Hurry up, Barnes and Noble!

By Lord Ashram, in Star Wars: Armada

Got several hundred dollars gift cards... They just need to get the **** new waves online!:(

Arggghghghghghghghghhhhhhfghh!!!!!

I didn't know Barnes and Noble sold Armada

I was shocked to see that they do. Actually shocked at how many games their store had, period.

Doesn't FFG have some thing going on where big online dealers (B&N, Amazon, etc) are getting this stuff later than say local comic stores? And aren't they supposed to get less as well?

I feel like I remember reading an article about that by FFG. Personally, I get what they're doing. Trying to help out the local business owner. It's a cool sentiment, unless you don't have a local store and rely on online retailers to get your fix, then it just comes off as inconvenient.

And yeah, I know Miniature Market has the new waves already, but I don't get free shipping with them unless I give them a c-note. Again: it's just inconvenient, and for a game (that at least locally here) has struggled to catch on (the local store stopped carrying it despite me buying from them) there needs to be more thought put into enticing new players other than "make it inconvenient."

Considering my primary source for Armada is Amazon, I am saddened that they have zero stock yet on the new stuff.

Barnes and Noble is where I actually first bought into Armada. Just the core set, though, because everything else was XWing...

What's a Barnes and Noble ?

( :D )

I recently noticed that my local B&N started to stock not only Armada core set, but expansions as well.

Interesting!

I wonder if Bookstores will attempt to move into the gaming space, seeing as book sales have steadily declined? I bet there is a significant overlap between a person that likes to buy/browse books and a person that would be interested in gaming.

There definetely is.

Serious games are starting to become very mainstream. Games like Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, and Munchkin are really opening up the group of people that play games. It used to be a pretty small, "nerdy" group, but I think that's changing, and major retailers are noticing. Even Target carries all of those games I mentioned, plus X Wing.

In Canada there is no Target and Walmart hasn't gotten the memo. Bookstores, especially small and medium independent operations, are probably perfectly placed especially since many of them are already around university campuses.

... But Chapters only sells X-Wing, and only online... They stopped it as floor stock last year (back when it was Core Set + 2 expansions only, the HWK and the Z-95)...

Walmart here doesn't sell a lot. They are getting a little better, but not at fast as Target did.

But if I'm going to pay full MSRP, I'd rather do it at a FLGS if I can. Target is nice for the accessibility of more casual crowds, though.
