Hello friends,

I always wanted a gaming table and even more so when X-Wing came out. So I used an already existing table and added a slighly larger plate (92x92cm/3x3feet spacemat with a 5cm/2inches black frame frame) on top, but I was never really satisfied with it.

So with Armada on the shelf I decided I should give it another try: This time I build a whole new table with a measurement of 104x196cm/3'5''x6'5'' and LED-lit tabletop (plus some drawers to store all those starfighters and capital ships). It's nearly finished now and the only thing missing is the glassplate on top of the table.

So the LEDs are under the playmat yes? What's the playmat surface that allows the light to filter through, vinyl?

The LEDs are actually on the side: The playmat itself lies on top of an acrylic plate which is edgelit by the LEDs. The playmat is a backlit-foil, but I'm not exactly sure what those are made of. I doubt it's vinyl, more some kind of polyester.

I did the first concept drawings last year in october/november. As I didn't have any real experience with building furniture like that, it took me quite some time to figure out some of the details like which LEDs to use, where to get all the raw materials and which materials I need at all. The building-process itself took me about 100-120 hours - including all the "I should better have done this different..."-moments. But I'm no carpenter, so someone with experience in building furniture could probably do that lot faster or get a better result with less money spent.
