiny, and something something dark side! So I'm feeling pretty good about that... I think this weekend during night time mst after 2000 is good.. can play over two nights if need be

Also, insignificant rebellion

Battle of the Matts! Cool.

I think this will be a very challenging round. Someone asked me a couple weeks ago what I think would be most likely to put an end to my old fleet's Reign of Terror, and I replied a Mon Mothma MC30 list with higher activations and lower bid.

And here it is, with a perfect 1 point extra bid. Well played, Matt Antilles :D

Right, we have a 7 hour time difference. Whats the latest you can play if you want me to get up at the crack of dawn?

Why do me and Sky keep matching up so often....?

Why do me and Sky keep matching up so often....?

Probably because you are both significantly above average players. One of you just needs to learn to play worse and the problem will solve itself.

I've been working on SkyCake... My Red-Die-Hell hasn't rubbed off on him yet... :D

WhatsArmadaWithYou v. Daht kicking off on Vassal in a few minutes!

I can confirm that this is a real thing that is actually happening!

I fell just short of repeating my 506-0 from last round by about 700 points.

Grats WhatsArmadaWithYou :)

Konstantine with no g-8 is no Bueno vs demsu :)

Daht's the way the space-cookie crumbles. Congrats, WAWY, and well done Daht for making the top 8. :D

Hello. Wish this post was TLDR? Click here for a longer write-up! With pictures!

WAWY vs Daht is complete.

WhatArmadaWithYou (219 + 30) defeats Daht (8+45) for a score of 9 - 1, MoV 196.

Obj: Dangerous Territory

Obj tokens claimed: WAWY 2, Daht 3

Initiative & 1st Player: WAWY 385 vs Daht 400

Deployments: WAWY 8 vs Daht 4

Fleets: Click here.

Konstantine the Constipator's ISDII 2xVSD 3x Tractor Beam fleet couldn't slow my DeMSU+Squads list down enough to keep my small-base ships within his punishing front arcs. Nor could he stop them from screaming in from the flanks (He did however use Konstantine's ability quite well to strip Nav tokens and cause Demo to overshoot when it wasn't opportune). My numerical deployment advantage allowed me to deploy my GSDs and RDR after Daht's ships were all down. I deployed in a lotus blossom formation (total war, anyone?) from which my ships spread out to flank and envelope the lumbering VSDs. My activation (5 vs 3) and squadron advantage (93 vs 28 pts) proved advantageous versus Daht's fleet. He was at the mercy of my black-diced Aggressors (w/IG88), Dengar, and Tie/Adv which began to harass him early. And after his Star Destroyers moved I was able to slide in my intel officer-carrying GSD1, Punisher, unopposed to rain death the following turn.

It was a great game but I'm too tired now to write up anymore. Go to my WAWY's IMGUR page if you want to read and see more. I promise to post pics of my now completed and finished squadrons sometime before Wave 5 hits.

Looking forward to the next phase of Doobleg's master plan!

Thank you, Daht, for a great game!

PT106 vs Gowtah starting now.

PT106 vs Gowtah ended in Gowtah victory (167-167, so 5-5 0 MoV)

We played Hyperspace assault with me as a first player and Admonition waitng in a hyperspace. Gowtah wisely deployed far away from my main force and started to fly transports away while preparing Yavaris bombers double tap.

Admonition went out of a hyperspace at the end of turn 2 doublearcing my ISD1. I decided to eat it and to try to trap Admonition on asteroid by tractoring her, however a skilled use of first officer saved the day and together with bombers double-tap brought a lot of hurt to my ISD (At the end of the round it was left at no shields 3 hp and no brace/contain) and killed my Gozanti with some bomber activations. So.. instead of trying to save it I activated a second ISD first and managed to kill Yavaris and one of the transports with double front shot. I lost ISD1 that turn and started the hunt for transports. By the end of the game I killed another one and forced Dodonna to fly off the board, so in the end I lost ISD1 and Supressor while killing Yavaris and 3 of 4 transports (Dodonna, Leia and Adar Tallon). To our mutual surprise the score ended up being even, so Gowtah won as a second player.

It was a pleasant game with a lot of twists and a good opponent.
