For some crazy a** reason I like this guy. I think for 23 points you can give him the /x1 title and FCS, so as long as he shoots every turn he can use his ability. Just thinking with the propensity of big ships currently, being able to turn hits to crits could be a good thing.
Is there space for Lt Colzet in the current game?
He can only use his ability against ships with cards assigned, though. plus, without ATC he won;t have the damage output of an ATC X1. (which is adding crits anyway) - I think for the 1 extra point, I'd take the extra damage output per turn to the chance of getting a direct hit when flipping a card.
Still - it might be a fun alternative when you're really tight on points.
He'll make a potent combo alongside Kylo Ren.
Edited by Vargas79I've only used Colzet so far in epic play, and his designated job was to annoy/annihilate the Rebel corvette alongside the Raider. I knew the damage cards would be stacked by the time he fired so it worked beautifully.
Having said that... yeah... There is a place for Colzet but he's so niche that it's hard to justify. He works wonderfully against the Ghost and other ships that run around with stacks of damage cards on them, but Colzet is never going to be the one piling on the damage cards. He's a support role and priced as such. I was theory building a double Glaive list with Colzet running along behind, but I don't think I'm actually skilled enough to succeed with it.

This is sort of where I was going with the Colzet idea. Pretty much have Vessery and Ryad in /x7's. With Dengaroo lists, double Lothal etc I though a pesky PS 3 Adv TIE could hopefully flip over some beneficial crits ie blinded pilot or direct hit. would be great if you got something like Major explosion, chance for another free crit.
So....it depends on what you mean by "a place".
Are you talking about at major tournaments and the high tables of tournament X-wing? At the moment, I don't think so. Let's just go with the assumption that PTL Arc Dodgers might become quite scarce and the meta does shift a bit (and that might be a debatable point). If that happens, then the PS 8 or better requirement really drops. There are a lot more ships that open up for options of viability. The next powerful build in the meta is the Contracted Scout or U-boat list. The problem here is that they are also PS 3. The best way to take these guys down is to kill them fast before they can shoot. At PS 3, you will be doing simultaneous fire. So, you won't really be stopping them. I say that until U-boats are not so common, you will not find a place for a PS 3 ship at tournaments.
What about besides tournaments? Oh, yeah, you can make lots of lists that could really use him! Epic is where he probably shines the best. Those critical hits on Epic are so nasty. Colzet can really swing the game around for you. I think he's awesome.
There are other B-list games where he would be good at, as well. As long as it isn't tournament level, you can make effective lists and have fun with him. Missions could also work if there are some key ships you need to destroy or take down.

I went for damage with the two Defenders since that's the role they would have to play. TIE/D and Ion. I've had too many TIEs explode suddenly in a single round though to believe survivability of Colzet is very high... plus you for every blinded pilot and direct hit critical there are so many that will have so little impact that you can't really depend on Colzet's ability being stellar every game.
Basically, whether Colzet has a place comes down to this: Can you run table with your other 77 points? Colzet is not going to do a lot of damage and his ability, while good, is rather random.
With Palpatine, he seems to be an OK ship. You can add Wampa in just to make the combo more reliable.
since you randomly pick the card to flip i hate him. I went through a phase where i tried to use him for 3-4 games, and i kept flipping the dumbest crits ever every turn. Take a stress! so youre up to what 15 stress now? (hera crew...). Cant be assigned straights! oh wait youre facing a rock anyway...
Not once did i flip over a card that actually did something. Not a single bloody time.
I run this list for fun some.
You may roll additional attack dice equal to your agility value, to a maximum of 3 additional dice.
If you equip a upgrade, its squad point cost is reduced by 4 (to a minimum of 0).

Colzet flips one random face down assigned damage card face up. I'll show you the dark side works when the target suffers a critical damage and then the damage card on the condition card is dealt. I wouldn't think Colzet's ability will trigger Ren's condition. Or am I missing something?
Colzet is a cool pilot and I found him particularly useful with FCS against the Ghost in a recent game. He's a B pilot that your opponent will probably ignore... at first. ![]()

I think he means assigning them blinded pilot, then flipping it back up, way to neuter a single ship like say...Dengar :3
If I recall correctly I faced a Vader/Colzet/Wampa/PalpShuttle list at Yavin.
Similar to what I used --> Decimator + Colzet + Wampa = went 3/3 in Hoth Open with that.
I ran the following at a tournament earlier this year and it was quite strong:
Chiraneau (Veteran Instincts, Palpatine, Engine Upgrade)
Colzet (x1 title, Advanced Targeting Computer)
Wampa (Hull Upgrade)
100 points
I ran him as filler last week alongside a pair of defenders, one of each flavor. He worked great in that game, but when your tractor beam is lowering the agility of the target for everyone else most ships would do well.
I've had a lot of fun with Colzet in the past. He is a great spotter for Vessery but he is in a rough spot right now due to the ship he flies around in.
After having Vader disappear in a single round of fire the last two games I've played with him, I have very little faith in the Advanced chassis.
Colzet is still one of favorite niche pilots but hopefully the meta opens up a bit where guys like him can spread their wings.

This. Ren assigns a face up blinded pilot during the initial engagement and prevents them from firing which flips it face down. Then since he fired using ATC and so didn't spend his target lock Colzet flips blinded pilot face up again during the end phase. Rinse, repeat. As long as Colzet is anywhere in range 3 of them you've now basically completely taken one of their ships out of the game as anything other than a blocker and can concentrate on the rest of their list. Not that great against swarms but against a 2-3 ships list it's pretty nasty. Eventually you'll pile on some additional damage and not be able to guarantee you flip the blinded pilot but by that point the game should be all but over.
The biggest issues are the advanced being a mediocre ship to begin with and needing to land that initial crit (so largely useless against palp aces)

You're never going to get a damage card onto a Palp Acewing ship in the first place, especially when you've wasted a good ~25 points (forgot exactly how much be costs) of your list on something that can't do anything other than an enhanced version of Saboteur.
In 100 point play, the Empire just doesn't have enough mechanics that get damage in under shields to make him useful. And by the time you knock off someone's shields, you'd rather just have more punch with ATC to deal automatic crits. But he might be good against some ships with low shields and a lot of hull like the Shadow Caster.
Colzet is fun. If you want to use his ability every turn, you probably want a swarm with him to keep pushing cards through. As a potential threat on the board he's great without the swarm.
I had great success with colzet this year. I won two store champs and went 6-3 at the Hoth Open with this
RAC + emperor + rebel captive + Expose
Wampa
Colzet + accuracy corrector + tie X1 title
I've had some amazing games with Colzet. I'm not sure he's all that useful competitively, but back when then Raider dropped, I was running a 4x Advanced list including him that was doing disgustingly well. I ran him with AC so he always had his action free for target locks, and still put out consistent hits. I found FCS and ATC to be counterproductive with him (FCS is still relying on you having your target in arc, and ATC doesn't mesh well with the pilot skill given arc dodging).
Paired with 3x AC Tempests toting Cluster Missiles, he was hilariously effective against a lot of the large ships in the local meta at the time. Paired with Wampa, he was shockingly good against low hull aces (a fair few Corran and Whisper targets bit the dust on a turned over direct hit beneath full shields.
Competitively, however, you're verging on Omega Leader points for something with a neat trick, but not much reliable damage. Hell, you're a point off a pair of APs, which would probably have more utility. In a casual game (and certainly a 150+ point game) it's well worth breaking him out.
colzet FCS x/1 works well leading 3x tempest squadron with x/1 accuracy correctors, cluster missiles and guidance chips for 98 points there is still a bid in there, but its not so important, the other advanced strip shield like they were last years news and then he just keeps spending those target locks, or you could go for ATC and still use the target lock at the end of turn if you wish
