The Replacements

By BCooper85, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've got a local tournament tomorrow and thinking of something fluffy after exclusively using Dash for what seems like eons.

'The Replacements'

Corran with FCS, PtL and R2-D2

Red Sqd Vet with Targeting Astro and IA x 2

The name comes from the fact both these ships were at some point replacements for my fave ship, the T-65.

Any thoughts?

In this list, Corran is too much the obvious target, and going to be easy to burn when he's focused on. With Corran and Dash, your opponent has to make choices, and then you can easily run one ship away while the other does work -- the RSVs don't fill this roll. IMO, Corran can only be paired with a ship using a turret, otherwise you spend too long running away without shots.

Consider building up Miranda, maybe with C-3P0, or Rec Spec, or whatever crew the kids are using these days (Dash for the laughs? No, probably not). TLT is a must on her, and you'll regret not taking Advanced SLAM. If you feel you've got the points, Advanced SLAM and a Connor Net will make your opponents sweat.

Then, if you've got the room, season with a cheaper third ship. If I have a moment, I'll fool around with a quick build.

Cheers pal, if the list changed though I'd rather be keeping the T-70's!

Oh, I assumed you'd want Corran, as he's usually Dash's dance partner, at least, pre-VCX.

Speaking of, do you have a Ghost? You could pair this VCX with your T-70s, might give them some room to work:

Chopper
Accuracy Corrector
Autoblaster Turret

Hera

-- The AC and ABT are a vicious combo that makes your enemy pay for getting into range one of you. If they're a weaker ship/ace, it can be 100% lethal. Hera lets you not worry about red maneuvers, including the amazing 5k.

Now, I'd normally suggest dropping Adaptability on your T-70s (they have an EPT, why not use it?), but having all three ships at PS4 gives you a full range of options when moving them.

There's one point for flavor, which leaves some options:
1. Swap AC for Fire Control System. Can still help ABT, potentially, and is actually useful for 4-5 dice primary attacks.
2. Change nothing, add Zeb crew. It's high risk/high reward, but getting aces to bump you in arc and THEN nuking them with the AC & ABT is awesome. But, again, high risk, because anyone bumping in your arc can potentially shoot you, too.

It does fly VERY differently than you're used to (none of these ships mirror Dash or Corran), and it's perma-low on the PS side, but, if you're looking for a buddy with your T-70s, a VCX can bring a world of hurt.

I do have a Ghost and have not flown it once (it's even magnetised) so now could be the time!

I forgot to mention that I'm using crack shot on the X's so going with your list I'd either have to drop Hera or drop the ship down to a Lothal Rebel.

Hey man. Long time no see.

I don't think I have looked at xwing for a few months so my advice is probably not worth much... but I agree with ArbitaryNerd I was flying a Chopper Ghost with two Red Sqd Vets like you have above and was enjoying it. Is it going to make the meta quake? probably not but its fun, dishes out some pain and gives your opponent some choices.

I prefer FCS on the Ghost as it benefits your front gun more personally.

With Crackshot being your consideration, absolutely drop down to Lothal -- you'll trigger Hera WAY more than Chopper's Pilot Ability anyways. Also, since you're not motivated to bump as much as you were with Chopper, I'd upgrade AC to FCS (though AC is ALWAYS dangerous against certain lists).

This still leaves you with two points left over. You don't really benefit from a bid, so consider:

1. Add Chopper crew! He's free, and mostly dangerous, but who knows, maybe you NEED an action once or twice.

2. Han Solo, if you have him. There's synergy with FCS, though I've never personally pulled it off.
3. Dash Rendar. This time, it's actually, potentially, useful -- do a craaaazy 5k and wind up on a rock? Oh well, you weren't taking actions anyways, can hopefully afford the ding, and now you can still shoot in the Combat Phase!

I ended up using the 2 Red Squadron X's but with Cool Hand instead of Crack Shot for the talon roll with a focus and TL and a Lothal Rebel with Hera, Zeb, FCS and Dorsal Turret.

Went 2 and 2 with the games I lost being very close. Overall really pleased with how I did, thanks for the suggestions guys!
